Wow, what a neat little ride. You have done a fabulous job Henry! You can tell so much thought has gone in to it, as it really does look like a comfortable 'home away from home'. Well done 👍
I live out of a van. A bucket with two sets of plastic bags, a urinal, and wet wipes and sponge bath, along with weekly or monthly gym shower or rental shower is how I do it. I actually prefer a buckets height over a traditional toilet now lol.
@@michalob21 Sounds very simple, yet very effective! I can picture it. I lived for a time in an old travel trailer on some land I was hoping to develop. I had no electricity, no running water, but there was a septic system installed. I hauled water in by hand in 5 gallon jugs. I sponge bathed sometimes at home by heating water on my stove and using it sparingly in the shower. Mostly I showered like you said, at a gym where I had membership. It's all possible! Now where I live even though we have a toilet and septic tank, we are getting ready to build two composting toilets. It seems so wasteful to use precious water for bathroom needs when it can be reduced so much by using buckets or composting toilets which work just fine! Hope you are loving your van life.
Brilliant small van conversion on a budget! One thing I was wondering about - a fume exhaust outlet for your diesel heater - I can't imagine not needing one in such a confined space, carbon monoxide alarm not withstanding - safety first and all that.
Nice job! Very simple.Just bought an NV 200 and looking for lots of ideas to be simple and very flexible. My most important thing for me to have along is my bike, likely my electric bike. Also a minimal toilet. It looks like designing the power and electronics is the biggest deal and not my expertise. Thanks for sharing and your delivery was enthusiastic and loads of fun!
I love your van build! Thanks for the tour! I’m in the USA and the Ram ProMaster City is pretty much the same van, which is what I bought a couple of years ago and made it into a micro camper. I don’t have any electricity and didn’t insulate and put walls or a ceiling in (yet?). I also haven’t gotten out much in it yet as I am dealing with a health situation. I do plan to camp more this winter and take a road trip this spring or summer. Thanks for the inspiration!!
The exact same van is on the roads with different brand names :Fiat Doblo, Opel Combo, Vauxhall Combo and Ram ProMaster City, most are diesel versions either 1.3 Liter or 1.6Liter and in the US it's more bigger size petrol engines with mainly automatic gearboxes boxes.
Rebulding currently my Little Van, Like you I didn't used isolation and electricity,it was more basic, Now I put a electrical system in,also basic, but modular and,the isolation part Don't think if it's useful for my needs
Great build. Suggestions Fan can be held below lens to keep midges away. If you are going to put up netting to keep midges out, mosquito netting does not work the holes are too big You need midge netting A midge net that covers the head Rubber bands for shirt sleeves to keep them out And as you will be going off the beaten track an emergency whistle and if thumb stick. Only Suggestions I use my yeti as a micro camper nothing as luxurious as you have, but it serves the purpose My build does keep all my gear out of sight, which is obviously most important
As you said in the video get it built and then alter things later. At least it's functional for what you want at the moment and does the job. Supprised you didn't have a mini fridge, but i guess that's to follow. Well done anyway.
Henry have you considered using packing cubes for your overhead locker it will make it easier to organise and things wont get lost in the corners, enjoy it.
I want my Dwoobleoo (as my 5 year old used to call it ) back. Up to about 10 year ago I had1 ! Great advice get it liveable and get out and enjoy it !! Same advice I give to any1 buying a home ! as you said there is always twigs and changes to be made. Love what you have done with it so far !! Wishing you many more happy miles and hours with the blue jay.
Very suitable. I also have the same project next spring. Peugeot partner van 2015, 1.5 diesel, and some of the wood materials for the back compartment have already been purchased. I was very inspired by your great video. I subscribed to your channel so will have to research more. Cheers to a free life, my friend. ✌
Hi mate! Love the van build. I’d be really interested to hear how you created your electric system? I never knew that all your stuff good be powered from a Jackery in that way
doing my doblo out over winter for photography trips , but mine a shorter wheel base but its ok for me. as long as it does the job , that's all we country lads need
I was watching your videos of how you build your van last week. I thought it would be lovely to have a full Tour of the van. A week latet, here it is. Nice.
Rather than the sink you have, look for a small camper van/Touring Caravan sink and cooker, the tap folds down and they have a hinged lid for both sink and cooker. As you can know, space is at a premium though there’s a little more space than you have, having this instead means you don’t lose the counter top where your sink is and can then use it as a table. One idea that I’ve seen on Thomas Heaton’s van is where he has his bag etc, he built a storage compartment in the back but I think all his floor is raised as his van his a bit bigger than yours but it’s something to think about, he opens his back door and can slide his bag out and it doesn’t take up space in the living compartment, P.S. he does have a door that drops down when open with lock on it too. I’m so jealous, I’d love a camper but neither have the funds or would be able to fit one out due to my disabilities but my brother has just bought a new, or nearly new Citroen Berlingo I think they’re called, which he has just built a bed with storage room underneath which he uses for fishing, just on one or two night trips with an awning that fits onto the back doors, something else you could consider if staying in the same spot for a few nights, campsite probably best though for obvious reasons.
Lovely little build. I recently got an SSE doblo too and about to start converting. I can confirm the rear LED lights I have left on over night by mistake a couple of times and the battery has been fine! Leisure battery will still be going in tho. What diesel heater have you got looks nice and small. Cheers
Nice to see the almost finished video of your van mate, i remember the video from when you first got the blue jay its been great to see what you have managed to do.....perfect job
Nice little build. I'm doing one very comparable. it's called the RAM ProMaster City in North America but I definitely would not add all that wood is. all it does is adds weight and kills gas mileage. I have found a small sink burner combo with tempered glass top for my countertop it knocks out two birds, one stone, also consider better ventilation. you do not want humidity to build up and start getting into the corners of metal as it starts to rust, but aside from that, Nice!
Awesome build, my only concern is where you put the carbon monoxide detector, it should be mounted BELOW your normal head level when sleeping...... otherwise, you may be dead before the alarm goes off.....
Love the Blue Jay Henry, it's got your character written all over it. Looking forward to see you in it in depth of winter, it will be quality wild camping in remotest Scotland, that would be a good test. Maybe some snow tires on the front. Noticed you have a GB badge on rear, are you planing a trip away?
I have an ex post office van 2010 i paid to have a basic conversation at the end of last summer, looking forward to getting out and about this spring. Have just bought myself an EcoFlow as I don't have a leisure battery. Love the hat by the way.
You’ve certainly made the best use of available space Henry and getting your power solution right from the beginning will be a massive benefit to you. Just seen your Instagram story with your heater running and was wondering how many hours will your heater run for with its own diesel tank you’ve hooked up to?
Hi Henry - you are the man with the van. It's the hideaway, garden shed, on wheels. Looks great, Henry. I've thought of a few things. Change of clothes in the van so you can change if you get soaked, without sitting around in wet gear. Some quick snacks in the van that don't perish as an emergency supply (Tunnock's Tea Cakes, Caramel Wafers, cans of Irn-Bru, crisps, Babybel cheeses, crispbread, etc.), anything that isn't bulky and that has good longevity. It's always handy. How would you charge up your battery pack if you're on a long trip, in winter where light levels can be low? Is there sufficient ventilation in your van for you to safely sleep? What happens to your waste water? Happy travels, Henry.
Hi Henry, what a smashing job you have done the van looks great and will get you a much better sleep now so you can get up at the crack of dawn to do some more of those Wainrights. Hopefully photographing many more great sunrises and sunsets. Happy travels mate 😁👍

Hey Henry, love the video you’ve gave me some ideas I got a LWB EX- British Gas van and doing a little micro build with my partner. Do you mind saying how much you spent after the van? On all the materials/electrics etc? Just as a rough guide? Also did you find where the LED lights wires were connected to? My ones in the cab work, but the ones in the rear of the van don’t switch on!
Nice doblò, usually you find video on crazy expensive self made camper. Yours its a perfect balance between functionality and semplicity. Anyway just curios about how you builded the "guardarobe". Where did you insert the screws to fix it?
So jealous. You've done a wonderful job. Professional. I could live in that full time. How do you stay so skinny?? Tea cakes, Irn bru, Monster Munch. You're missing a deep fat fryer in there, then you'd have deep fried Mars Bars too, making you a fully fledged Jock. Jockhickular vehicular dining.
Thanks Henry for sharing your work on the van..... great job & well done...I was wondering about insurance & licensing of the van ??.... cheers from Australia 😀
Since my body is not exactly short, a question pops into my mind: What is the length of the bed? I have an idea of building a mini-van just like this, but I wouldn't want to end up shriveled in the bed because there is no room for my legs.
Great video Henry! Nice to see a final walk thru of all the features. I hope to do the same thing some day - so you've inspired me. But you didn't mention "The Blue Jay" and how she got her name? As a former Toronto dweller - but now living and shooting in Nova Scotia - at least you're backing the correct ball team! Keep up the good work and videos. Happy shooting mate! Cheers.

Watching "Nomadland" on tv right now. Oscar-winning movie about van life. Get it downloaded for your next trip

they have their own inlet and outlet, no fumes from combustion gets inside the living space at all when installed properly....

Suggestions
Fan can be held below lens to keep midges away.
If you are going to put up netting to keep midges out, mosquito netting does not work the holes are too big
You need midge netting
A midge net that covers the head
Rubber bands for shirt sleeves to keep them out
And as you will be going off the beaten track an emergency whistle and if thumb stick.
Only Suggestions
I use my yeti as a micro camper nothing as luxurious as you have, but it serves the purpose
My build does keep all my gear out of sight, which is obviously most important
