on day 7 the artillery would have been really good if he saw that he could trap your tank. there were infantry in place for a trap on that tank in the north
First attack w/ infantry onto infantry on city w/o com tower is 38%-44%. Assuming max luck, the second attack with a different healthy infantry is 45-52%. Even with perfect luck, they live with 4% health. With 1 com tower under the same conditions, it's 42-48%, followed by 49-57%, which is a little worse than a coinflip (if I've done the math correctly)
Yep, with only Infantry, you can't two-shot an Infantry on a comtower without a comtower of your own. If you do have one, the chances are as follows: You have a 1/7 chance at 42%, which fails every time, a 1/7 chance at 43%, which succeeds with a perfect second shot (1/9 chance), a 1/7 chance at 44%, which succeeds 2/9 of the time, a 1/7 chance at 45%, which succeeds 3/9 of the time, a 1/7 chance at 46%, which succeeds 4/9 of the time, a 1/7 chance at 47%, which succeeds 5/9 of the time, and a 1/7 chance at 48%, which succeeds 6/9 of the time. Putting it all together, you have a 21/63 chance at two-shotting an enemy Infantry on a property with your own Infantry and a comtower, or one out of three.
Regarding the FTA, the reason why most of the time is a extra infantry is to make so that player 2 is half a turn ahead of player 1, and funnly enough, in most 2-player games, the player 1 always has a half-point of advantage, so hey, maybe we really figured FTA after all That's something I learned in one of Go7 streams
This was a particularly awesome match just because of the number of amazing plays on both sides. I feel like it's more entertaining than something like incugarch vs go7 because you expect genius giga brain moves from those two, but even with strong players like you and your opponent, you don't expect them to play at the level seen in this particular match.

You 180e'd his Winning position to Faceplanting directly into the pavement with that Urban Blight +Tank play. 90% Firepower boosted Tank FTW Gave 0 ducks about his tank on your base, so that tank accomplished nothing but getting sacked. This is definitely the play of the game and I imagine that wasn't intentional, but if it was, you would be so proud of yourself! Well played.

I mean I feel pretty compelled to note that Chess also knows very well that it's better to play first than second, which is why under tournament conditions each player plays 2 games against each other player, once as White and once as Black. (There's only one map in Chess, mind, unless you're enough of a madlad to play Fischer-Random/'960' for the less problematic name, so the opening book goes on through about 'day' 15-20...)
He definitely misspoke. He means that AWBW tries to fix the first turn advantage by giving player 2 a slight material bonus before turn 1. Though there's really no way to do this with Chess without fundamentally changing the game.

13:10 for a CO with no other bonuses on mountains (including Kindle), mountain vs kindle on property is 40:0 vs 30:40 in terms of defense : offense, so not sure I agree about that. You'd have to think 10% defense is better than 40% offense.
I think its the aAlpha strike advantage. You reduce there HP by i think 3, suddenly they are doing 30% less damage, so they only deal 10% extra damage total, which is then lowered by your +40% defence down to a similar amount of damage. Maths is very wonky, but i think thats thebidea

Also the advantage of going first reminds me of the game I play yugioh. Going first is such an unbelievable advantage that at a certain point they decided getting the first battle phase wasn't enough and changed the rules so the first player doesn't get their draw phase on their first turn lol.
That's because power creep has allowed players to access so much of their deck that going first is sometimes enough for someone to build an unbreakable board. At least that's what I've heard since I basically gave up on Yu-Gi-Oh! around the time GX started.
I am actually in the same division as you Mangs (I go by Troll Master on AWBW) but I got knocked out in R2 because I thought my opponent won't get his ex machina next turn but he did and my entire centre collapsed. 27:05 it definitely is fun to see that. Once my opponent attacked my 1hp infantry with a 1hp copter and the copter died on the counter attack lmao Also this Dangs guy is on fire! He beat Deejus, Starflash, King Arthur and can even do maths! Can you believe it!
You played definitively better than normal. I keep focus on the city placement while watching the game. You manage the repair very better than him, but you offer him a lot of obvious delay with Urban Blight.
I just got a sudden urge to make an AI that plays Advance Wars perfectly. The game is basically just more complex chess, so I am pretty sure I could teach an AI to be god tier.
Would be interesting to see but every piece in chess basically does 100% damage to an opposition piece and takes the space. Only 1 piece is able to move per turn. This makes the best turn farbeasier to recognise. Chess uses the same map every game and does not have to worry about an economy. Not saying it is impossible, but it is far more complicated than chess. If you could develop an ai that is able to do a good early capture game on a consistent basis you will have done well.
Considering how much power and intelligence is needed to build a chess AI that can beat good chess players, I think this is not very viable as AW has a lot more variables to take into account, making it exponentially more difficult to anticipate opponents' moves. I'm not trying to discourage you, but I just think it will be a very hard task that will be nigh impossible.
@@turbo8628 You are very much correct, but I was thinking of feeding the program a lot of information from high ranking players fighting eachother and then make multiple AIs fight one another for a few hundred human years. With that method, the AIs have a baseline to improve upon. First I need to make a less resource intensive version of Advance Wars with all if the mechanics remaining. My pc wouldn't like a thousand Advance Wars running at the same time, unless they take way less resources to run.
So thanks to the Nintendo Direct I convinced my bestie to play AWBW, what are some maps for noobs where I can show him the ropes? honestly I only play the ones the game matches me on and I don't really know the maps. Also I don't know where else can I ask this
Nah, bad move. It may seem decent on paper, but Urban Blight comes in next turn, reducing 9 HP infantry to 6. Better to focus on wiping out his infantry and reduce his staying power.
at 16:21 that was a very unlucky roll from your opponent. he did 38.5% damage there and rolled not high enough to get to 40%. so this engagement is actually very likely to go 7-6 the other way round
