The 2017 Chevy Corvette Z06 is a crazy sports car with incredible performance numbers -- but is it a supercar? Today I'm reviewing a Corvette Z06, and I'm going to show you all the cool features of the Z06 -- and I'll tell you whether I think the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a supercar.

The C7 corvette was designed by the same guy who designed the Pontiac Aztek, and it shows. How that guy is still getting work I have no idea. A 6 for styling is very generous IMO. The C5 and C6 models looked good, the C7 looks like a constipated brick.
Coming from a c7 Z06 owner I completely agree with Doug's score. Unless you know what you're looking at, it is just a regular Corvette

With the C8 just months away from hitting the streets for a starting price point of $60K makes this video completely irrelevant.

Corevette owner here: you can open the rear lift gate by pressing a button just above the license plate. The driver can take over the passenger air control from the center stack by pushing Sync which slaves it to theirs.

Has anyone actually done the science on whether or not Corvettes perform worse with door handles stuck on?
And more important.
They still work after the car has rolled.
No door handle has been knocked off if the car flips over in a crash so people can open from the outside.
They can make manually operated door handles that sit flush with the body like that. They could make it look basically exactly the same but manually operated. It could potentially be equally aerodynamic, lighter, and cheaper to produce
I hate how biased this video is. If this was a Ferrari Doug would be drooling over this, but because it's a Chevy, it always comes with that stigma. Guarantee you if there was a Ferrari with doors that you push a button to open and close, and the badge right on the info center, Doug would be like "Wow how neat is that, such a super cool thing to do to add the horsepower." But since it's not a Mercedes it will automatically be 10 points less on the Doug score.
Edit: Bet you if Chevy did what Lamborghini did and put the numbers of which order the pistons fired off when the car started, Doug would call it "unnecessary"

He simply just points out some of the flaws of the car, but he likes it for what it is,

This is why I literally have NEVER watched even one Doug score. Why in the hell would I care about that. He just got through explaining everything about the vehicle. I'm intelligent enough to know where it stands. I don't care what some nancy rates his favorite vehicles. I barely ever watch him drive the car either.

Did anybody else notice that this car's best fuel consumption average was almost 27 mpg? I'm assuming with eco mode activated and keeping your foot out of it. Dude, seriously. That's pretty damn impressive for a 650 HP sports car.
The ZO6 uses 4 cylinders when cruising on the highway in eco mode.💯
my dad's '92 C4 got upwards of 50 mpg in sixth gear on the highway. 300-ish hp, but no cylinder deactivation

Worth noting that the horsepower and torque plaque on the interior is a nod to the plaques in the C3 that displayed horsepower, torque, cubic inches, and the compression ratio. It’s a heritage thing and not just a gimmick.
A gimmick that's repeated over and over does not make for a heritage that is worth preserving.

what happens if you rent your car out via Tauro and the one lending it gets into a speeding ticket, or worse, uses it for drug running, crashes it, etc? You might be able to proof your innocence but I can’t imagine the legal battle will be pleasant, nor the misery trying to get some money from the insurance.
Speeding ticket won't be a problem, you pay it and all is good. The others, well. That don't really happen that much.

As an owner of a 2017 Z06, I can tell you there is a lot wrong about this review. It handles incredibly well and corners with ease at high speeds. The performance is amazing and it is shown on his face when he actually drives it. (and it does have the same exterior trunk release as most cars, it’s just hidden a bit better, plus it’s a self closing hatch as well.) It is an amazing car with racing history that should be respected more than a 61.
People just love hating on the Z06 because it's literally a supercar but people just don't wanna admit it because their nismo is "better"

There an external button to open the rear lid. It’s on the horizontal shelf above the license plate, and just below the “VE” in Corvette.
Corvette has been making supercars since the original GrandSport back in the 60's. They are so underrated no one outside of the 50 states care about them.

Wrong. But rarity and exclusivity is part of a car being a supercar. Add to that is has to be more than the sum of its parts. The Corvette does what you expect of it, but nothing more. And when the car is compromised in all the wrong ways, that does not help either. It's not a supercar, deal with it.
It's manual... That's why the passenger seat has 2 controls. If I'm shifting, you better use the second one. You don't reach over the shifter if I'm using it

I have no idea what roads you were driving the car on, but I have a 2016 Z06 M7 in Florida, and it most definitely does not have a “harsh” ride even in sport mode. In tour mode, the car’s ride is very smooth. Pretty good combo when you consider that of all the cars Car and Driver tested in 2019, the Z06 was numero uno on the skid pad, @ 1.19 g’s, and in braking. And yes, that included the Ferraris, McLarens, and Porsche’s and the like. Most certainly it is not “behind the supercars in handling.” Compare it’s Nurburgring time of 7:13 (7:10 with 100 octane tune) to so-called supercars, and you’ll find it’s right up there with the best of them. It is quite capable of being purely docile if you like around town, or reverting to pure, unadulterated, animalistic fury in an instant. Supercar? If you learn the car and how to properly drive it it is. I could absolutely convince you of an affirmative answer in less than 5 seconds with just a relatively short straight followed by a tight s curve. You do have to know how to drive the car properly, however. Just sayin.’ Maybe prior renters beat your example to a pulp. Your review is inaccurate in numerous respects, and reflects an obvious bias rather than objectivity. Sad effort.
Touchscreen calibration isn't "quirky," it's something 99% of touchscreens can do, including every phone you've ever owned. It's to reset it if it doesn't sense your finger input in the right place

I absolutely love this car, it looks amazing, it performs great, it has an ok price, it's very roomy on the trunk. Just perfection here! This is one of those cars that you can't help but just love and smile at it's simplicity, it's a fun car =)

FYI, the C5 did not have the same door handle "gimmick" that this and the C6 have- it is a completely normal, tactile pull-handle.
It's not a gimmick. It's one less thing sticking out and creating drag.
Couple things
-Hes reviewing the “base” Z06. No carbon fiber, colored hood scoop, or aero package/perf package.
-There actually is a way to open the trunk from the outside. Theres a button under the lip where license plate is. Cmon Doug

I'm sure the owner of that Z06 you rented is going to be SUPER stoked you brought it out to some dusty unpaved field to film this in. If he's not perturbed by that, then he will certainly find himself chuckling when he watches you lay the roof on that presumably fine sand/gravel.

There are some definitions that are not subjective. The most important two things are these. It has to be exclusive and rare, and it has to be more than the sum of its parts. You can walk straight across LA on Corvette roof tops and you know exactly what you get in one without a lot of surprise.
This car is amazing.
Doug, the competition markings on the seats you seemed to be disappointed with (at 6:40) are not referring to the car in general, but rather specific optional "Competition Sport Bucket Seats" designed by Chevrolet engineers to provide a "secure fit and bolstering for high g-cornering" which are built on high quality magnesium frames. The standard seat has no such markings.
Chevy was not trying to be pretentious and label the overall car as a competitive machine (although they sure have every right to), they simply wanted to provide a distinctive marking for the optional equipment as is fairly commonplace today and something most consumers appreciate.
Regarding its "Supercar" status...If it wore a Ferrari badge, cost $300k, spent a third of its life in the shop, added a couple of zero's to the cost of each annual service and ended up with less impressive performance numbers than the Z06's 0 to 60 in 2.95 seconds and 202 MPH top end, no one would have a problem in the world calling it a supercar.
It's a free country and anyone can say my Z06 is not a "Supercar", but they are just going to have to say it from behind me.

Do most Corvette Z06 consumers really need and/or appreciate to be reminded of the name of the optional equipment in their car on a daily basis?
Anyone with a set of eyes can see that those are special seats (and I'm sure they're great) - that text just makes it look cheesy in the same way a glued-on "Turbo" emblem on a Kia would.

Doug you should stick to driving your Prius. The Z06 is amazing considering the price. I will put my C7 Z06 up against any super car under 200k. Its not just good it is a super car. The calibration is so when you touch the screen it is registering the touch where it needs to. Sometimes screens like that will become off a little if you remember some old touch screen units like a smart board. Those needed to be calibrated the same exact way
The top model Corvette has been a supercar since the C6 ZR1.
Also, I learned from Jay Leno's Garage that the C7 was actually designed to be a targa-top model, no matter the variant, so the structure of the top was designed to meet safety standards without the top in place.

777jones sometimes it may happen (maybe when you install new screen) that you touch somewhere but it shows somewhere else so you can calibrate screen so it works properly
The fact that you have to calibrate it is pretty sad. Touchscreens haven't needed that in over a decade. Cheap ass GM
The newer type of touchscreen (capacitive) doesn't work if your fingers are cold, wet, or you're wearing gloves. Resistive touchscreen has lower sensitivity, transmits less light, but it's cheap and only needs pressure, not capacitance. .
Doug is probably just way too young (being 28) to know that old monitors were calibrated this way, and is nothing so "whack-a-mole" weird.

Fills the gap between normal sports cars and Supercars. But it still doesn’t have the quality that most sports cars have anyways because all the development and costs goes into the engine.

C6 zo6 is aluminum frame and carbon fiber panels maybe 2 cars besides the corvette can do 200 mph stock.

@4:14 Yes, you can open the truck another way besides the key fob or interior button. That fob has a hidden key which can unlock the trunk just to the right of the license plate.

Yeah got a nice FAT ticket in AZ when I was there, you can go 45mph in Yosemite, but not in any state parks in AZ, yet, great road conditions in most scenic areas off season, so, not really about "safety" it's the whole artificially low speed limits + to collect n fundraise. Same thing in NV, should be 100mph limits, but nope, that would make sense, so I won't drive through NV again (snooze fest!). Oh! and they had those stupid speed cameras EVERYWHERE in AZ when I was there, and outside of Scottsdale, just a lot of angry people, maybe it's the heat, but it was clearly the least enjoyable state I've ever visited. Just the overall attitude of about 99% of the people there, I'd only live there if it was free or some sort of gov't subsidies like they get in Alaska.

May 2023 I picked up a 2016 Z06, 3LZ, A8, Convertible in Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic. I came from a C4 ZR-1 and a 2011 CTS-V, so I know about performance, but God the Z06 is phenomenal. I appreciate what GM has done with the C8 but I just love the looks of the C7 better. Thanks for the video!

From what I have read the grand sport is one of the best sports cars ever. Z06 is overkill for on the street use and it tries to kill you. Just from what I have read on a bunch of different articles and watched in videos no personal experience I can’t afford these cars yet lol I personally like how the grand sport looks better than the others

In addition to the button above the license plate, there is a key hole you can stick the slide out key from the key fob so you can get into the car in case the battery dies. It's easy to miss, I had to look it up on mine.

That touch screen calibration system means that GM cut corners a bit and used a resistive touch screen rather than a capacitive one. Then again if you're a true driving enthusiast and wear gloves that would be a plus.
