i can't even trust people when i stay home. people are fucked mostly
@21stcenturyshowgirl are you single - if yes - can I please marry you?
There was a English guy who tried it on with the bank story at Suvarnabhumi airport, with bank statements and everything. He had a bandage around his foot said he needed money to get home because he was in a lot of pain. I told him to wait a bit, I went to the pharmacy and brought a box of paracetamol. When I returned his face was a picture. He thought I was going to get some money. He told me to f off : )
His response was who he really was.
😅😂
Back home when anyone asks me for money, I say get a job.
My advice if you're at an airport. Wear a monoclonal and a waistcoat. That shows your very Rich and intelligent and the thieves will be very subservient towards you.
I saw that guy! I just said "go home!" Nothing worse than people from developed countries begging in less developed poorer countries.
Shakespeare had it right - "Neither a borrower nor a lender be"
Yep, exactly.
On that basis nobody would ever have a mortgage or credit cards!!
Don’t lend any money to strangers!
Even strangers with a puppy and sweets?😂
Its not lend they want you will never get it back.
@@danielclark863 only if they have a panel van with a sliding side door!😏
Especially attractive strangers 👍
Great video Eddie!!
Listen lm just waiting on my wages to come through you couldn’t lend me a tenner could you?
A good "rule of thumb" is, if they approach you first, question them much more than, if you approach them.
From living in Vietnam for 8 years and travelling around S-E asia, my experience made me realize that the Brits are the least trustworthy and trusting.
😁🤣😂
Are you a britt!?
Spot on. With other travellers you meet it's simply. "Sorry, I haven't got it". If using debit or credit cards abroad, make sure they are your No.2 account. What I mean is, your main funds are stored in account No.1 and you only transfer money from No.1 account to a debit card (not credit card) linked to No.2 account.
Good point
Thanks for that idea mate. 👍
I never get into any van with blacked out windows until I see the candy, I'm not an idiot 🤣
And the puppies! Got to have the puppies!😂😂😂😂
I have even had a so-called pal die, so he need not pay me back £15! ☺️
On the flip side, not everyone is untrustworthy. Just for balance and even now just a few weeks after I am still grateful to the three Thai individuals on the Bangkok Blue Line who all jumped up to alert me that I had left my wallet on the seat I was sat in as the train pulled into Sukhumvit. A few seconds later and I would have left the train and see it set off with my wallet, cash and several cards with it. Always keep your wits about you, but don't become paranoid has always been my advice. In general, no matter what country you are in most people are generally honest and have the same standards you have.
Good advice. 20yrs travel Asia. Rarely had a problem using a similar mindset. Sometimes u can be tired or not well.
Try to keep your guard up.
If they get angry, intimidating etc it proves they had bad intentions showing their true colours.
I had my wallet stolen by a small group of Romanians in the Olala cafe opp the Blackwood Hotel in Soi 7 Pattaya, they were real professionals, good looking scantly clad girl, 2 chatty friendly guys , one guy was gushing complements about my polo shirt and hair style ( I am 68 ! ). The wallet was in a zipped shoulder bag which I had on , there was a lot of hand shaking and hi fives, the girl was charming , asking questions about London / UK , I chatted with them for a few minutes , was very polite and respectful towards them , after a few minutes I asked for bill ..... no wallet ...... lessons I learnt: only have a small amount of cash on you when out, don’t carry more than one payment/credit card, don’t put your room card in your wallet and be careful of good looking girls and guys who are far too friendly towards you for no reason.
Wow, my FAVORITE restaurant, in pattaya, never can tell!
Thanks for your info
Great advice man I thought credit cards in my shoulder bag more safer then in hotel room but not really
It might not have been the gypsies. You may have misplaced your wallet on your own.
@@KC-in9px Hi , not sure what Gypsies have to do with it ? Are you implying that everyone from Romania is a Gypsy?
Very good advice Eddie. Never let anyone take you off your path. dont trust strange taxis, unmarked vehicles. dont follow someone to an establishment. one small backpack for me and a belly band for valuables.
Steady Eddie, on the 7:03 you are literally talking about my experience in Barcelona back in 2021, there was a brothel I was taken to by a friend of the friendly bartender in one of the bars. There was a champagne, three women with me, even some ❄️. That night cost me around $ 2,700 and there were around $11K of pending transactions on one of the cards that never went through and luckily got declined. Horrible experience.
Bad experience. Thanks for that, mate.
Never trust anyone wearing a stoopid leather hat
😁😁😁 especially in Thailand or Laos !.
@@user-jl3ny9zj2z Don't trust *any* foreigner in Thailand, especially bloody Northerners
I spent 6 months in India
And noticed straws at the counter all different lengths
Some were an inch shorter and all irregular lengths
Turns out if someone has a drink and chews the straw
The owner cuts the chewed part off with scissors and puts straw back in glass on counter
In these places
Nothing is wasted
Not the best during the spread of Covid

OMG!
Bullshit

The taxi queue at Manila airport was so long I hopped into one of these unofficial taxis with a driver and co-driver too and regretted it straight away.
I adopted a no nonsense attitude and made it clear that I wanted to go straight to the hotel. No mucking around. I didn't quibble over the cost however.
Absolutely spot-on video. This is what used to be called "common sense", but was always extremely rare 😊.
Great Cuba story 👍 +1.
Thank you kindly!
Great vid Eddy, you are right! Only trust yourself.
Thankyou
You are spot on with this never trust ....if they come with smiles they come to hurt
Butt hurt?😮😂
It takes years to build trust in someone, so on your travels its definitely NO WAY.
Manila, exactly happened to me Eddie back in 1983, worked SE Asia, landed at airport and young well young dressed lady in white blouse blue skirt approached with a clipboard offering a taxi, i accepted, she took me to the car park and an old station wagon, I got in and another guy appeared and got in...took me to Mabini, $10 back then going price, they stopped the car and wanted $100, big money in those days, before they let me out 1 mile from the hotel, this is great advice as usual from you my friend.
Thanks, mate
It's a bit of a balancing act, trust, because if you never trust anyone for 100% of the time then you're destined to be alone forever and have nothing but the shallowest relationships with people that you know. And all because a small minority of people want to screw you over.
I think being both guarded and open is the best stance, if you get my gist.
Van driver picked me up at my pattaya hotel. Put my bag in the back. Got to airport realized I was $300 stolen from me. The driver opened my bag while I climbed into the van. Mental lapse on my part .
Good video i have heard all sorts of stories 1 guy from the uk invited a girl he just met back to his condo in manila it was his first time in the Philippines,
He was sitting out on his balcony she locked the door and robbed him,
He was out on the balcony for 6 hours without water 💧 he was shouting to security but he was so high up no-one could understand him eventually the woman in the condo next door came out on her balcony and sent the security with a locksmith to help him,
You shouldn't take a girl you just met to your condo if you have to meet a girl like that rent a cheap room for $30 for 1 night in some hotel,
Don't take her back to your main accommodation if you do make sure everything is well hidden.
Wow . Terrible.
He was lucky. I woke up fudged! I was sad as they didn't even leave a call back number!😂
That sounds awful. Thanks for your info.
i used to just rent a cheap hotel room empty if i got a girl i didnt know.not worth the risk.
I listened to every single word you said, very informative and very well related and spoken, also very true, well done!!
Thanks, mate
Solid advice Eddy, cheers for sharing
Thankyou
Great update Edward 👍
Great advice and thanks Eddy. I recall one young English guy down Phuket was trying to sell me and my family some Time Share apartments. An Aussie friend who was living in Pattaya told us not to walk away but run! Later we found out he had suckered an English couple in who were staying at our hotel and they had paid deposits. When I warned them they tried to get their deposit back which was supposed to be fully refundable.... They never got a pound back sadly.
One time a woman offered me a teaspoon of some sweet fruit surup. She said try it, it will do you good.
I gulped it down and it was foul!! I was nearly sick. It was cod liver oil, and the woman I trusted was my mother. 😅
Cheers Eddie. You are so right, don't trust anyone
I don't trust people ranting and shouting in the Soi. Like Eddie!😂😂😂😂
When I lived in China I met a guy who had lived/worked in the north west of China. He had been a Town Planner in Glasgow. One night after a few beers he got in a taxi and headed home. The taxi stopped for 2 other men en route. Strange, he thought? He was driven out of the city robbed and beaten for his watch, phone and money. He was OK. In a country where they shoot murderers in the head and charge the family for the cost of the bullet, minor crime still happens.
Hi Eddy. Good advice. Cheers!
I invested my UK pensions in an offshore pension via the Isle of Man. The adviser was James Sutherland from Manchester and I ended up losing £72,000. I later discovered my losses were minor when compared with friends. The advice should have been "you don't have enough money to invest offshore" but this fact was ignored for commission. I even paid 30% Tax to the Isle of Man Govt for the pleasure of not making any money! Your countrymen are MORE DANGEROUS
because you trust them more easily.
Learn to say "No" in whichever country you travel to. I lived in China for 6 years and arriving at an airport, "bandit taxi drivers" approach you but don't speak English. They ask you if you want a taxi? in Chinese. The power of "No" (in Chinese said assertively) sends them packing while you find the "Official Taxi Rank" . . . . . . . Great video Eddy.
Sorry to hear about your pension. Never trust anyone, anywhere
My old boss told me many many years ago, when he was very young his father stood him up on a counter top and said jump off and i will catch you,he jumped off his father stepped back and he hit the deck, then he said learn from that, don't trust anyone not even me!thanks for the memory, regards.
I wouldn't recommend that as a way of learning
Brilliant advice. Very apt.
Thankyou
Yep, one of my so called friends, when I first came to Thailand, borrowed a laptop fro me. He went back to the UK and failed to return it. Never trust anyone.
Anyone want to buy a laptop?😂
What a sly b******
@@danielclark863 I would have to see the laptop first.😆
"TRUST NO ONE" - Fox Mulder (X-Files)
Interesting and enjoyable video, Eddie.
Thankyou
If you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend watching the TV series the Serpent. It dramatises the activities of Charles Sobhraj (conman and serial killer) in South East Asia in the 1970s. It's a good lesson in the perils of accepting offers of help from strangers whilst travelling.
Interesting. Saw that
Be even more wary as Charles is out of jail now…a career criminal with robbery & murders on his track record!!
i seen it very scary
Very true with Charles Sobhraj, you should if you have not already read the book Serpentine by Thomas Thompson, or the life of crimes of Charles Sobhraj. Fascinating reading amazing how we got away with so much stuff but a lot of it was Bluff front and bribery and in the end murder.
Going back over 35 years now a friend of mine who was an avid Asian traveller says he ran into Sobhraj, in the downstairs coffee shop of the Grace Hotel, in Nana, which was a large girly hang out. He got talking to Sobhraj and was going to go with him but a few of the Thai ladies really put a stink on and he thought it was odd and backed out.
Don't talk to strangers learn how to say no I just got back to pattaya no troubles didn't mix with local men or expats only working ladies and nothing got stolen good times 😊 !
My advice if you're at an airport. Wear a monoclonal and a waistcoat. That shows your very Rich and intelligent and the thieves will be very subservient towards you.
Great advice Eddie. People who are not as experienced in travel as you are should pay attention and take this advice.
Thankyou, Austen
i been to cuba 15yrs, and have a son there eddie. YOU are correct, the blue triangle is government regulated air BnB called "casa particulars". The owners are vetted by the government, and if tourists get things stolen, they can complaint to the cops and they will investigate the owner on your behalf, any lady of 'night', you bring to the room, the owner requires her i.d card to register, and after you have your fun, the owner will ask you if everything is okay, before the owner gives back the cuban visiter her i.d. card before she leaves. THE RED TRIANGLE in front of the house is FOR CUBANS, cause their standards are not for foreigners and it cost anymore from $1cuc to $5cuc/night. Normally the owners don't rent to foreigners cause they not suppose to, but if they do let you rent, the owners are still regulated by the government, so if things are stolen or missing, you can call the cops nearby, and investigate, the owners will get a fine, cause not legal to rent to foreigners, ONLY cubans.
Thanks for your info
In India especially, good looking western women are often employed by hotels/guesthouses to guise as a regular backpacker and are then told to 'randomly' bump in to other travellers in cafes etc. She then flirts with you intensively and precedes to tell you how great her current accommodation is: a real 'hidden gem!' that you should check out asap (remember, she's pretending to be a regular traveller, and single to boot). Once a victim agrees to take a look at this amazingly cheap hotel, recommended by the 25 year old flirty 'traveller', the girl gets her commission from the hotel owners and she then buggers off in to town never to be seen by the victim again! Men need to wise-up sometimes. this is so common in other parts of Asia too.
Thanks for your info
Thank you, Eddie. That is some excellent advice and I will always keep it in mind.🤔🤨😐
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful advices. Thank You! When visiting Istanbul, never accept help from a guy in the streets. They will bring you to shop or worse, a dancing. The latter will cost you a lot.
Good advice and Great Story
Thanks, William
Brilliant video Eddie and I have had the down on the luck stories from Westerners in Thailand before and gave them all the brush off. Can't believe that some people fall for it, but as we all know a lot of folks lose their heads over there.
Enjoyed the Cuba story, and it sounds like you escaped a major scam there - alternatively the young lady just wanted to ravish your body, but we will never know LOL.
Cheers again and safe travels.
Thanks, mate. Good to hear from you.
Most scams start the same way someone comes up to you. If you need help or information go to someone who is working at a job like a cashier and ask them for information, scammers rarely have regular jobs. People have asked me to lend them money and I tell them I don't lend money to anyone but I'll buy you a beer or maybe lunch. Also never tell a stranger where you are staying give them the name of another hotel that you know of. I've made a few mistakes when I've been tired but luckily nothing that has cost me too much money. Taxis are always difficult so now I mostly use ride sharing apps like Grab or Uber. Good stories Eddy.
Thank you, too.
I got caught out in Macau , straight off the ferry. Guy collared me and we arranged a tour around the place. spent hours looking at one building after another , i was falling asleep. He arranged a hostel for me and said he would meet me outside at 9 in the morning to do some more sightseeing. The hostel had people coming and going all night long , it was defiantly very shady. Anyway i got out of there at the first light of day and got the first ferry back to Hong Kong. Bali was another place i had to have my wits about me.
Was your arse safe or in tatters?😂
@@danielclark863 My dignity was kept intact. Lived to fight another day !
What problems did you have in Bali? I lived there for 6 years and never had a problem. although things may have charged now with 11,000 Ukrainians there and some Russians.
Good man Eddie spot on
Eddy thanks mate this one is very important it has lead me to REVIEW THE SITUATION 😡

“Mr Angry”…. Does not suit you Eddy….. need to balance out a bit…. When travelling, of course be on your guard, but if you trust no one, you will be a lonely man.
Solid advice.
Expats, travellers and locals-NEVER give them money.
Great video Ed.
Thanks, mate
Great video mate. People sometimes need a reminder to keep their wits about them at all times
Very true
Very good advice in my opinion Eddie. Not trusting and being suspicious of people in general is a necessary survival skill in today's world. Where I live in Latin America( shan't name the country,) it's second nature for me to be suspicious of not only the locals, but also my fellow Westerners. In other words, simply don't trust people. In conclusion, a friend in need is a pain in the arse. Thanks for the videos and all the best Eddie.
Thanks, mate
You are not a fool , be thankful you are safe ! Safe travels always !! Enjoy ...
Great Advice , Steady Eddy.
Keep it up with these vids... when you dig into your past... it is interesting

Good advice from a seasoned traveler..
Well said Eddie.
They don't mean borrow, Eddie, they mean give.
Good video! I never take a taxi when someone asks …slow down look around see where the locals are going if you haven’t done your research
Great point
Eddy . This is one of your very best videos . People need to remember all this . ( i still do ) great work .
Wow, thank you
Some very sound advice there Eddy.
Agree 100% with this! You've definitely got to be careful. However, in my experience, this type of thing has improved significantly in South East Asia as the countries have started becoming wealthier. During my first border crossing of Cambodia and Thailand in 2007, you'd get followed by kids begging for money along the whole of the crossing zone. If you gave them any money, they'd all swarm you. In the airports in Thailand, I used to get harassed by people wanting to sell me a taxi fare for ridiculous rates, whereas these days you have to line up to even get a taxi.
Good to hear from you, mate
Wise words 👏
Thanks, Brian
When someone casually appears at your side asking where you are from and making chit chat calling you "my friend" etc, just keep walking and dont waste your time. Nobody in their right mind would strike up a conversation with other strangers out of the blue like that. There are exceptions but for the most part its not a good sign and you are their "mark".. They saw you coming
Very true
Hi Eddie it's great to see you out an about
Hey, thanks
Sound advise from a seasoned traveller, enjoyed the story of the incident in Cuba. .
Thanks, mate
Mmmm words of wisdom. I remember some YTuber saying in a video that he was fed up with other TH-camrs bitching and back biting and well, he didn't want anything more to do with them. All he wanted was to be left alone and do his own thing. However, a month or two later that same person was hob knobbing on a video with another Thailand youtuber. Never listen to what people say just watch what they do, always the best barometer.
Lol I remember that video too some ppl have short memories😅
@@bangkokbob2849 And don't take advice from tourists too!
You can wait for hours in the official taxi queue at Manila airport, it’s actually sometimes better to try to negotiate with the taxi touts. Be careful though, I agree, Ed.

You're spot on with all of these warnings Eddie . All familiar to me . As you say ...transport hubs are where you really have to have your wits about you .
Sometimes someone will grab your main bag , gesturing to some doughtful transport ...I've had to grab my luggage back at times .
And as you say ...Thailand not too bad ..Bangkok international has good taxi system and coach .

I tell you what. If I traveled to any of the countries you mentioned, I would want to tag along with you as you know what's going on. I don't want to learn the hard way! Thanks for all your great advice
Met several of those people asking to borrow 1000 baht in my 5 years of travelling, “I’ll pay you back later” haha 🤣
You can have a safe time with a freelancer as long as you keep your wallet and watch in your pocket while you shower. If you just leave your money on the counter when you shower, it will get picked through and pilfered. I made that mistake once but could not prove it. I cussed at her a bit and sent her on my way. It was my fault, not hers.
Also, I tend to leave the bathroom door open when I shower; so, I can hear or see if she leaves.
And mobile. Had a friend who had his battery stolen. Left phone!😂
I only do ST, and shower before they arrive. And hide my valuables. I never let them out of my sight. Learned the hard way many years ago.
No way you can see this one coming. Some years back, heading out of BKK airport in a shared limo to Patts. Barely 1k out of airport (up ramp to freeway), limo stopped by 2 cops. No.1 lookout and puller over the other is the receiver. He informs the driver no smoking in car allowed and wants 500 baht. I was the smoker ie after a long flight. I refused to pay the cop who insisted with his hands open thru the window. Driver (female) ends up paying. I reimburse her at destination..... but cops in uniform targeting tourists just out of airport, never saw that one coming. Sure left a bad taste for rest of holiday. Expect even the unexpected.

Always remember the old motto, " A fool and his money are soon parted" ! 😂😂😂😂
Good advice to add in manila just use grab taxi. Of course to lend means to give in se Asia. Pay extra and use short time hotels then sleep alone not with girls. Not sure I always agree with recommended hotels, of course they are getting commission but the hotel can still be good. Always have small bills. Don't get drunk. Thanks for the video
