IMHO, glue basting the binding is a game changer! My bindings have never looked better. I have also glued seam points when i couldn't get them to line up correctly. It made the seams line up perfectly on the B&W pineapple table runner I made last month. Enjoy your holiday season!
Like it made me one about 3 years ago had some bath towels with holes cut to size then used batting and made a top like yours. The towel backing made it super absorbent
This is an awesome idea. I would save an entire step. If it's a QAYG - I would layer all 4. As I sewed the strips onto the surface - It would be quilting all layers and then only the binding would be needed. Since it's in the kitchen - maybe adding a hanging tab would be helpful. 😊
Great tutorial Amy! I am a canner so I know what I will be using mine for. These will make great cooling mats for my jars when they come out of the canner. I am sew going to make a bunch of these! Thank you!...Blessings, Andrea, aka Mama J.
That's a great idea, Andrea! I'm glad you liked it! ♥️😊. I haven’t canned in a long time but this is perfect for that purpose. I used to put up tons of tomatoes and applesauce. I miss those days.
great Ideas, I didnt have any soft and stable but I had been to the Dollar Tree and bought a dish drying mat for $1.25, and I'll be using my fabrics to cover the dish mat and make it to go in a kitchen. Plus I thought of another use for these dish mats, this is a great mat for a breakfast bar to set out appies, or snacks for parties. Can't wait for the daily projects in December. Love your channel scraps are never ending, and this is a great way to use them.
I’m so glad you found a way to make it work for you! I love the idea of a table service piece. It’s essentially a giant plaemat so that’s awesome. Thank you for sharing.
loved the drying mat ... my Dt D will find it a useful gift .... I hope you will make a play list of your craft / gift ideas .. it would be helpful when viewers come to your channel
Hello Beautiful! Love your ring, it reminds me of one my grandmother had. Do you mean to tell us that you do not have a dishwasher? I don’t either, and I find I don’t miss it at all. I’ve up-cycled old terry cloth bath mats for the backs on these. It is heavier than regular towels but the edges get frayed sometimes and this gives them a new life. I’ve also seen a similar mat made with insulbrite and used for a pressing mat.
Thank you. My ring IS vintage. It came to me through a great aunt but I’m not sure if it was hers or one of her antique finds. I do have a dishwasher (and minions who do dishes) but not one of those drying baskets that clutters up my limited counter space. Thanks so much watching 😊♥️ and commenting. It always makes my day.
Great to see instructional videos from you again! I had to chuckle when you first brought out the glue. I renembered videos about Amy's glue 😉. And lastly, thanks for the perfect inspiration for my chaotic kitchen! I need to make a few for rotational purposes! Oops....and lastly...really, it is this time 😊 I can't wait for your Vlogmas videos 🎉
This was a great idea! Question could you use the backing as the trim by folding in half then iron, fold again as the finished edge, then sew. Seems like it would be easy and one less step. Peace
Haha! It can double as a cat nap mat 😜. We use it for our handwashing that can’t go in the dishwasher - I’m pretty picky about how my enameled cast iron cookware gets washed 😜😊♥️
They are so cute! Have you used them yet? Do these dry out pretty quickly after they get wet? We use a drain board on our dish pads, and they get pretty wet-does the cotton batting take a long time to dry? I have tons of bamboo batting scraps so I might try that. Bamboo is antimicrobial, so should be good in the kitchen- we’ll see how soggy it stays in fairly humid North Carolina. Great project idea, and I love your dots and stripes.
Do you only have one? Won’t they get a bit smelly, don’t you need as many of these as you have tea towels, not seen these before so I’m a bit curious as to how often you change them.
I made 3 and will likely make a couple more. We throw them in the washer and dryer once a week with the kitchen towels and cloth napkins. Works like a charm. You can hang them to dry if that’s your preference- keeps them a little flatter.
@ I have some that are store bought. I have two that I use under a dish rack and we just rotate them out, wash one while using the other. They have never gotten stinky but I don’t think they are 100% cotton. I am going to try this with bamboo batting, which is anti microbial just in case and see how it goes.
Thank you and thank you- being able to walk and move is helping. The scale isn’t changing much but my pants are looser so - something is happening. 😜😊♥️
Great idea. Although here it’s probably too damp and cold for them. Amy nearly said a bad word! 😂 My favourite PG bad word is buggeration the bots on YT, IG and FB don’t pick it up! 😂🤣😂
Great question. I always have better luck sewing with the batting towards the feed dogs - it doesn’t tangle and grip in the ‘toes’ of my sewing foot that way. But there’s no reason not to try it and see if it works for you. Thanks so much for an insightful question 😊♥️
THANK YOU for noticing that it is actually "SEW and FLIP" not "flip and sew." I know it is a bit silly, but it just makes me shake my head when people say "flip and sew" because it makes no sense! HaHa!
You just solved my Christmas gift dilemma Thanks.
Woohoo!!!
I need to make a bunch of these. Easy Peasy. Thanks for the how to.
I hope they’re all beautiful! 😊
Adorable Amy - you had me at the fabric you were using❣
💜💜💜

You are so right about glue basting! ♥️. It’s tedious but not as tedious as ripping and retrying!
Like it made me one about 3 years ago had some bath towels with holes cut to size then used batting and made a top like yours. The towel backing made it super absorbent
That’s an awesome way to use what you have and extend the life of something! ♥️😊

Go for it!!! ♥️😊

That's a great idea, Andrea! I'm glad you liked it! ♥️😊. I haven’t canned in a long time but this is perfect for that purpose. I used to put up tons of tomatoes and applesauce. I miss those days.
I literally just put a too small towel under my dish drainer and was annoyed. Perfect timing!
That's funny. I'm so glad this is helpful! 😊♥️
Amy your so much fun🥰🥰
😊♥️😊♥️

I just love this thank you such a great project
You are so welcome! Thank you!😊
I’ve used this method for mugrugs and for quilt blocks, utilizing scrap strips of all sizes. I find it to be fairly addictive.
It is so satisfying, isn’t it?! 😊
Love them!!!
Thank you!!!

Thanks for making me giggle! Thanks so much!
I'm going to have one sink soon and this is going to make life easier than using a drying rack! Thanks Amy.
You're welcome, and I hope it works out great! 😊. Thanks for watching.

Yes absolutely! That’s a fantastic idea thanks for sharing. 😊♥️
😁. Great idea! Thank you, Amy! Do I need one if I have a dishwasher ( the cat)? Marion.

Thanks so much. We have used the pink one and it does well. We have a clip in the laundry room and I just hang it there if it gets soggy.
Do you only have one? Won’t they get a bit smelly, don’t you need as many of these as you have tea towels, not seen these before so I’m a bit curious as to how often you change them.

My favourite PG bad word is buggeration the bots on YT, IG and FB don’t pick it up! 😂🤣😂
😜😊♥️
Could these be made for bath mats?
Oh that would be adorable. You’d likely need something grippy on the bottom so it doesn’t slide 😊♥️
@amydement. any suggestions?
Question: why don’t you sew the last strip from the batting side?
Great question. I always have better luck sewing with the batting towards the feed dogs - it doesn’t tangle and grip in the ‘toes’ of my sewing foot that way. But there’s no reason not to try it and see if it works for you. Thanks so much for an insightful question 😊♥️

♥️
I have a swedish?design one, wooden, foldable. Takes little space.
That’s very useful! I bet it’s fantastic.

I know. I say it wrong the first time everytime so I’m very aware of trying to get it right - but sometimes I DO have to think about it 😜
