I love the quick quilt! I was looking for someone to show this. I bought some beautiful vintage floral fabric I just know my 89 yr old mother is going to love! I planned on making a lap quilt for her.
I love that you made a pen pocket that is separate from the book cover! I can use the same pen holder with several books. Great when you are in a group that refers to several books in a meeting! Thank you! Lots of great ideas and clear instructions!
I make bags but I cut out a square on each of the bottom pieces to box the corners . Makes it so easy then to sew the corners to box them. You should try making coasters with hexagon pieces. Takes 6 hexagons for the front and 1 for the back. Only need 1 seam all around and one to topstitch after turning. There are tutorials showing how to do it. Very easy and come out beautiful. Loved all your ideas though. Thanks.
I do my tote bags with 1/2 yard for each side and nylon webbing for the handles. Since you're going to sew the top anyway, I save that part for last. I like my lining tacked to the bottom so it doesn't come apart when you wash it. Pretty sides together for the front of the bag, pretty sides together for the lining. Make your triangles in the front bag. Then sew the lining corners on the opposite side of where your edge is - so you don't have all of the bulk on one side - gets evenly distributed. So you're attached at the corners wrong sides to wrong sides. Now turn the outer bag around the lining. Fold tops in. Insert your handles where you want them. Fold in half to be sure the handles line up, adjust as needed (I pin my handles so only 4 pins to worry about). No need to birth the bag or wonder if the handles might be twisted because you can see them. I use a double needle for the top stitching in a up and down stitch (so not zig zag or you'll break your needles). Then I can do 3 different colors of thread if you want. This way I can line up about 20 bags at a time where all I need to do is the tops of the bags. Then you have 20 gifts rather than just one. Hope that helps.
Great video and ideas. I am definitely going to make some of these ideas. I loved the quilt fabric choices. I am so glad I found you. I will be watching more.
This is the best all-around gift giving video that I've seen! There are other gift videos, but either are repetitive or only 1 or 2 ideas seem to be good projects. Thank you for your unique take and clear instructions.
These are all the projects I love to work on. Thank you for putting them all in one place. I enjoy seeing your Open Gate projects, as I am a subscriber too! You have a wonderful teaching style - clear, concise and easy to follow. Camera work and editing are also great. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Happy holidays!
I love this video. Your ideas are wonderful! You instructions are very clear and well done. I also love the hair clips, what a great idea, You can pull them out without stopping to pull pins or unclip the usual sewing clips. You are a star!
I have been searching for days for a tutorial on how to sew gifts for Christmas! Most were just showing them already made! This is fantastic! I think I will make the quilt first, as I know I have some fabric similar to yours! Thanks so much for sharing! New subscriber! ❤️🇨🇦
Echoing other commenters that your video is the BEST! I've watched so many but your ideas and tutorials are really wonderful. Especially the way that you gave thoughtful categories. Thank you! You may have saved my Christmas!! ☺
Hi I didn’t see the link for the 3 rd hand binder tool. Not sure of the name lol you said you get the 2 1/2 inch one it’s purple. I love a your ideas. Great job.
Best gift video I’ve seen this season- I love the variety and quality of the gifts. Also your clear directions will make whipping these up a breeze. Thank you!!!
Love all your items, will be making some of these. That quilt is an awesome idea, I have some fabric I don’t want to cut up, would be great in this, thanks! 😊
Great ideas! Are you up for a challenge? Not being a math person & a newer sewer, I can't 'cypher' the measurements for a boxed corner tote using thrifted pillowcases for lining. =) Any pattern suggestions? Thanks!
You would measure and cut based on how wide you want the bottom of the bag to be. For example if you measure and cut at 1” the boxed area of the bag would be close to 2” (minus seam allowances). So, whatever measurement you choose to cut double it and that would be your end result. Cut at 2” the bag would be boxed at about 4”. There is no specific size you should use, it is really just dependent on how wide you want the bottom of the bag to be.
What great gift ideas, Fallon! My neighbor gave me some suede that I’ve been using for no-sew cord keepers with snaps. People are loving them! Your idea for the round pot holders with hand pockets is the one I’ll try first. Maybe I’ll have time to make some for myself, too. ☺️ The easy chap stick holders will be great to make, too. Thank you Fallon! 😘 Happy holidays!
Just have an idea for top stitching the book sleeve, you can turn the bag inside out and then top stitch the exterior fabric (with the way you have the bag on the machine) Thanks for your video and demonstrating all those great gifts!
Fallon, thank you for so many wonderful quick ideas for gifting! My husband is having a total shoulder replacement surgery on Dec 2nd and I know I won’t have much time to work on those last minute gift ideas! Your video came at the perfect time! I’m definitely going to be making most of these ideas!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!❤️❤️❤️
I am only halfway through this video, and wow! What wonderful projects! This is such a great resource. Also, that book-themed fabric--I need to know where you got that! Texting you now. 😀
I'm saving this away for next year. My gift sewing is done for this yr but I have an ongoing list of maybe's, and a number of these have been added to the list for next year. Thanks heaps, much appreciated.
These gift ideas are great Fallon, I will definitely plan on making some. And it’s great to see you again, I hope all the family is well and getting ready for the holidays 🥰
Me and my husband make and sell them. Trimlocks are used for trimming blocks to size, mostly for HSTs but you can use them for other trimming as well. I used the quilt lock a lot in this video too. That one I use to quickly quilt my quilts with straight lines. sew-be-it-quilts.myshopify.com
Finished size 11 x 14? I thought that’s what you started out with but that you were going to trim it to 10 x 13? Such good gift ideas and great teaching method for beginners.
I did plan to trim it, but everything stayed lined up nicely so I decided to keep the larger size. That usually doesn’t happen for me when there are thick layers. Usually things shift and get wonky.
All excellent projects Fallon and helpful. You have great explanations. I have made loads of those large casserole size hot pads and gave them as gifts. My family all hate the silly small ones.
Such a nicely done tutorial, thank you! I've been quilting since ... forever... but I've never seen or heard of the straight line guide that I think you called a quilt lock ruler. Is there a link you can help me with? Thanks again & Merry Christmas!
I use the quilt lock to straight line quilt on my regular sewing machine. This video might help explain a little more. th-cam.com/video/R_l9LUsRflg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ikNPUPWKrT4T4wGl
Thank you for taking the time and teaching us step by step. Binding has been a little scary for me, but after watching your video I feel brave enough to tackle it. I make up a box that I give our kiddos on Christmas Eve. Something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read. I’m so making up the book marks, and sleeve to go with their new books. Going to also tuck in the chapstick holder, and a new charging cord and cord keeper. Thanks again, you are an amazing teacher! Have a wonderful Holiday season !🎄☺️
If it is the Quilt Lock you are looking for, my husband made it for me, we did start selling them in our online shop. sew-be-it-quilts.myshopify.com/collections/quilt-locks
I love my clips! I think these are the ones you are looking for. A bag maker I follow sells them in her shop. moremeknow.com/collections/sewing-clips/products/rainbow-metal-hair-clips
Have you used that cord? It says that it is fast charging but a lot of the reviews says that it does not fast. I was wondering because I thought of ordering my grandson one for his birthday next month and make one of the cord corral for it.
Hi Fallon, thank you, thank you, Thank you! Love your channel!
You’re very welcome!
Love these gifts! I would make all of them!
I love the quick quilt! I was looking for someone to show this. I bought some beautiful vintage floral fabric I just know my 89 yr old mother is going to love! I planned on making a lap quilt for her.

What is quilt lock for the casserole pad?

I have looked in the descriptions & read all comments but I don’t see any mention of the kind of clips that you are using, what are they called?

I personally think it charges just as a regular cord would. I dont think it is particularly fast compared to others.
Is the fusible fleece in your pot holders 100% cotton. I thought fleece was polyester.
If you remove the table , it would be easier to topstitch around the top.
Thank you for the tip
Are you using a zipper foot?
