I've been singing opera professionally for over 25 years and lost the socially significant ability to yodel and do the "Tarzan Yell" that I had in my youth. Thanks to you, I just yodeled successfully again. You're great!
OMG!! Can't express how grateful I am to have found this channel. I've been trying to get back into singing and this is helping me so much, and also giving me the confidence and insights to try new ways to improve my singing! Ugh, I love it!!! Thank you, Justin!! You are awesome!
Hey Justin Stoney You are a Supernatural Coach & also makes me laugh a lot, bcos u always put smile on my face, Yodeling has changed my life, yeah i have a lot of sheep!!!!
Love from India.Late kishore kumar,a playback singer used to youdle in his play back .He popularisef youdling in the subcontinent .All his youdling songs are available in the Utube!
I’m not a pop singer but I’m going to incorporate this into my warm ups for arias to help take the weight off my voice. Thanks for the thorough explanations and demonstrations! :)
The intervals he is using are 5th and 10th back and forth. So, if we start with a C chord, that is the G note on bottom, alternating with the E note on top. He brings the chord up semitones and then down semitones as is typical with vocal exercises.
I've been obsessed with yodeling as soon as I heard a beautiful song from one of my favorite bands and I was like to my voice teacher, it sounds like a yodel, so pretty, what is it? "Oh, he yodeled." "REALLY?!" and then I wanted to learn. Thanks so much for this video... very informative too.
You should make a tutorial on throat singing, it has opened my senses up to all the vibrations, it really makes you one with whatever you are making music out of, I think it is definitely THE FASTEST possible way to learn how to create multiple tones at once. There's many styles, 6 for khoomei, dag kargyraa, steppe kargyraa, sygyt, (the easiest one) byrlang, ezengileer, and borbangnadyr.
The yodeling piece was especially helpful, as I have known the benefits of it for some time and yodeled as a kid. But I had actually forgotten how to yodel and you simplified the process for me. This will be one of my favorite exercises!
I always wanted to learn that 'thing' some singers do, which I just realized is what you're describing - I didn't know it was like a yodel! LOL. I just started learning yodeling with some videos on youtube and also realized my husband's tarzan call is a yodel, and found out when he sings 'long lonesome blues' he yodels. (He had been making fun of me for learning to yodel - NOT anymore! I got him now! lol.)
I could do this 10 years ago whether I liked it or not. Then I spent the next 10 years learning to connect my voice and now I can't do this. Definitely looking forward to practicing it.
Thank you for all of your videos. The theory presented along with the exercises is so helpful. I also like your singing, great range and expression. Thanks again for sharing your expertise.
Ohhhh Justin! I just adore your jokes! I live in the country in Wiconsin, anf just up my road is a sheep farm...I'm about half tempted to go yodel to them!! This thought lead me to this one...maybe I shoukd see if they have any yodeling competitions in Wisconsin bc I love this new tool you have taught me Justin! The singer in me is alive and thirsty for live gigs....I was wondering if I could send my karaoke rrecordings over to you and if sm1 could listen and see what I need to work in I would greatly appreciate it! I like to have some knowledge walking into a vocal coaches office only to tell me I need all these lessons, in which their agenda is showing ;in what they are really tryung to do and I don't want a teacher like that anyway...Sort of like when you take your car to. A buddy who knows cats and they look at it look to see what is wrong or what needs to be fixed so when you take it to the mechanic you dont get taken for a ride. Vroom Vroomm! Lol. I enjoy all the singing lessons i have done so far. I love to sing and it gets me out of my head and into my feels! Many people in this word are empaths and feeling indvls., there are also over thinkers, who ONLY live in their head but who can smtms access the feeling bit...that is like that for me. It helps relax me and with my yoga and meditation my singing lvl has increased bc i have more breath and breath control. This helps me sing Patsy Oh so good!! I'm still learning her vocal acrobatics but I WILL MASTER THEM! Ialso haven't tried Adele yet..Im working it. I woukd love if you could do that for me so then I can practice abd move on o maybe finding a cover band to preform at weddings and such. Im really very excited and am looking forward to any info you may have on any of the topics I touched on here today , and waiting patiently for your response...so I can practice and go forth to unleash my voice to the world with a debute! when I was younger I started to mimic jewel. I can't yodel fast like her, but I can move faster between chest and head because of it. It's a good idea to practice with her songs.
I didn;t realize you were joking about the sheep. I tried this on my back porch and believe it or not.... sheep started arriving. amazing. Unfortunately, after a few days the local shepherd came by with a shotgun and demanded all his sheep back. Bummer.
How should the larynx feel during this exercise? Should it be lifting slightly while shifting to head, or should it stay "rigidly" neutral during the register shift, if that is even possible? I find that my larynx naturally lifts and drops a bit (slightly lower position in chest) during the register-flip, but as I go up in pitch; it drops from slightly lifted to neutral, instead of low. Idk why, but I'm afraid I'm hurting myself as it's such a quick lift and drop-sensation, I can't know for sure if it's a natural part of switching so fast; it feels free though, and I'm not in any pain while doing it. I would really appreciate any answers that could help me understand these sensations a little bit better. Love from Norway💞
I just found this and it is absolutely fabulous. I am in a band learning a cover song that has the "yodeling" change. I was able to kind of do it just after watching half of the video.I will practice more for better results. I think it would be helpful if the instructor demonstrated it in a song bit.
I know my reply is late but the episode right before this one has him doing several demomstations of this concept. I hope this helps! P.S. Just start at episode 1 and watch all the vids on this channel; they're all in depth and awesome!
I don’t know if it’s because of being in choir so long but I find it hard to make there be a crack. This video was helpful though and I’ll keep trying!

hi coach! nice lessons. is there a way to shift smoothly from chest to head voice without the 'yodeling crack/transition' ? i heard some singers can do it and without me noticing they already shifted to head voice.
This may be a little bit of a silly question, but about that vocal warmup, I'm a lady, but I'm kinda iffy about the how high pitched both i's are. For me, they're too much of a head voice. Also, I'm having a lot of trouble getting that sort of clean voice crack transition between notes. Heck, I can't even get my voice to crack at all! What's the technique?
Can yodeling "randomly" benefit the vocal chords just in general? What I mean by "random" is just yodeling however you feel like it, and not trying to stay in tune, or arrive at a certain pitch. So basically, a very effortless, "no rules" yodel warmup.
