    A huge thank you to you, you have just pushed my limits in what I imagined possible with AE and 2D animation! You are just incredible!
    I have scrupulously observed all the manipulations 4 years after your tutorial, and it still works like hell!! 🤩

    Great! By the way, you can click the lock button on the top left in effect controls panel, so that it's easier to parent objects in different comps without moving or creating a new panel.

    So awesome of you to share this! One thing though - before the crash you didn't get to the second thumb joint. I'm sure it's not different from the other joints, but maybe there's a small difference we didn't get to see?

    Okay, but is there some way to consolidate these multiple sliders into a single "master slider", which can interpolate between various combinations of child-slider-values? I'd love to be able to create a series of poses with combinations of sliders, then have one single slider which can move between these poses smoothly.

    • @backwoodsanimation
      @backwoodsanimation  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you looking for a way to have a slider for "Point" and for "Fist" and so on? To be honest I'm sure there's a way but I just haven't looked into how that would be done. Sorry I couldn't help, Good luck!

    This is a great tutorial but no matter what I do and how many times I try I cannot get the fingers to curl with the slider. The whole finger rotates on the bottom knuckle anchor point, even though the other anchor points are where they should be? Argh. Does anyone know whats going on?

    • @Lukewheldon7
      @Lukewheldon7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, so I think I've fixed it! Even though the parenting was correct I had to pick whip all of the child knuckles to the slider also. Weird AF but, hey, it seems to be working now (I'm only one finger deep right atm!)

    • @Lukewheldon7
      @Lukewheldon7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolute madness going on in AE 17.1.2. Some had to be parented to the slider, some didn't. It's taken me about an hour to figure out three fingers ahaha. Again, thanks for the great tut! Absolutely nothing wrong with it, AE is just an unstable POS right now.

    Hi! I cannot figure out why the palm isn't rotating when I apply the rotation, can you think of something that may be wrong? I could send you my proyect file if you are willing to check it out. Great tutorial though, thanks!

    • @sam5734
      @sam5734 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is using Joysticks and sliders for the rotation but seeming as he only uses the X axis, you can do the rotation on On Duik Bassel.
      1a. Create your open right hand as a shape layer. Keyframe the path.
      1b. Move on the timeline 20 frames (shift+pgdown to jump 10 at a time) Change your shape path so that it's fully rotated the other way.
      1c. Jump back 10 frames, as this will be halfway between the rotation. Add a Keyframe .
      2. Create a slider connector in Duik. This will create 2 layers, the Controller (C) and it's background (CBG)
      3. On the C | controller, press P to bring up the position in the timeline. Click on the position drop down thing.
      4. In your Duik Panel there is a button called 'Select Master Property'. Click this (nothing will happen immediately).
      5a. Select your path keyframes on your shape layer.
      5b. Click 'Connect to Properties' in your Duik Panel.
      6. Moving the position on the controller will now rotate the palm right to left.
      7. You can attach the position of the fingers in the same way, keying the far left and far right positions and
      then connecting to properties.

    And it's like a still image.

    • @backwoodsanimation

      Colourless hey this is a simple fix. Select the layers you want to render then right click on them. This will pull up a whole list of options, find “guide layer” and select it off. This will allow your selected joysticks controls to render. Good luck!

    Awesome video, but I am disappointed that this is billed as a Joysticks and Sliders video, then you suddenly jump to Duik Bassel. While the end result is pretty awesome, my first response is "WTF, now I have to download and learn another different tool in order to get the effect I want." I would have loved to have that information upfront than to find out halfway through. It also leaves me with the question "Is this even possible just with Joysticks and Sliders alone?" After many hours of searching for the answer and experimenting on my own, I am left without the answer.
