    This is the best daily trainer ever (IMO). Most comfortable, responsive, easy on the legs for the longer miles, and that Puma grip is good enough to even take it on the trails as well.

    After so many rave reviews on TH-cam, I took upon my wife’s kind offer to gift me a pair-since she herself was buying a pair for herself. Couldn’t have been prouder of my decision to accept. What a shoe! Completely blew me away and really matched the reviews! Color, performance, feel, grip, upper, etc. it’s snug on my left foot (it’s a tad wide), but not to the point of bothersome. I’m not a marathon runner, so it’s adequate for my below 20k distances.

    I somehow managed to get my Puma Deviate Nitro 2 for $96 back in December. Maybe Puma was having some holiday sale at that point. I agree that $160 is a bit much and when I saw the price drop, I went for it. I'm glad I did since it has been my favorite shoe so far this year. That Puma grip is hard to beat. I'm glad you recommended this over the Adidas Boston 11 since I was kind of looking at that shoe and this one.

    Regarding Puma D Nitro 2. I ordered a pair and got the Wide at a discount. Fits well and so far loving it. I did some research and the website says the wide is a completely different shoe. It has all Nitro Elite foam verse the blend of Nitro and Elite. Also it says it is a fiber composite verse a true carbon fiber plate. Not sure if it is true. But that is how they are listed.

    I don't typically care about the upper of a shoe, but this is an exception. By far, the most comfortable upper I've ever worn. Midsole is comfortable, but also responsive. And Pumagrip is incredible. At 200 miles, I choose this shoe for a wide range of runs, especially because any day that involves wet roads, this is by far the best shoe I have. I've raced a half marathon in the rain in this shoe and got the victory! Then I chose this one for a 5k race that involved road, grass, and caliche gravel, and the shoe went to 2 for 2 in races with another victory. For me, this shoe's versatility makes it truly exceptional for folks who might have 3-5 shoes in the rotation.

    The Deviate Nitro 2 is my first plated shoe. Definitely worth it at 30% off MRSP during a recent holiday sale in Singapore. I had been resisting carbon-plated shoes because I figured I should just do old-school until I become a seasoned runner (coming up on my one-year runniversary), but I liked the idea of the composite plate. It may be my imagination, but compared to Peg 39s, this shoe really seems to deliver in the energy-return category! I've done a bit of speed work with it and mainly tempo runs. Running purely on feel, I'm getting 5:15 minutes/km in these vs. around 5:30/km in the Pegs at the same RPE. Placebo effect? Maybe, but I'm enjoying the speed--wherever it comes from. I went up half a size due to length rather than width issues. 9 1/2 is slightly roomy in the toe box but 9 would have left very little room at the front.

    • @johnvarjohn2549
      @johnvarjohn2549 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not placebo dear friend, i totally agree with you. Enjoyable, great cushion and energy return without it feeling strange or over-bouncy.

      Cheers from Greece.

    • @jamesjin8839
      @jamesjin8839 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to the "teched-up" runing world my friend. It's definitely not placebo, you're just late into the party. I used to be all about max cushion shoes for easy long runs until some of it was too damn soft and "cushiony" that I started to develop foot pain at the bottom of my feet. One shoe that didn't cause that to me was my cloudmonster and it was the only shoe that had the speedboard in there and being slightly more firm and rigid than others. So I made the leap of faith, picked endorphin speed 3 and it totally turned my perception of runing shoe world upside down. These days most brands are offering that formular since the ES3 is so damn successful and popular. Racing foam+daily foam+slightly more flexible/less rigid plate/rods and more durable/comfortable upper. It's a package that packs the fun of super shoes ,allow the option to pick the pace, but is still nice enough to run for easy day and recovery days. The real challenge in these shoes for me was to constantly remind myself to not go hard on it. Keep telling myself to slow down and maintain the pace because they're that much fun you unintentionally up the pace before you know it. That's ok for a work out but not on easy days.

    After 55kms on the Deviate Nitro 2, the word that best describes this shoe is versatility. It accepts any type of workout (or race) you want to do on it.

    Glad to see your review of the Deviate Nitro 2. It's my favorite all-round running shoe - a jack-of-all-trades that can do almost everything very well. Due to its awesome outsole, I also like it for going on smooth mild trails. It can do speed workouts, daily runs, and easy long runs and transition between them smoothly. It doesn't do any one thing *extremely* well like, say, a Prime X Strung for long tempo runs or Vaporfly 2/3 and the Takumi Sen 8/9 for all-out speed workouts and races or the More v4 and Nimbus 25 for easy/recovery, but it does everything well enough. As you say, hard to categorize. I went half-size up and that worked out well but then got a second pair in EE size and that worked out even better.
    To me, the DN2 is a great workhorse shoe. It's not the most exciting shoe and the ride feels a bit muted, but it's comfortable and chugs along nicely when you just want to put in some quality miles.

    • @alexkhan2000
      @alexkhan2000 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@thurules For excitement, speed, and fun factor, I prefer the Adidas Adizero shoes with Lightstrike Pro midsole - Prime X Strung 1/2, Adios Pro 3, Takumi Sen 8/9, and Boston 12. They just have more of the "wow" factor in terms of propulsion, responsiveness, energy return, and fast turnover.
      The New Balance FuelCell shoes like the SC Elite v4/3 , SC Trainer v2/1 and the Rebel v4/3 are also very bouncy and fun. They are noticeably softer (except for SC Elite v4) and not as responsive as the Adizero shoes IMO, but they are more comfortable.
      The Puma shoes have that "old school" feel and ride. They are not as assistive as the Adizero or the high-performance FuelCell shoes but are more robust with a workhorse type of reliable quality to them.
      To use a general car analogy, the Adizero shoes (and Nike Alphafly 3 and Vaporlfy 3/2) are like race sports cars - exciting but not always very comfortable. The NB shoes are like high performance sedans - plush with a focus on comfort. Puma shoes are like high performance trucks - solid, reliable, durable, super grippy for all types of terrains and weather conditions, and has a chugging type of ride than bouncing you forward.
      I love them all for experiencing different feel and rides at various paces and for various distances. Adidas, NB, and Puma are my three favorite brands with Nike's AF3 and VF3 added for top tier racing shoes. ASICS, Saucony, and Hoka make some nice shoes as well, but I just didn't like them as much as the Adidas, NB, and Puma shoes. Hope this helps!

    I had the Deviate 2, liked the upper, but the midsole just felt sooo flat and too stiff for me - I found it very confusing to run in, it felt like I couldn't roll off the toes at all. I also found that cutout in the midsole was a vacuum for stones. I ended up selling it and replaced it with the Hyperion max which I'm really enjoying. Everyone responds differently to shoes. In AU/NZ the puma is also a chunk more expensive than the Brooks too, and Brooks are often on sale but Pumas never are.

    70% carbon plate. The upper doesn't have a lot of volume, with a snug fit, but that is Puma, which is pretty standard for a European shoe. I use it as a daily trainer with some speed sessions. I would pair this with the Puma velocity Nitro. Also, Puma offers great discounts, so you should easily get the shoe with at least 20% discount.

      @kofuzi  ปีที่แล้ว

    Only £70 in UK now on sale. I thought the £100 I paid a few months ago was a good buy - I really like them - comfort, responsiveness, stability, and quite protective of legs. Fairly fast although not an all out racer by any means. Definitely more sprightly than the velocity 2s.

    🎉Personally, for a daily trainer, i would prefer a non-plated shoe just to get some variety for the foot. If i were to get a shoe with a plate, I would just get a racing shoe since they last so much longer nowadays anyway.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      including a plate in a non-racing shoe is a double edged sword. putting a plate in a shoe can attract some customers while deterring others.
      but I generally think of plates in non-racing shoes as stability elements. like a Mizuno wave plate or an Adidas LEP system.

    I know that it’s not in the same category, but do you have any opinion on how the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 compares with the Asics Superblast in terms of speed and comfort? I need a shoe for my faster workouts but I won’t need it for anything too hardcore. I’m still a beginner, but I’d want to get something a tad faster than my Asics Novablast 4, for the 5k speed workouts and I found the Superblast and Deviate Nitro 2 at a discount.

    Puma rep said the upcoming Magnify Nitro 2 has a wider toe box due to the more anatomical last, just FYI.
    What shoes would you recommend for recovery runs and distances of 5-8 miles, tops? Ideally something cushioned but bouncy.

    Thanks for the video. I'm looking for some advice. I've been running on the cumulus 24 as my daily trainer. I use that for distances from 10k to 15k, usually at easyto medium paces. I'm looking for a 2nd pair in my rotation with a bit more responsive ride as a daily trainer. Am heavily contemplating the deviate nitro 2. Went to test it out and it feels good but one concern that I had was that I felt my feet tilting a little inward as i land as compared to the usual flat landing that i feel with my cumulus 24. Is that feeling normal for this shoe and is it okay? A 2nd alternative im looking at is the forever run nitro.
