      I follow a few pigeon accounts but not that one and youtube just simply recommended your account. And thanks for the time you put into this video and I have a question for you, what percentage of the young will be barless with two parents carrying the gene?

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean if two barless carriers are mated together? 50% will carry but not express the gene, 25% will get two copies and will be barless, and the final 25% won't get the gene at all. It's the first Punnett Square in the video 👍

    I have a question if you pair up two ballast pigeons together would they continue being ballless the young ones. But they both have to be from the same genes or it could be too ballast of the same bird but different genes and would I still get the same ballace young ones

    • @AdamArcherPigeons

    Nice videos... by the way can I post some links to your videos in a pigeon genetic site I may try to build? P.S another way to track barless without using the pattern series is to use recessive opal. I prefer this method. You can understand why.

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea sure, just make sure you embed the TH-cam video rather than download and re-upload it.
      And yes, recessive opal is very closely linked to the pattern locus, I'm actually using that example in another genetics video I'm working on at the moment 👍

    Isn’t it just a grey colour pigeon, like white etc?

      No, barless is one of the different pattern genes in pigeons

    They look alright but I've never heard or seen a barless blue win in races

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because they're bred by people who don't understand genetics. Follow the procedure at the end of this video and you'll have competitive barless birds.

      @@AdamArcherPigeons we dont really mind what the colour of the pigeons are, as long as they race that's what matters

    Did you say pair the pigeons with their own offspring….or pair the siblings 😢…isn’t that unethical???

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pigeons naturally pair with their siblings in the wild all the time - pigeons tolerate inbreeding very well and it does not cause genetic problems.
