I like the really abrasive DEP stuff for sure, but it's incredible how great they are when it comes to melody. I love it when extreme bands throw in melody because is just makes the abrasive stuff that much more powerful...because it's that much more deliberate. These guys are genius.
tbh I like the "softer" stuff more.(with of course,the usual dose of crazy rhythms and sounds)I'm not confident to say there shouldn't be some abrasive tracks, but not every track should be approaching noise either.

I saw them live in a a small place in Sweden around the time this came out. One hell of a show. Got home from the afterparty in the morning and went to work like two hours later. That day felt neverending.

I saw them playing this live yesterday. I wish I could have been standing (I was sitting on the balcony), Greg pulled a kid who was crowd surfing and screamed right in his face. What I wouldn't give to have been that lucky shit!

I knew about the insane techy math stuff from them before checking further into their biggest tracks. This is amazing! The trumpet is such a cool touch, good to see a band like this being so diverse!
The first time I ever heard any mention of these guys was in Guitar World when Ire Works was released. I managed to find a copy at BestBuy (of all places!) and... WOW! Admittedly, this type of music is not for your average metalhead but after repeated listenings I began to truly appreciate what it is that DEP does. Since then I have downloaded Calculating Infinity, Option Paralysis and One of Us is the Killer and I am convinced that this band is in a class all by itself. Sure, they combine more "listener-friendly" elements into their "mathcore" style but isn't that what makes it even more of a mind-f--k to listen to? Check out the background horn section on this song... it turns this track into a New Millenial version of the "Peter Gunn" theme. Well done gentlemen!
I definitely got extremely into all Dillinger stuff and have a penchant for extreme - but it really was this song that was their first HUGE earworm for me.
TDEP are a rare beast...a group that make sonically deranged music with no desire to be commercial... Sure the money is a great reason to try and be populist but the art should be the premier goal... I'm fairly sure TDEP like their "converts" and a mega buck deal would corrupt their ethos.... The Dillinger Escape Plan, the best band never to win a Grammy!
