      This is the first engine I ever had that you torque the heads, then loosen it again, then retorque. and no brass bushings on the cams either.

    I replaced my timing belt and it ran fine for a week. Now there is low power. I went back in to the timing belt and verified that it was perfectly aligned and it was. It his giving a misfire code on cylinders 1 and two and it idles rough. I replaced all four plugs and that did not fix it. When I pulled the plugs there was a lot of oil on the threads. I did a compression check and found 110 PSI on all four. Any ideas?

      Make sure there is no oil in the spark plug holes that would create a ground and cause misfires. Does the car burn oil? Could be valve stem seals leaking, but weird why it ran good for a week but can happen.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. I have a quick question. I have a Hyundai Elantra 2009 an this engine looks alike. In order to change the cam timing chain, Do I need to remove the timing belt? Thanks

      @motorcarnut  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you and yes you do. Both cams have to be raised to replace the back timing chain

    • @robertsmith2956
      @robertsmith2956 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes, there is no room to put the chain on with them bolted down. You might get away with unbolting the socket. But would still need it off to get the cam sprocket back on.

    My exhaust CVVT sprocket was moved after a minor accident. It does not get correct no matter what. What can I do ?

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If an accident did that I would expect more damage to valve train. Hard to know what happened because that is not normal

    If timing belt slipped. How can you tell if the crankshaft is not one turn out of rotation? (we used to call it 180 degrees out). If piston #1 is TDC and crackshaft gear is at the proper mark, would that be the proper rotation?

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      TDC on compression stroke then Yes

    on my 07 1.6 Im about to replace the timing belt, Not sure of previous owner did it so its overdue. ...... is there a way to simply CUT old timing belt & remove it carefully and install New belt without too many complications ?
    I was thinking ......... make sure Cranksfaft mark is lined up before cutting the belt .. then when ionstalling new belt,just have to make sure all 3 marks stay lned up as Im putting on new belt. Opinions ? Wish it were like Ford 2.0 where you can put a carpenters angle which fits perfectly tight into the end of both cam gears to garentee alingment then the gears CAN NOPT move when installing new belt. Why didnt Hyndai think of this ................ have a way of LOCKING the cam gears.

      @motorcarnut  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No there are no short cuts especially with valve timing work. Do it properly the first time for a long lasting repair

    Question... am working on 1.6 accent and my timing chain marks are dead on but the belt cam sprocket (1:48) timing hole mark is off...am perplexed how the timing chain and upper belt pully got off of timing... need advice..

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It must of jumped? There’s no other way unless someone messed with the timing.

    After timing alignment, a loud ticking sound appears on my Kia Rio 2010. What supposed to be the problem? Hope you can help?

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you messed something up, make sure chain guides are fine and not cracked. Recheck all timing marks again and also the chain tensioner.

  • @allen22390
    @allen22390 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a 2009 Kia Spectra that jumped time. I pulled the timing belt and valve cover to check the valve timing.
    I couldnt find any clear differences in link colors, except after genlty scraping off each link I did come across 2 links that were slightly less shiny than all the other links.
    Only issue is that counting from the first link to the last link only amounts to 7 total links. Any help would be appreciated!!

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to follow the video to set it up. Try cleaning the chain with a wire brush and some parts cleaner to fine the different color links and start there.

    • @allen22390
      @allen22390 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Motorcarnut Thanks for the reply! I did eventually clean all the links and still only had a difference of 7 links altogether. Doesn't make sense why it would be different from yours, but they lined up with the marks that I found on the head. Here's to hoping! 😁

    • @motorcarnut

      Well chain had 8 links, the intake was a pain since the mark is on the tooth which is under the link. Belt on everything buttoned up, turned engine over by hand two revolutions with cover off. I guess the tensioner will fill with oil when I fire it up.
      Now I have till friday to drop the other engine so I can order the clutch parts with my coupon. Been needing an AC system on it for 4 years, now is the time to get it since there will be room under the hood. and my DVD player for the dash, been waiting to install it when I do the clutch for years. 190K on original clutch is ridiculous.

    The timing belt on the 2010 Hyundai Accent got stripped teeth and stopped rotating I lined up the belt correctly and replaced it along with the tensioner however I got a code p0016 afterwards when I got the engine running. How do I correct this

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the code was not there before the timing belt failure then the timing is probably off. Can also be low oil, vtc valve, etc. but wouldn’t make sense if code was not there before.

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to know, I know nothing about your car but timing chain is not supposed to make noise at all. However, if there is something wrong like it is stretched then yes it will make noise in that area.

    • @cristianelopez1155
      @cristianelopez1155 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s same car 2010 Hyundai accent 1.6 alpha 2 engine it make like ticking noise on driver side but only when I shift to 3rd gear or around 3k rpm but not on bottom end so deff not rod knock

    I have a 2008 Kia I had the timing chain and water pump and head rebuilt. I now have an oil leak the mechanic that did the original work did not put the timing top cover on correct. I returned the car for him to correct the problem but he did not. I did order a new cover I need it put on. Can you possibly leave me in the right direction? I don't know what to do I cannot find a mechanic to fix the problem.

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that, mechanic should of done the repair correctly. I don’t know your skill level to do the repair. Where exactly is it leaking from? May not need a new timing cover but maybe just resealed?

    I did my timing belt on 07 kia rio. I think I might be one tooth off because it seems under powered I have to really run it hard to make up for the lost power just to drive it because it is a slug. I have been pushing it hard for over a year now. Could it just be one tooth off retarded.? 🤔 thanks

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It certainly can be, I would assume it would throw a code as well

    • @robertsmith2956
      @robertsmith2956 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I put a dot on the belt one tooth over from the timing mark on cam with a silver sharpie. Then opened the tensioner, slid the belt off the cam gear, and rotated it with a wrench one tooth, then slid belt back on, and released the tensioner. 5th timing belt was not a charm, but the timing cover marks said your off, and so did the code. I know I rotated the engine 4 revolutions checking it. But 1st time with no one up top watching the cam timing mark. Plugs were all removed, so maybe it was the lack of compression dragging on the belt that got me. The other 4 were just the belt, didn't have the head off. Took an hour because of that damn harmonic balancer. I'm making a puller for this engine that works before the next one.
