Plus Snow & a few others guys like Blackman, Regal, & Shamrock had enough credibility back then to make a nice little division if booked right. The thing with the hardcore division is even back then they knew not to take too much damage to make it unbelievable. Nowadays it's just a spot fest. Ohh look we can hit each other with barbed wire everything. There is no psychology to it. It doesn't fit anyone's character. No believability. No stakes.

Cena, once he was in for a few years, always seemed competent and professional in the ring. He moves a little awkwardly and his move set was limited, but he always worked on improving and it showed. I'm not surprised to hear a respected vet saying he did a good job leading the match they worked. I'm sure Cena took pride in exactly that.
I stopped watching wrestling before the Ruthless Aggression Era and the Rise of Cena but watch tons of these shoot interviews from. The guys I did watch as a kid and teenager and honestly I haven't heard many bad things about Cena in the ring. Every big guy said he was the strongest dude and felt like they were a new born being picked up when John would do his finisher. Guys like The Big Show and Mark Henry they were so surprised how strong he actually was. John could squat damn near a 1000 lbs so I'm not surprised he could pick up all the big dudes with ease.
Moves are what they are - it's what you do with what you've got. Jerry Lawler was probably a T5 guy in the ring in in the 80s and basically just punched guys 90% of the time.
When Punk came into WWE he was under the old school impression the heels led the match when he got in there with Cena and he started calling spots he asked the ref who tf was calling the match and he could sense some pressure being lifted off of cena like Alright this guy has something.
Sabu is very down-to-earth, he and I had a great conversation at the Hard Rock Cafe in Atlantic City a few years back, it wasn't like talking to a celebrity, it was more like talking to one of my old friends. I have many other celebrities working at that location over the years, and while most of them were pretty decent, none of them were anywhere near as approachable.
Sabu is actually one of my all-time favorites. The man gives his heart and soul in that ring, and lays it on the line for the fans, an absolute legend.
He was protecting his character, protecting kayfabe as well, which is a lost art today in the business today's "PERFORMERS" can't even grasp that concept.
Pretty much every wrestler I've heard who's done matches with Cena has had great things to say about his work. Everyone has their part to play, and Cena filled the role of that good guy character.
Cena gets hated on because he never needed to be a heel. He was a workhorse that helped do things that most wish they could do. Let’s not also forget SouthPaw Regional Wrestling
Sabu was amazing and tough as nails. He put his body through hell every night to entertain us. By the way, anyone knows if Sabu might be on the Spectrum? Never noticed when he was in character but in shoot interviews I have noticed certain signs that may indicate that.
