  • Greetings everyone! Check out this brand new video where I build Tamiya's Panzer III Ausf L. This will be part 1 of a multi part series that will culminate with a battle of Kursk diorama.
    Also, let me know what you think of the blue backdrop. I'm thinking about using it permanently. I'd love to hear your feedback!

    Nice work overall. The colour of the inside of hatches should be the same as the exterior colour though. The Germans recognized that the off-white interior colour compromises the camouflage scheme when a hatch is open.

    I'm watching this video because I'm going to get my first 1/35 scale model kit. I recently met a 104yr old Wehrmacht veteran who was in the 14th Panzer Division. He said he was in a Panzer III. Long story short, I wanted to make a model of his tank. Excellent video, thank you!

    The large color pallet of oils is nice.
    I had no idea what I would do with most of them, until I was working on Missouri in her MS30 series camo. I made an ocean grey wash for her to make color modulation and grime on the turrets and a few areas.

      Yeah, I don't always use every color, but I like to keep my options open!

    Nice build - well done.
    I have stayed away from vallejo paints preferring my Tamiya for cammo schemes because of ease of application but they do have a great selection of colours.
    Thank you for sharing.

      I agree, the Tamiya paints are far superior. However, I do not like mixing colors, and I find that the Tamiya range is severely lacking in color options, which is why I turn to Mig and Vallejo. But, I'm just lazy that way! Thanks for watching!

    Hi buddy great build and paint and weathering on your panzer 3 might buy this kit my self also like your idea of building the kit in sub assembly's never thought of doing that's but going to try it.keep up the good work. Cheers Gary from the UK 🇬🇧 . have subscribed 👍

      Really appreciate the sub and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The kit itself is pretty nice, simple, but in the end it looks like a panzer III. I definitely recommend it.

    Note: II01 would have been the 2nd Battalion Commander's personal tank. depending on the year, the Adjutant IIa and extra tank IIb followed by the Reconnaissance platoon commander in II04 would have followed. II05-II08 would be the tank reconnaissance platoon. Regimental staff followed the same but would be R01-R04 with the Regimental Recon Tank Platoon as R05-R08.
    Bruce Culver has the best books for anyone who wants to get tactical markings and colors right. Panzer Colors I, II, and III. I use them religiously
    Ist company, 1st platoon would look like this. 111, 112, 113, 114, 115. 2nd Platoon, 121, 122, 123, 124, and 125. Its ALWAY... Company#, Platoon #, Tank #.

    Thank you very much for this video! I'm starting with this new hobby and this is the first set i bought. Looking forward to the assembly! Just a question; what is the name of the black primer? I don't seem to find it. (I'm ordering most colours of the set, some satin varnish and washes to start with...)
    Again, thanks for the explanation!

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is a link to the primer I use:
      www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-249127-Painters-Purpose-12-Ounce/dp/B002BWOS7Q/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1NQPARRYBCYXN&keywords=rustoleum+2x+black+primer&qid=1673743065&sprefix=rustoleum+2x+black+prime%2Caps%2C135&sr=8-2
      Hope this helps and welcome to the hobby! Always happy when we get some new blood.

    love it! well done. Question though, did you have a reference photo for the colour scheme?

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. I had loosely based it on a color profile I found in a book, I liked it because I hadn't really seen a yellow/red pattern before. I cannot verify its authenticity however. But, I looked cool!

    • @brad9336
      @brad9336 ปีที่แล้ว

      @HammerheadModelMaking mate, if it's out of a book, it's a reference, I reckon! Do you know the name of the book?

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brad9336 I wish I could remember, it was years ago I was flipping through the book in passing, just a few of the profiles stood out to me and kind of stuck in my brain. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful.

    Hi, the light blue backing is very effective. It shows off more of your work without distraction and the colors seem to 'read' better against it. I want to see the diorama you create. Great job all around. See you next time.
