I bought my first commander deck after following Rarran's journey through MTG. Loved this game, and thank you to CGB and Voxy for introducing me to magic!
This was probably the best commander game I've ever watched. I don't know if it was a conscious decision to have a super mil and a big dinosaur deck in the pod with group hug and Rarran, but these set of circumstances seemed like a great way to make it likely Rarran got to do stuff. Great Job CGB for setting this up and great deck choices all around. The drama kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Rarran played well and looked like he had fun. What a thrilling game.
I don't usually comment, but this game was an absolute pleasure to watch. It was amazing to see Rarran play commander in person for the first time and enjoy it! And it also showcased a lot of really cool deckbuilding too, especially with the Mindskinner voltron style deck! Thank y'all for doing this, and by extension bringing the Magic and Hearthstone community together!
I think it's a miracle that this game actually turned into something so entertaining. I can't imagine being thrilled when the game barely started and you milled more than half your deck. That's not a good first experience with commander.
Omg we need this group more. I knew this group would have crazy sparks flying but its so much better then i could have ever imagined. They are all bringing out really cool sides of eachother and it makes for a very good game and an amazing show to watch. Also it's veryy good to see cgb and rarren in the same room after so many videos of them talking about this. Thank you and I love you all.

I remember my first time playing rift . Wasnt my first commander game but my first game with a deck I brewed... The table went silent and I was like "wait what did I do?"
@KeithBuhler Yeah, people don't understand how good it is. They know it's strong but until you've cast it, it just feels like something akin All is Dust in a colorless deck. It's so much more brutal though, they lose everything no matter what and you lose nothing. I've cast All is Dust and barely set one or two of the other players back. Even the worst Cyc Rifts tend to put you ahead no matter how poorly things have been going. It's one of the only cards that sometimes feel too powerful for my pod.
The months-long buildup to this episode was huge (ever since Rarran's first appearance on your channel), and it absolutely lived up to the hype. One of the most entertaining EDH games I've ever witnessed, and quite possibly the best pod as well. The chemistry between the four of you was perfect, and I hope there are many many more rematches in the future.
I've been having some awful and stressful two weeks. This game had me rolling over and laughing, to the point I had to pause it for laugh breaks - exactly what I needed. Thank you all!
Yeah, true. What he could've done instead is just have 5 octomancers, since they're tokens that entered that turn. Then he could make 5 copies of future tokens. Not that the rule break or the octomancer army would've mattered, because the board was wiped the next turn anyway.
i know close to nothing about magic but the editing made it easy for me to read cards and understand what was going on and frankly it has been years since i watched a video that i thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. thank you to everyone involved in making this chaotic masterpiece
I don’t know if this was intentional on everyone’s parts or not, but everyone’s deck choices ended up being a perfect storm for Rarran to have a good match where it felt like he got to do a lot of cool stuff. His graveyard-theft-focused deck hit top speed fast by Crim playing a mill deck, CGB giving him extra cards with a group hug deck kept it running, and Voxy played a bunch of splashy, cool, impactful creatures for him to reanimate. Honestly felt like a group effort to make sure his first game was really fun and memorable. Also the politicking was intense, with CGB and Voxy trying to convince Rarran to kill Crim, and Crim making the very convincing argument that he would be a huge asset to help take those two out, and then Voxy and Rarran turning on CGB towards the end. Super dynamic social interactions, it felt like actual politics lol. And ofc the chemistry and energy were off the charts. 100/10 episode. I would almost say I would use this introduce people to the format, but I fear that would set expectations crazy high.
This was a great watch. Everyone was clearly having a fun time and it didnt feel like it was done out of obligation or anything. Refreshing as hell to watch. Also, when CGB cloned Octomancer the gift wouldnt have triggered additional times. He would have had to make aanoctomancer and an octopus to then clone the octopus 2 more times during his end step. Stellar video that I had been excited for for a while!

I love how long in the making this vid was for Rarran. Several videos of build up across 3 channels, from knowing nothing about Magic, learning to judge cards, learning the banned cards of commander, picking a commander (and then picking a different one later, lol), and now. What a journey.

1:26:25 So I believe the ruling is actually that if the player with Monarch dies on another players turn (assuming to do non-combat reasons that wouldn't naturally pass Monarchy) the player who is currently the active player in turn order becomes the Monarch. I think the only way CGB should have become monarch would be if Rarran also died in the wheel "720.4. If the monarch leaves the game, the active player becomes the monarch at the same time as that player leaves the game. Yay. This episode was so good, i didn’t even notice the normal intro transition into the game starting is back. And i’ve wanted that back since it was removed. This episode had everything. Amazing energy and laughs at the table as a good commander game should be.
For anyone not usually up to Group Hug decks. I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the Bumbleflower precon, and whether you decide to upgrade it or not, I think this is one of those decks where WotC smashed it out of the park. Great game, and glad to see the outro editing was as chaotic as the game itself.
Small rules nitpick: if the monarch dies during their own turn, it goes to the next player in turn order, but if they die during someone else's turn, it goes to that player. 722.4: If the monarch leaves the game, the active player becomes the monarch at the same time as that player leaves the game. If the active player is leaving the game or if there is no active player, the next player in turn order becomes the monarch. If no player still in the game can become the monarch, the game continues with no monarch. Great game though!
The reason why it works this way is just funny. You see, passing the monarch on when you take damage is a triggered ability. But if a player dies in combat, they are no longer there when the ability triggers. Abilities of the monarch are owned and controlled by the monarch, meaning that, if they lose the game in the process, an ability controlled by a player who has left the game would trigger, in which case it simply does not. The monarchy would be completely lost in this case! The reason for this rule is to make the monarchy work intuitively when you attack and kill the monarch in combat. If you're attacking, it's your turn. Therefore, making the monarchy pass on to the active player when the monarch leaves the game handles this case gracefully, reintroducing the monarchy into the game when it would otherwise simply disappear.
Watching the 3 different shoulder-devils on Rarran's shoulder trying to simultaneously teach him and manipulate him for their own ways was a great dynamic... and the ending was absolutely peak. Loved it!
I'm sorry, but I'm watching this show to see my favourite commander players: Blake, Shea and Ben! But this episode contains none of them! AND EVEN WORSE, there is no CGB here, on CGB's channel, but there is some guy named Dan! It won't be tolerated and you should be ashamed!
@@fullclip009 You keep commenting about him everywhere in replies., And I thought it was about the confusion about whether it was in his deck. But if your complaint is that he lied about what cards were in hidden information???? Absolutely wild take. How dare someone bluff with their combat tricks! /s
@@fullclip009 no it's not. This is a delusional take. Lying and bluffing are core parts of every hidden information game. When it comes to these games, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a person lying about privileged information. If you think that's a problem... then you seriously need to grow up.
@@fullclip009Grow up. That's not how hidden information games are played. Imagine playing a game of poker and complaining someone said they had a pair when they had a full house... And nobody here cares that you wouldn't want to play with Crim. Get over yourself and these strange faux morals. It read as a kid trying to act superior, like a peacock strutting is feathers. If you aren't, take a minute and reflect why your actions (these constant faux-morality posts in this comment section) would make you look like a kid. Either way, grow up.
So we have Mesa Falcon Guy, Weasel Tunneller, "Screw this, I'm going back to Hearthstone" and Crim... This is a very scary episode... Especially for Rarran... sitting at the same table as Crim... I'd scoop on sight of Crim personally.
Newbie Rarran was running reanimation..... Voxy ran big reanimation targets...... Can you not tell they chose archetypes that support Rarran? CGB was always going to be the problem with his board wipes. The majority of players only go face meaning creatures to win. CGB had enough cards to deal with monsters.
Heard about this happening so often and was waiting for it - and boy was it worth it. One of the most political, chaotic and entertaining rounds of Commander I've ever seen. I need more of this!

Crim's energy in this game is absolutely perfect! You need a player like that to spice it up. That card reading schtick was funny AF.
Wish I could like this video more than once. There are so many priceless moments in this episode it's absolutely WILD.
Noble spoken!-)
Pure pleasure to watch !!!! Crim is my favorite deck brewer !
The ammount of people I'm going to recruit into commander from my other card games by showing this video is gonna be insane lol. Thanks for the banger
@therealax6 good point
I was really pulling for Crim. Love the Mindskinner. Awesome game!
This episode had me laughing so hard people were looking at me concerned at work hahaha that energy was magnificent!
Crim, that may have been the smoothest, most hilarious arcane denial of all time. I applaud you 😂😂😂
The dynamic was peak entertainment, but my god, bringing a mill deck to a player's first commander game is diabolical on a whole other level.
I was waiting for this game for a long time and it didn't disappoint. This was my favorite commander game video and probably my favorite video by CGB.
This was absolutely fantastic, I cannot wait for the next adventures of the Rarran Cinemagic Universe
Not even 5 minutes in and it is already one of the best videos on this channel
We’ve been waiting SO LONG for the Rarran debut!!
I watched all four of these guys separate for a long time, it makes me so happy they are all great friends together. This is so dope.
11/10 game, the politics went crazy in this one absolutely love it xD
Such a great ensemble of players and an epic match! Glad you got Rarran to try paper magic and I hope he keeps doing these appearances
I don't care who is on the show, Ben is always the winner in my heart
Watching the 3 different shoulder-devils on Rarran's shoulder trying to simultaneously teach him and manipulate him for their own ways was a great dynamic... and the ending was absolutely peak. Loved it!
So sweet of Crim to support the new player's reanimator deck by playing mill....
I laughed so many times. 🤣 The dynamic between Voxy, Crim & CGB is entertaining. This game showed so much betrayal & politicking. 😂
Crim is so funny lol.
MILL EM ALL
lmao having 2 villains and babys first commander is such a good vibe, love the banter, makes for an entertaining watch!
Ah dude so cool that you guys finally got together for this.
Absolutly worth the HYPE! Love the collab, you guys have a great synergy!
The Ending... THE ENDING, OMG
One of the best commander games on TH-cam! Great job to everyone involved!
This game reminded me why it's so important for tables to have a player like Crim :-) what a wonderful treat.
@@fullclip009 lying about hidden information is part of the game, they have absolutely no reason to believe him
@@fullclip009 You keep commenting about him everywhere in replies., And I thought it was about the confusion about whether it was in his deck. But if your complaint is that he lied about what cards were in hidden information???? Absolutely wild take.
How dare someone bluff with their combat tricks! /s
@@fullclip009 your sensitive, it’s a card game designed to win. It’s poker with monsters and spells. Get over it, hiding info is part of the game
If you are a kid, that's not how the world works. If you aren't, take a minute and reflect why your actions (these constant faux-morality posts in this comment section) would make you look like a kid.
Either way, grow up.
Honestly CGB I think I have found my new go to video to show people commander. This was great
Absolutely loved this episode! Amazing! Funny and Entertaining!
Rarran is such a vibe! Hope that he enjoys the format so we can see more :D
So we have Mesa Falcon Guy, Weasel Tunneller, "Screw this, I'm going back to Hearthstone" and Crim...
This is a very scary episode...
Especially for Rarran... sitting at the same table as Crim... I'd scoop on sight of Crim personally.
He just met the guy, he doesn't know enough Crim lore 😂
This was THE best commander game I've watched, all channels included!
Crim is the type of guy who brings Kaervek, the Punisher, to the kill-on-sight commander game but plays Mindskinner mill against a newbie.
Seeing mill on TH-cam commander games is so rare… what a privilege to be represented!
finally Rarran , and crim and VOXY ..GOD like guests
never watched a game of commander before and excited to go through your back catalogue now !! (even tho theyre rarran-less)
Cgb vs crim how did the budget allow for two of the most prominent control mages
Heard about this happening so often and was waiting for it - and boy was it worth it. One of the most political, chaotic and entertaining rounds of Commander I've ever seen. I need more of this!
This is the first game of Commander I’ve ever watched and I don’t know what happened but this looks like a war crime.
This was one of the best Commander games I've watched. Big fan of the RCU coming together at last to play my favorite game. Also Crim's "Hold this for me" Counter spell play was the funniest thing I totally want to steal that move.
