Jigging raps catch everything. Fish. Nets. Fingers. Cords. Floors. Chairs. A jigging rap could hook god itself should it exist. By far the most dangerous lure I've ever fished with.
I respectfully disagree on mono. I won't go back. I use a medium light with braid and feel I hook more fish with braid. I use different brands of glide baits for different drop rates. Yesterday they wanted Shadow raps. I don't feel I lose that many fish. The medium light rod is my shock absorber. Plastics on a heavy glide head can be killer too. Fished just the same. Great video!!!
Most of the year it depends on the day and the mood of the fish, but definitely seem like waaaaay more get the right attitude once that water temp is in the mid-50s or so. Hope you have a great fall!
Awesome stuff! Educational, informative, and entertaining. I've been using a Cumings red, white, and blue net.....has a white hoop, making it easier to see to see the hooks, IMO.
Thanks man! I've seen those red, white and blue nets a couple times now. They look cool. What the net material like? Nylon-y, or fabric-y, or rubber-y hahaha.
@@TargetWalleye It's rubber....not terribly heavy. I'm seeing more and more walleye boats with them. Cumings is nice to work with, too, even though they're in Michigan. lol
I got a shallow rubber net, four foot handle that we call The Wok, that i bought years ago, can't remember where or when. I can't find it online. But, it's perfect...and i have to keep an eye on it or I'm afraid I'll leave in Canada, it's perfect for caring fish up to the boat house for cleaning and might be left behind. I'll keep looking.
Have you tried using Jigging Raps in a river system? I'd be interested to get your take on that. It seems we have so many trees and other things to snag on for them to be real productive around here.
I only fish rivers a handful of times a year, so far from an expert. I've caught some fish on Jigging Raps, but I've had way more success using Rippin' Raps. Jigging Raps are silent, it's more of a visual bite unless you're hovering it right in front of them. Rippin' Raps give off a ton of vibration and sound with their rattle chambers, so it's easier for fish to track them down in rivers and water that isn't as clear. Blade baits can also be REALLY good in river systems, especially in colder water.
Thank you! It's a fun way to attack them. Like anything you've got tot play around with it - some days they don't want the super-aggressive stuff, then the next it's all they want!
@bdbdwd 23 hours ago Just picked up a St Croix Legend Tournament 7ft MF 5/16 -7/8 . I have been pretty much a Shimano guy Sustains and Stradics . Reading up on the Abu Revo Rocket has my interest . After watching you fish with your set up i wonder if you are satisfied with the Abu Rocket ? With the 7.6 to 1 gear ratio makes me suspect of the durability ? No one else makes a spinner that fast . Also a Japan version is available all black . I own several Vanfords from Japan they have the shallow spool not available in the US . Couldn't find much info on the Japan Rocket but seems it comes with shallow spool and a different handle . For jigging rap series typically not making very long cast so no need for a deep spool . Appreciate your thoughts , Thanks Don
Do you let the jigging rap hit bottom, then snap up? And do you let it hit bottom again similar to working a blade bait? I don't have forward facing sonar. Thank you.
Fishermen watch these videos to learn something, so keep talking. Sprinkle in a fish catch now and then to keep us wanting more. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much! I agree, it drives me nuts when people don't include the specifics or any details in the videos. Stuff as basic as depth, type of structure, time of year...so we can try to duplicate in our own area. 👊
@@shadrap1000 I always run a small #10 VMC Rolling Swivel up above for line twist. And then a short fluorocarbon leader to a #0 VMC Crankbait Snap for swapping colors and sizes.
I just don’t understand how you and Boley catch fish that consistently on raps with water temps in the upper 50s, especially in shallow. They seem to not want anything to do with them once water temps get below 65 up here (Sask). I’ve tried and tried, but they don’t hit them anymore once it cools.
@@erics667 it is definitely more of a vertical bite here, but it’s pretty tough to fish raps vertically when the fish are shallow. You have to pitch to them at that point.
I think it's good for you Sask crowd to experience some tough fishing once in a while 😂😂😂 because all I ever see are these crazy 30" to 33" SK freaks posted all the time and here I'm pumped to just catch a few 15-18" fish hahahaha. It's super interesting tho how bites are similar in some areas and way different in other, despite similar conditions.
I definitely have days where they run from them. But then the next day they run TO them. I always play with it to try and read the mood of the fish because it's hard to pin down what kind of a day it is. But this time of year more and more seem to have the right kind of attitude. All that being said it's tough to beat a Ned Rig all year-round! 👊
These walleye in Tennessee is totally different in the fall ,,,,you can't get up with them they leve the humps and the points,,,,,I thank they Suspend after the bait
A whole new world over there! But yes I could see that, we have a ton that do that around here as well. Nomads that are tough to track down because they're just roaming and following bait that's not relating to anything.
Definitely dont want to watch you catch 37 fish. You hit on the head, at least for me. I watch for the information to become a better angler. You've definitely have done that Brett. Keep up the informative videos. Much appreciated , thanks.

Are you tying directly to the jig or using a snap swivel?

I keep a second, smaller sized thick rubber net just for walleye and smaller lakers.
Good idea. I cannot stand the tangles when there's another fish down there and waiting lol.

Boys get on the blade baits!
Especially when the water temps drop a few more degrees 🤫
Hey Brett, What size mono are you using for jigging raps? I have a similar rod that I plan on switching from braid to mono soon.
He said at about 5:50 he uses 10# suffix advanced mono.

I would much rather lift 14 lbs every time I catch a fish than digging my jigging raps out of nets every time I catch a fish.
