    2019....just before covid.... Did your dad's school at Knockhill with my dad... My father had 2 piece leathers that didn't zip together. Your dad loaned us Taz's spare 1 piece!! What a legend, saved the day! 🤘😍🤘

    Agree totally on not pushing it in the last session of the day - that's when I lowsided on my track day, in the sixth and final session! The other recommendation I'd make regarding hydration and nutrition - really you want to get on top of this in the days leading up to your track day as well. So don't just start drinking water on the day - have a bottle with you in the days prior, and keep at it. Your pee should be almost clear on the morning of the track day.

    Terrific insight, thanks Niall.
    I did my first (and only) track at New Jersey Motorsports Park in 2015 on a school supplied BMW1000RR. Whilst I found the acceleration to be impressive, coming from a Triumph Explorer) it was the braking performance that amazed me the most. As I approached the end of the straight my brain kept saying 'brake you fool' but I knew I could brake much later based on previous laps. It was a battle to overcome the survival instinct and just trust the bike and my own limited ability. Great fun!

    It has always been a delight to watch you three MacKenzie boys racing, and I have always enjoyed listening to what each of you have had to say about and around motorbike racing. Go the MacKenzie Clan: much appreciated.

    Ha Ha Niall, we were at a meeting together at RAF Ouston (Albemarle barracks) back in the day. You won the 350 proddy and I won the 250 proddy class. Practice was mixed, I dont remember you taking your time to learn the circuit, you were going like ten men when you passed me lol. One point if I may. before I raced I did a couple of mornings at Croft, my local circuit. It was called machine testing, no instructors, few other people so no one to follow. I found it best to do 6 or 7 laps then stop and think what didnt feel right, or where I could improve a line, brake later etc. Go out, do another few laps and think again. As you allude to, riding is tiring when you arent used to it. Anyway, I followed your career and others from those early days. Well done.

    Great tips Sir, i am glad you mentioned food coma because i never used to eat much during the day at my local track. But then i went down to Philip Island for a double header and on the second day i couldnt resist the fantastic hot meals on offer at the canteen. I even had pudding.
    Next session second lap i lobbed into the gravel trap coming out of the Hayshed.
    Never do pudding at a track day.😋

    Great advice, I always told myself if I had 5 good sessions, I didn't go out for the last one, as the temptation is to " give it extra beens" because you haven't got another one booked for weeks or months! I would also add don't listen to local advice/ fear mongering, me an my mate were talking to a newbie at Oulton unknowingly putting the fear of God in him regarding Island bend. First fast lap, straight off, wrote a very nice cbr600 vr rep plus all his vr replica leathers and helmet, I'm sure Jamie Whit and the late shuey had a chuckle in the garage 🤣

    Great video. I have only about 15 track days and am still unsure when to move my butt off to the inside. Many coaches say to move on the straight before hitting the brakes. However Taylor in another video indicated he was moving right after going on the brakes, I like that better as an older rider I can use the brake force to help me move and save energy. Also, I have a long car racing history and like to be "squared up" and not off to one side when I hit the brakes hard. Comments? Thanks

    • @tmac77
      @tmac77  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either or is fine, the main thing to think about is making sure you are there before you are getting close to the apex. If you do it close to the apex it can upset the bike.

    Tarran used a brake lever on the left side for his rear brake when I saw his BSB bike a couple of years back, what's the idea behind that? Is it because you can't always reach the rear brake if your knee's pointed out in a right hand turn? Taylor used a thumb brake, right?
