Hello and 10 out of 10. My tank is still off but refurbish nearly complete. As ever, I’ve pulled off all the other associated fill and vent parts and cleaned them up, too. I had a blockage in the vent piping and filter (orange thing) and will be fitting additional plumbing for my diesel heater (which is currently heating the garage). Also, on mine the wire holding pieces were toast, like yours. Will be fitting some adhesive-backed cable-tie pads instead and have removed the old metal clips as now useless. Take a look at my posts on the Super Custom forum as I’ve posted a few pictures of my tank refresh there. If you can’t find them pm me over there. Am also refreshing the upper and lower tank pads with some non-expanded neoprene as the old ones had just about turned to dust. I might replace the breather hose as one end is poor but the fill is great. I’m really impressed with the clever design of the tank (inc anti-slosh flap, breather, fill mechanism, pickup assembly and sender, all so very well designed to my eyes). Also on the forum I’ve posted some pics of the new pickup and return pipe assembly and how it’s better and different to the original, especially for heater plumbed on the return, which is the way I’m going. Corrosion on the solid pipes near the flex hose hook-up were my reason for a new sender unit. The better disign was just a happy accident. My tank probably won’t go back on until I’ve sorted the rear suspension, which is still a way off, plus some other extensive fettling nearby to fix. I saw your post looking for ideas about a tank without the spare tyre cut out, but I’ve no knowledge. I also see clearance issue with the OEM arrangement but the OEM tank has a lot in its favour. I’ll be fitting a towbar and note the issues there, too so thanks for the video. Cheers!

Thanks! My friend who was helping me drop the tank seemed impressed by how clean it was. How come yours is in such poor shape? Just overall rust issues with the van?

Im curious if you could hydroform your tank with pressurized water, essentially taking out the recess where the spare tire goes, and create more fuel volume?

I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t want to risk causing a leak..

hey man, good video! I can't locate the fuse for the fuel pump on my 1999 Hiace. Do you have an idea on where it is on yours?
    Cheers

Hi there, about to do the same on 1994 LH125 to replace the sender (there's no hole in the floor unfortunately). I noted you removed the tank when up on ramps, but when installing just tyres on the ground - your thoughts whether can remove the tank without ramps? Also interested in the adaptors used with the pump - i have the same one : )

Hey maz I had it up on ramps because I was putting in new rear shackles to achieve lift. This is why I pulled the tank. You can do it on the ground for sure! Not sure about the adapters, just various brass nipples I had in the shop just tried until I found ones that fit

Hey man, awesome video. I'm about to start this mission on my own Hiace and was wondering what kind of grease you used in the electrical connection as there is a lot of back and forth on the internet between the dielectric vs white lithium etc. Any advice?

Thanks! Not to get political or anything.. this happens to be dielectric grease. I don’t know the difference, and not sure if it’s even necessary but since I’ll probably never open it up again I figure it can’t hurt.

Hello, I live in Turkey, I have a UK safe 1998 model 2L Toyota hi acem, the tank float cable is broken, can you tell me where this cable is?

If it’s the same as mine then it’s attached to the float on the top of the tank🤷🏼‍♂️

What tow bar do you have there? Looking for one for my 94 super custom

It’s a generic hitch and used 3/16 pieces on the sides with offset holes to bolt on to the sides of the frame
