Is this the method you use? What products do you recommend?

I needed to hear this. My first custom was stressing me out.
Despite it being my first and only custom for some time to come I'm shooting the piss out of it with nothing but#9 and nylon

My recommendation for cleaning: bore scope. You’ll figure out what works. You may progress past nylon brushes and non-abrasives. The scope will tell you.

A bronze brush will not hurt your barrel you can't get that baked on carbon ring out without one I'm a pipe Welder by trade so I know a hell of a lot about metal property and their is no way that a bronze brush will hurt a ss barrel

There’s nothing wrong with a bronze cleaning brush. It will NOT scratch or damage your bore.
Just make sure to buy a quality bronze brush that has a brass center wire that has a rounded end. A steel center wire, especially one with a clipped/sharp end, will do damage.

Each to their own. This is just Brian’s preferred method, and clearly there’s nothing wrong with only using a nylon brush too.

Exactly right the only thing that scratches the barrel is the trash left on the brass brush

Well looking at all the videos out there about cleaning your rifle from multiple well known or professional shooters. There's so much conflicting information I've come to the conclusion it doesn't really matter what you use as long as you use a bore guide and good rod thats the one constant. You can clean as much or as little, with copper brush or without, with solvents or without, with abrasives or without. Do what makes you happy and get the accuracy you desire.

I understand this. There's more than one way even on this channel. I like to present information from knowledgeable people and just let folks decide for themselves.

If you ever shot one of Brian’s builds and saw how well they perform you would probably trust him. He builds some great shooting rifles.

@@timelapseartwork5490 It's not that i don't trust him. Its that it doesn't really matter what or how you clean your rifle was my conclusion. You get the F class boys using abrasives after every outing, benchrest shooters cleaning alot after like 10 shots, you get the PRS shooters saying nylon brushes only and no need for hard solvents and cleaning after 300 shots etc the list goes on and they are all accurate at the top end of their sport.

🇺🇲1967 Vietnam, an air drop of critical supplies , one is a crate of M16A1 rifles. . . Break in, is a head shot at the enemy.
Bored people with no gunsmithing skills, but lots of enthusiasm that feel something has to be done.

Don't forget to REMOVE and clean that muzzle brake and crown, preferably every time you clean the bore. Heavy build up in this area can degrade accuracy as much or more than a fouled bore. Be very gentle cleaning the crown, nylon brush only. Area 419 recommends Bore Tech C4 Carbon remover for their brakes to maintain the finish. I've used this product and it works well.

Who sells a fourth extension to the cleaning rod. My cleaning rod will not exit the muzzle on a Weatherby 300 Mag (26") 🤔 w/a brake

Tipton makes a 44” carbon fiber rod. I have one by the bench right now.

I've done all kinds of stuff. Iosso triple action oil and bore paste with their brushes, Shooters Choice or Hoppes 9 with a bronze brush, and currently Boretech Eliminator with an Iosso nylon brush. For the most part they've all done the job. The abrasives clean the fastest and make the shortest work out of the hard carbon at the breech end of the barrel (and for removing carbon rings), but letting Boretech C4 soak in there for a while with a patch over a brush, a patch on a Parker Hale style jag, or a mop, works fantastic as well

Haven't had an issue using boreshine, brass brushes, clp and regular patches. One rifle made almost 10k before it went over half moa (hand loads that weren't frying the throat).

Yep I feel like cleaning rifles is one of those things where you’ll get 10 different answers when you ask 10 diff people.

Do you finish the cleaning process by running a clean patch with a little oil on it to prevent the barrel from rusting

If you plan to shoot later, like in preparation for match the following day or so, a clean dry patch is fine. If you plan to let the rifle set a while, 1 pass with an oil patch is good practice.

Nothing wrong with isso bore paste if used correctly. I have a problem with a carbon ring because I use staball powder, it's dirty but I can find it. I've tried everything to get rid of it and nothing would work. I had excess pressure at a match because of this that cost me alot of points. Started using isso with a borescope, only using it paste where it's needed and had no issues

I use JB bore paste on carbon rings, nothing works but those type products, never ever had a problem

I use Boretech C4 and an appropriately sized nylon (Iosso) brush to get out my carbon rings. Sometimes I'll put a patch over a brush and soak it with C4 and leave it in there overnight then scrub it out the next day. Never been hard to get it out
