    There is something glorious at this farm, where sheep are happy to be on a lead, frogs are given a hand up to be re-homed and geese chat with each other about rail tracks being in the way, whilst off to inspect a field of elephant garlic. Seems like Eden was moved over to Ireland and the Tree of Life replanted.

    (edit) I'm referring to the making of a rail crossing on the southwest side of the dry shed seen on Tim's track layout maps in past videos.
    A turntable there would have also worked while allowing to turn around wagons, but would have resulted in digging up a lot of soil for a foundation in a tight space between a fence and another set of rails. if there is a need for a turntable for the railway in the future it can be assembled on the other side of the hopper-shoot so the foundation can be a pile of spare bricks with the whole mechanism that the (mostly made of wood) table spins on is accessible to repair.

    For the crossing perhaps one could add a sort of inner-rail with a certain spacing and fill the space between the inner rails with dirt or something to give a more even and/or bigger area on which animals and humans can walk over.
    And to save on materials the inner-rails could be made from plywood instead of steel, though they probably wouldnt last long if that crossing has a lot of traffic. Hmm..
    The secondary idea behind it is that the flanges of the wheels don't hit the piece of wood you put in there and possibly derail the train/cart

    In real railways the rail isnt directly attatched to the sleepers, its just held in by friction. To save having to re drill sections when they are curved and to make manufacture easily you could try to emulate that in the design.
    I was thinking of a wooden block with a slit just bigger than the width of the rail in it. Provided it is short enough to clear the flandge of the wheel and of a dense enough wood so it doesnt split.
    It could also be designed so it has wooden wedges (keys) that clamp the rail tight in the slot so it cant move.

    Brilliant - I can't wait to see a small steam loco assisting on your farm.

    • @quintrankid8045
      @quintrankid8045 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would like to see that too, but realist that I am I looked at some prices for 15" steam locos and I'm afraid they come at a high price. Not to mention that a 15" steam loco, even a small one would weigh quite a bit. And if made from scratch it's a project of many years. I suspect we're going to have to settle for a diesel mounted on a flat with some sort of chain drive. Or maybe even battery and electric motor? Maybe leave the chain driven truck/bogie fixed and if there is a second truck, let the second truck turn? Three axles with blind drivers in the middle? Let us hope that there will be an air compressor hooked up to a multi-chime whistle.
      However, I once read a science fiction story about a steam engine made almost entirely of wood, save the boiler, I think they used leather hoses. I assume the boiler pressure was quite low. Probably less time to machine the wood. Maybe use sheet metal for bearing surfaces?

A warning like "Beware of Dog" in Legal terms you acknowledge the danger of a dog and if anything happens on your property concerning a dog someone can sue you - so Beware of the Trains ... What about a sign that reads "If you're concerned about being run down by a train on this property, We Do Toot seconds before - - - For Deaf Visitors we do Rumble" - As a Lawyer I'm having some real issues finding a case against you - I mean Deaf people feel through their feet right - so no problem with my sign - where as your sign is beginning to look like "We Got Ya"
