I can't imagine what you all went through with the accident and for you all to be so positive throughout Gentry's recovery, it's inspiring! I work in the surgery department at my local hospital and going through all of those surgeries is no joke! So glad that things have turned out well for you all!

I also have a traumatic brain injury and have ended up with “post-concussion syndrome.” Are you under the care of a Concussion specialist? They are good at helping to coordinate your care and track your progress. Vision therapy with an OT is helping me to process the world around me and coordinate it with my eyes. My memory also sucks and general processing has slowed. Your world changes and you just get to keep trying to heal! Wishing you the best on your recovery brother! 🤛🏻

I am struggling so bad, I’m only 24. I’m not sure what has happened but within the last 4 -5 years I’m having the EXACT same symptoms as you. I’m having a hard time focusing on what people are saying. They can talk to me and I don’t process anything they’re saying. I understand most of what they mean but it goes in one ear and out of the other.. my memory is terrible. I forget everything, names, directions, instructions, birthdays, its the most frustrating and depressing thing knowing that your brain is having a hard time. There’s nothing you can do about it. I feel so dumb, like I’m out of it all the time. Everyone who knows me knows I miss the joke, knows my memory is bad, knows It takes a little for things to click in my head. I’m “slow” but in a cute way… it’s not cute to me tho. I have really bad insurance and definitely cannot afford to have treatment and figure it out. It effects me daily and gives me social anxiety Bc of it.
I think gentry might be dyslexic, when he said he doesn’t want to read a long passage because he won’t remember anything, that’s a sign of dyslexia. I’m dyslexic and I have that and comprehension, if someone gives me instructions I can’t be doing anything else I have to have my full attention on what that person is saying. Brain damage obviously happened but I think he should get checked for dyslexia. 1 in every 5 people are dyslexic and if he is the boys and Alyssa might be to.
Dyslexia is also an audio processing issue, which is something a lot of people don’t realize in themselves. It’s all interconnected. My daughter was recently diagnosed with Dyslexia and we are learning my husband, his mom, and my dad all have it too!
Also I appreciate this comment because we tried to read a chapter book to my daughter tonight. She lost interest one page in and almost started crying. I asked her if she’d let me try slower speaking and she lasted three pages then asked if we could never read it again :’(
@@fzzypurpleturtle yes that’s true I totally forgot about that, my mother is the one that knows the most about it, I didn’t have as hard of a time when someone is ready allowed but when someone is giving instructions is another area I struggle in. What my mom did to help me with dyslexia is a program called Barton by Susan Barton I don’t know if it’s specially for dyslexic people but it’s what I used and things changed within the first few weeks of doing the program, my mom also tutored a very severally dyslexic girl and now she’s readying higher than I am. If you have the time and money to do it I highly recommend it.
