Im a Vet student and I can't express how happy these videos make me, genuinely, seeing people actually taking the time to help their animals adjust Instead of throwing them in a room together...
my cat is sixteen and we got a new baby one and she absolutely hated him. we introduced them after they got to know each others scents and she hissed and always ran away. it got to the point where she wouldn’t leave my bed even to go to the litter box or to eat food. she lost a ton of weight so we had to give little binky back-luckily he’s at a loving family and we check up on him.
They may have been batting at each other through the net but from what I seen it didn’t seem aggressive. No tail raise no hissing or growling seem more playful.
My older cat still hissing when my new one come too close to her, but the little one really have no fear and keep trying to get closer to her, i just hope their introduction not too long 😅

I've never had a problem bringing a new cat into the fold. My cats are all super chill and have always embraced the new cat. I'm not saying I'm right, just lucky :D
@@sushi513 My babies are overly loved, I don't think they know how to be mean. I think it also helps that my first 2 were siblings. I've never brought a full grown cat into the mix either, always a kitten. My momma cat has always loved a new kitten.
My cat managed to escape as one of our main doors wasn't properly locked and spent 4 months outside being the longest she ever managed to escape, we rescued a under one year old cat who's older owner couldn't take care of him due to her having no signs of coming back. unfortunately she came back very abruptly at the window and their introduction ended up being ruined due to her frantically running into the house and urinating on herself due to the stress of a random cat in her home. we managed to get her stress down by keeping them seperate and making them eat together slowly but they still absolutely don't get along and I doubt they ever will properly due to their awful introduction. just shows how important it is to do it right and not just try to get lucky. It's getting a little better everyday.
Screen doors are actually amazing for introducing cats! We used one with our cats, when it was scent alone my younger one would hiss and get super mad. I think letting them see and sniff each other while having the freedom to just leave into a safe environment really helped. I can picks them both up at the same time now and they love playing together!
You are one of the only content creators I've seen who has shown responsible kitty introduction!! Most other people use the stress of improperly introducing their cats as content- which isn't serious in the long run necessarily but I do appreciate a channel that uses their platform for good
I was super lucky with my cat and new kitten! From the moment Momo (the kitten) entered our house Jack (the adult cat) wanted nothing more than to be with her and take care of her! She was very hesitant and scared at first but through monitored visits and playtime they became best friends so so fast! It was really incredible and I’m so proud of Jack for how gentle and patient he was with her!!

My brown tabby girl turned 1 in July 2022. That same month we adopted an 8 week old longhair orange kitten. It took them all of 3 days to start cuddling with and grooming each other. We did the scent, screen door, and food methods, but they just moved really quickly for us because our cats were just super eager and interested. To be fair, my older cat was and is the gentlest, kindest, sweetest cat in the whole world. She loves belly rubs from anyone and everyone! My kitten is now a huge floofy boy but they still have the older sister-baby brother dynamic. And he is also extremely sweet and gentle, hasn't hissed or scartched a day in his life. He learned from the very best!
I have Chihuahuas.. basically cats in dog suits. I brought my older chi to pick out with me her puppy mate then lots of treats during positive meetings.

My older cat is a sweetie but he screeched and hissed when I first showed him his lil bro. It took some time of keeping the little one out of his space, but they love each other now. They work together to torment us and the older one washes the younger one like he’s his kid!
I LOVEEEEW CATSSSS. I had a cat once in a different house from rn and when we moved to this house he wasnt comfortable or smth so he tried to jump off the balcony TWICE, so we gave him to my relatives to live a happy life in a huge house with a garden and even more catssss

It's okay if they just tolerate each others existence. So it's important to introduce them like shown in the video ❤
I just opened the cat carrier and my let new kitten out and he climbed all over my 8 month old kitten. They were best friends. My newest kitten I kept her in my room for three days and then let her free roam the house. The older cats love her. The slow approach is good too but introducing a kitten is much easier than introducing a full grown cat. I introduced a cat to my other cat and that took maybe a week. He's pretty chill and she is very friendly
The kitten reminds me of my cat Michael who passed away a couple of days ago. She was a beautiful cat, and this video reminds me of her and her also passed siblings with their adoptive mama who took them in when their mom passed. I love this video ❤
My oldest cat is calm and chill, we bought a cat and we introduced them immediately. My cat was just smelling him and they cuddled 2 hours after the introduction, no hissing or fighting😂

My mom has a glass door seperating her solarium and kitchen. That's how we introduced my cats by sight. But, we had to transfer the newbies to that solarium. They stayed in my sister's room for a couple weeks any other time til they got bigger and the others got used to smelling/seeing them.
this really is the best way, we introduced our solitary, grumpy old man cat to our new kitten this way, and they are the best of friends now, they cant get enough of each other
my cats got used to the kitten pretty quickly, after like the first day our youngest one (2 year) started grooming him and laying with him. And the eldest cat took him about a week to get comfortable. It really depends on your cat but not to stress them out
Honestly in my experience, unless the adult cat is particularly mean or anxious, introducing a kitten to it will generally go well regardless. It's still always a good idea to do it slowly just incase, but usually the adult can tell that it's a baby and won't try to fight it. The last time I got a kitten, I introduced her to my adult cat immediately after one brief scent-swap and they were cuddling on the same day. Granted, the older cat is a therapy cat, extremely chill and used to other animals so most probably wouldn't bond so quickly, but it can happen. Introducing adult cats to other adult cats is where you have to be super careful though, they usually will fight and it can get very messy unless done extremely slowly and with alot of patience.
Your cat is also very calm. Not too skiddish, not too protective. Very sweet, so know not all cats are like yours. Some are little turds, and some wouldn't go anywhere near something new, like a kitten
I feel like I have seen this video like 2 years ago. Anyway, when we got a new kitten for our ginger cat (he already passed away), we followed these instructions and it didn't even take 2 weeks. Our ginger cat is already friendly towards other animals. But these tips really work.
An important note for everyone at home. It’s very easy to sensitize an animal instead of desensitizing. For example, your dog is a bit iffy with their food. So every time they eat you mess with their food whenever you put it down. The goal is to make them used to their food being messed with, and it means good things (food) come with this specific handling. However this is not the case. It makes the dog expect their food to be messed with every single time and they have to protect it, and increases the rate and severity of resource guarding. The same thing can happen in this scenario. If the cat truly isn’t comfortable, but is starving it will associate food with a negative experience (being around a cat when it doesn’t want to), which in turn can increase irritability and aggression to the other cat. When trying to desensitize an animal to anything, it’s really important to take a step back and think “is this helping, or could I actually be hurting.”
I got lucky, one hour of the two bickering and hissing (under some supervision to make sure it didn’t come to anything too bad) and they were and have forever been the best fluffy buddies

I think it is quite normal like when you meet new kids from your friends and family and slowly get used to it
Yep.... Older cats can recognize kitten, and after a day or two of realizing that the scent isnt harmful, usually warm up ...

I did the same with my old cat and new puppy. They sleep next to each other if the weather is cold and great each other when they meet.
