    Even though they keep comparing the Tremor to the Raptor for the price, the Tremor is a better deal for me personally. Being able to go on trails where the Raptor would be uncomfortable while still being able to haul a bed full of wood in the back is very appealing.

    When you're into towing and trucks, this one of the best channels in youtube in my opinion. Love the real world testing. When I tow I want to know the rear sag/squat when hooked, payload, mpg, engine/transmission temp, road grade and elevation which was all covered in the video.

  • @IKnewMickey
    @IKnewMickey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    In 2013 when I bought an F150 with the towing pkg it came with 373's and the 6 speed trans. Nowadays 373 gears are fine for towing with the 10 speed.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I think the 10 speed at a 3.31 might give better gearing than the old 6 w/ 3.73s. But people still gravitate to the more aggressive rear end because OEMs keep bumping up their towing #s higher and higher.

    The 5.5ft bed is actually great for towing visibility and turning. My favorite tow vehicle is an F350 SD regular cab dually with an 8 ft bed because you had excellent visibility all around anything but a 5th wheel.

      I've been saying this for years. You can have a 3.55 or 4.10.
      With the 3.55 you can tow in 8th gear and have good mpg unloaded.
      The 4.10 you can tow in tenth but the mpg suffers unloaded.

    The number of brake applications is an indicator but it’s really about heat rejection. If the brakes can dump the heat well then more applications is irrelevant. Conversely if you only hit the brakes once and the brakes overheat that is bad. Measure the brake rotor temps too

  • @aaronw8606
    @aaronw8606 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Can you set it and forget it at the top of the Ike? Thought you guys were going to start running the Ike with cruise control enabled. I was looking forward to this, especially on the downhill, considering that most vehicles will auto downshift to control speed. I would like to see how capable the truck is in managing its speed through the transmission with the least amount of input from the driver. And no, coasting down the Ike hoping the transmission holds your speed isn't the same thing. If you do try this methodology, you'll have to adjust your break point for over-speed as most won't downshift until 5-7mph over the set point.

    • @txshirle
      @txshirle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed. Coasting downhill is a measure of gravity, wind resistance and internal friction. I don’t understand why they continue to count break applications. Even more an issue with a diesel with engine breaking.

    • @cordellroberson532
      @cordellroberson532 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      because adaptive cruise equipped trucks use their brakes until they over heat and then suddenly shut off.
      it isn't coasting, its using the engine as an air pump to slow the combo.
      finally, you aren't supposed to tow with cruise control in teh mountains as stated in the manuals even in 2021.

My 2019 F150 FX4 Lariat with Max Tow and the 3.5 EcoBoost has 47000 miles and is underperforming already on power and fuel economy which I attribute to early wear-out. Fuel economy is off a good 3mpg from what it got when new and when I tow it is working way harder than it used to. Of the 47000 miles, about 6000 miles are towing a 6000 lb travel trailer, the rest is about 70% highway, 30% city. Chevy needs to offer a front electric locker on the Trailboss along with 33's and a metal front skidplate that warps up the front bumper. And the Zr2 needs 35's standard... Just a thought. An optional supercharged engine on the ZR2 would make it perfect

      This is why I wish Ford kept making the F250 Tremor in the XLT level. But I’m guessing that’s why they stopped. It’s over $70k for a F250 Tremor with the diesel and a few options that compare with the $68k F150. But for a few thousand lots of people will compare them.

Tow haul may not be smart enough to kick down since there’s technically plenty of power. Also locking into one gear means the torque converter should lock up too so won’t allow heat to built in the transmission fluid.
