Thank you for what I think is the most comprehensive and succinct summary of the various common vision correction procedures currently available, as well as the best ages and conditions for potential candidates. I have worn either glasses or contacts since I was 10 years old. I'm now 65, and ever since I had cataract surgery (PanOptix multi-focal IOL in each eye) about a year ago, I can now see well enough to do about 95% of my daily activities without any corrective lenses! It's a very liberating feeling. And THE VIVID COLORS! Absolutely AMAZING immediately after surgery when the memory of the muted colors I HAD been seeing is still fresh in my mind! Also, a good friend of mine, in her 30s, is currently planning to get LASIK done next year. I think she'll be very happy too. Your summary nicely aligns with both my and her visual situations.
Thanks for this excellent and informative video again. Question, around 5:20, you speak about people mid forties and into their fifties, recommending that these people wait for their vision to stabilize before doing any kind of surgery (LASIK or refractive lens exchange). Why is this? I understand for LASIK because if the natural lens continues to change after LASIK then your vision will change and you might need glasses again. But if you get an IOL then doesn't the lens stop evolving, stabilizing your vision? Why not get this at 45?
Hi there, it depends on the eye - how extensive was the retina surgery, how dense was the cataract, is there any known lens instability after the surgery? In general, having had a vitrectomy makes the surgery higher risk than a routine cataract surgery, and the risk profile depends on those factors.
I just went through that 1 year ago , had a retina tear with multiple breaks that was fix thanks to master at his craft (retina specialist) he put a gas bubble in my eye, he told me the gas bubble will and did accelerate my already existing cataract. So 3 months later after the gas bubble exited my eye and retina stabilized ,my ophthalmologist performed cataract surgery in the same eye, surgery went well ,but 1 month after I developed cystoid macular edema (CME) which is swelling of the retina Dr put me on drops and it slowly went away after 4 months then came back 2 months after i was off the drops but only went back on the drops for 1 month. Overall not too bad

I am a 78 yr old male that has been wearing Progressive Glasses most of my life and have no problem continuing to do so ! it's time for me to get Cataract Surgery and i do have astigmatism. If I choose to just do the standard manual surgery and non premium lens will i still be able continue using progressive glasses ?

Hi, I had mono vision surgery for cataracts at the same time he reshaped my astigmatism. A few years later I had to get the clearing procedure. Then I needed to get my retinas reattached. In my early 50s. Now in my 60s I'm having vision problems. Also found out I'm diabetic. It is under control. Is there any hope? Or am I just going to lose my eye sight?. I was told that once I had the retina surgery I would be good for the rest of my life. Yes I still see floaters. My eyes are dry. When I go for exams they tell me everything is good. But I have trouble with distance and close up now. I wouldn't recommend mono vision to anyone. Wish I had just got distance repair for both eyes and use glasses for reading.
Dr. Lee, can you do a video on red light therapy and if it is safe after cataract surgery? I have not been able to find information on this online. Thanks for all the information you provide with your videos. They are so informative and helpful.
Hello Dr Lee. Saw a video today that made the case that negative dysphotopsias are associated with IOLs that have "sharper" edges where the disk meets the outer rim, while IOLs with rounder edges don't have the problem (at least to a lesser degree.) Maybe you can address that in a future video - is that true, and if so, which lenses have rounder edges? And can you have both positive (light streaks at night) dysphotopsias as well as negatives in the same eye? Thank you!
Hello Dr. Lee. You said your favorite monofocal lens is the Eyehance lens because it has a bit more range to it. I wanted Eyehance because of this reason. However it only comes in CLEAR lens. My eye doctor said that yellow tinted lens has less glare during the night than the clear ones. Now I am trying to decide if I want less glare at night or more range on my monofocal lens. I am gearing towards Eyehance. What would you choose? Thank you!
I had cataract glaucoma surgery may 2, 2024. My vision is blurry in the morning and gets better through the day. Next morning blurry again like double vision, what is going on here.
Dr Lee, if one still gets foggy vision or heaviness two months after cataract surgery for both eyes but subsequent eye exam show eyes are fine, no secondary cataract or other eye problems. Any idea what could be the reason ? Thanks!
I had cataract surgery in both eyes. Each eye is adjusted different. As a result I see 20/15 and can focus at 6 inches. Don’t need glasses for driving or reading. I’ll use 2x readers when working on the insides of an iPhone. I drive at night with no problem. I had an excellent surgeon. I have many friends and relatives who have not had such good results. The one thing my surgeon told me when advising my friends is if the doctor is doing cataract surgeries and can’t do lasik to do a final adjustment find another surgeon, and not the cheapest guy you can find. That final adjustment should be included in the price or clearly stated before the operation.
LASIK on cataract lens wtf , as far as I know the only way to”adjust” a cataract lens is to remove it or if u develop POC and use a YAG laser to make holes in the lens bag to see better that’s it
I have cataract and doctor suggested me monofocal lens as multifocal lens won't work for me as i had done lasik 15 yrs ago, is it right doctor?? With monofocal can i watch mobile without glasses?? Pls reply

Hi there, it depends on the eye - how extensive was the retina surgery, how dense was the cataract, is there any known lens instability after the surgery? Would you recommend lutein supplements?
Thanks for asking! It depends why you want to take it. In general, lutein and zeaxanthin are safe to take and may be helpful for protecting the eye.

Already had Lasik in 2005. Wish I had just gone for the cataract surgery back then. Did not have good results.

Monofocal clear. Get tinted eyewear if it is important to you from prescription glasses or readers.
