I enjoy them both and each is incredibly smooth compared to my Penn Battles… I, II and III. But having those extra seals and added torque are a luxurious advantage on the MQ. And I was so impressed, I followed up my purchase with the Certate LT 4000 for my Black Pelican custom rod. Targeting tarpon this week here in Melbourne, FL.
I trust my old BG5000 and the second generation BG4500 twin stopper.. They're so robust. It survived Thailand monster 100 + kg stingray.( There are more bigger ones...) So, it's good for me ! It's not expensive. BG are legendary !
Why do reviewers always insist higher gear ratio is better? Lower ratio equals more power, and often means a more comfortable retrieve speed. It’s easy enough to turn the handle faster but a pain to turn extra slow! For sneaking lures through kelp I find about 4.8:1 to be perfect whereas with a 6.2:1 reel it’s near impossible to get into a comfortable rhythm.
They are two different form sizes. The 2500 mq is the size of if there was 1000 or 500 size bg. How can you even compare the two on any thing. It should be a bg 2500 vs a 3500 or 4k mq
I might have sent you a question on my BG MQ 4000D REEL. I just went fishing on a head boat for fluke and had a problem with the reel. It was difficult to bring in the line with either 4 or 5 oz Spro with a glass mino teaser. It’s seems like there maybe an issue with the reel. I also purchased a BQ 3500
Most right handed people would have the handle on the left, so most dextrous index finger can hold the line when casting. Things are different with conventional reels. Try both sides and works for you.
I have a BG 4000 purchased a months ago, been out fishing twice and broken the bail trip mechanism simply trying to reel in after a cast. I spent a lot of time assessing whether I should try this reel and am not pleased. Is the MQ improved where it gets used constantly or does it have the same cast junk metal used as the BG? Oh by the way, all freshwater fishing only so far.

Just bought a moon shine 6, 6 medium light finesse rod. Looking for a solid reel to do mainly fresh water but some salt. Looking between the diawa and penn. Target species bass. Any suggestions
If you want fitness definitely don't go with penn and also the bg is kinda a heavy chunky real too for medium to heavy work. For finesse look at the daiwa fuego or a shimano stradic, can't beat shimano for smoothness, these bgs and penns are more of daily beaters the mq is half and half, daily use with more lightweight

To be honest they are not that much of a difference in terms of perfomance between the 2. The only main different is the "Black Gold" 2016 does not require any "special tool" to open up the reel like the "Big Game monocoque" does. Moreover, for the MQ it is not only gonna cost more for the reel itself but also cost more to buy the "special tool" as well. something to consider for anglers who want to do their own maintenance. I mean i wished they have different material for the main gear like brass or stainless steel rather the same material as 2016 BG. that would be a huge different.
this video is out of date now. the BG I just got has a different setup under the spool that is more similar to the MQ shown here. It looks like the sealing under the spool will be better on the one I just got when compared to both of these

I would rather have more line to play with than worry about drag ,It may be important for the novice anglers but an experienced angler will know how to play a fish .
That's fine in open water, but if your pitching live bait to snook in mangroves or redfish around oyster bars, that drag comes into play. Novice or not. I've been fishing for over 30 years, but I guess I'm a novice. I still haven't learned how to "play" a 40" snook out of a tangle of mangrove roots.

the only problem in istanbul we have a lot of current and we need little bigger size but bg 4500 is way bigger like there is not middle heavy reel between 4000 and 4500 thats the problem with daiwa other brand okuma penn etc always middle size , ı mean does not go 400 gr heavy to 630 g
I just bought a 4000 which has the same drag, and I am considering using it for striper in New England, but I don't know what max size fish it can handle. I already have a penn slammer 6500 HS and a 4500 Daiwa bg, but the Penn is on the bigger side for the cape cod canal and in my opinion not needed. I can do the job with less but I don't know if the 4000 bg mq is too little.
Hi Salt Strong, I have a question about the Daiwa BG MQ. I live in the midwest (nowhere near saltwater). Is the Daiwa BG MQ for saltwater fishing or can I use the reel for freshwater? Or, should I buy the Daiwa Tutula Elite spinning reel? Both reels are priced the same. I happen to like how the BG MQ looks.
Yes, it can be purchased from our website. Please visit the full blog at bit.ly/3wzDfa6 for links. Or check the video Details for links to the reels discussed.
While I wouldn't call Pflueger junk, a Daiwa Exceler is a better reel than Pfluegers costing 2x as much. I have both. Don't even start with Presidents. Daiwa RG at same price point is much better. I disagree with your statement, I don't think anyone beats an Exceler at that price point.

Love Diawa reels. I’m still using a GS 10 that I bought in the early 80’s.
I'd rather have 2 bg's.
I have both. The MQ is a better reel. But 2 bg’s aren’t bad either.
I have 1 bg and ordered my second bg yesterday i agree with u
They’re both really nice. But the Saltist MQ beats them out. In cold cold weather I’d go BGMQ cause the saltist handle gets ice cold
No way bg mq is 10x better. They are excellent.
Your presentation and comparison was on point! Great info. When I do buy the bgmq-I’ll definitely buy it from salt strong! Thanks
Killer info. Everything you could want to know! Awesome job Justin.
The BG is so easy to service. A big plus for me.
Yep, absolute no brainer that the BG is better on this alone.
A lot of charter captains in the keys use the BG series because of durability and parts availability
The old one Daiwa BG, means Black gold
The new BG MQ, means Big Game ManoMonocoque 😉
The BG is fun with bonita and blackfin.

Nice vid!! Thanks it helped a lot
So glad we could help!
The BG is a quality reel regardless of the "budget" price. Idk why people talk about them like they aren't good quality.
I have the bg and I love it
If I am right handed should I have the handle on the right or left?
Most right handed people would have the handle on the left, so most dextrous index finger can hold the line when casting. Things are different with conventional reels.
Try both sides and works for you.
What’s the biggest difference on the fuego and ballistic? Bearings ?
Body material
Zion vs generic plastic
Just started swapping from Bg basics to mq’s and we’re not looking back. The mq is superior for sure.
Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome. Could you perhaps do comparison between the BG MQ and The BG MQ ARK ?
Great info - thanks Justin!
Is BG still produced by the Daiwa company?
Big game one is for surf set ups and basically salt fish but def worth it,
👍
Daiwa needs to improve its game. A cast zinc main gear on a $200 reel? El Cheapo.

proven & tested Daiwa BG. almost 6 years I am using in saltwater fishing
3-4lbs fresh and inshore. 6-10lb offshore
Difference in 2500H vs 3000XH, specific the X and H? please pair with a bull bay rod
Can the handle from a Diawa MQ 3000 saltist fit on the Diawa BG MQ 3000 . I like the round aluminum knob better.

@2022dec now what is your opinion about BG MQ reel after your personal use.

I'm waiting... 🙁 got pre order?
A zinc gear in a $200 reel is completely unacceptable IMO.

Can you guys do a review on the tsunami shield
Don't buy em compared to a penn battle or a Daiwa bg they don't hold a candle
Can you fish yellow tails with the mq .?

The thickness of the gear is meaningless if the rotor is the weak link
They should of made the mq in black snd gold too , I d besold the old bg looks better
I thought the same but in person different story
Can I swap the handle from one side to the other on a Diawa BG 8000? It's different than what I'm used to. Not sure how or if I can swap sides.

Yes u can l did it on mine

Daiwa 4000 Is good brohter 💪🎣🇬🇹
What would you say the 4000 bg mq would be good for?
Fish
I might have sent you my question but anyway the reel in question is a MQ
Hi Salt Strong, I have a question about the Daiwa BG MQ. I live in the midwest (nowhere near saltwater). Is the Daiwa BG MQ for saltwater fishing or can I use the reel for freshwater? Or, should I buy the Daiwa Tutula Elite spinning reel? Both reels are priced the same. I happen to like how the BG MQ looks.
The bg mq can fish both but is heavier.
Get the tatula elite
@@efrainsandoval6480 Thank you.
What about a comparison between a saltist back Bay vs the bg mq since it's essentially a sealed BG with magseal with similar price points
Absolutely! We'll do it as soon as we can get our hands on them.
The back bay is better in everyway
That$100 jump is double the price duh. And the BG 2500 is the size of the MQ BG 3500 that's more than 2x price
Can I buy daiwa bg
Yes, it can be purchased from our website. Please visit the full blog at bit.ly/3wzDfa6 for links. Or check the video Details for links to the reels discussed.
1 ounce lighter is HUGE. A whole day of casting means less fatigue.
Thanks for the tip!
Yo guys we gonna ask the question everyone wants to know
Do you have any parts for daiwa 5000 sweepfire like the handle?
You can order parts from Daiwa.
Look at the size difference the BG dwarfs the tiny MQ BG. This comparison is stupid
Yeaaahh
Cast zinc on a $200 reel???
Bg are the best no need the extra nothing for 100 more
👍
Stop bouncing the reels around!
Best is a saltist
The BG MQ is massively improved over the the BG. I’ve had both. The BG MQ destroys the BG in every category.
👍
little bit longer? that is alot for a little bit.
Send me daiwa bg 25100
Its not worth
I think it can be depending on the application and the angler. Some don't want or need the extra benefits. Some do. All about preference.
Bg Gold legendar.......mq....ok....good.....disagn.....no good.
Daiwa, shimano, and Penn are all overrated and overpriced. Stick with pflueger, abu garcia, and lew's. Cheaper and every bit as good.
If your bass fishing. Good luck with that if you hook your pb permit, bone, or tarpon
They don’t even hold up as well bass fishing.
Shimano and Daiwa make the best spinners in the world .
are you serious ? my abu garcia and lews reels literally exploded on 4lb smallmouth. trash
