    Just So y’all know, proximity effect is the phenomenon where bass is enhanced due to the sound source being extremely close to the mic. That being said, only certain microphones can actually achieve this and every microphone was built for a different reason which in turn, gives the sound source a different “color” or “tone” based on the type of microphone you have. Always remember that the microphone you use is more important than anything else for any recording you are doing. Weather that is vocals or an other instrument. That actually might be the strongest foundation. If he did a video on the different types of microphones, what they sound like, and what they could be used for. I think people would greatly benefit from that.

      Hey Tim thanks for chiming in and for checking out my video. I will likely cover vocal recording more in the future. It's a big topic! I would also add that the acoustics of your room is a crucial fundamental to the foundation of your recording. A great mic can't make up for a poor vocal performance recorded in a crappy sounding room. Thanks again for watching and commenting! I really do appreciate it! 😎✌️🙏 - Cole Mize

    I have only recently started working on recording my vocals in a DAW (Studio One since you suggested it in another one of your DAW videos). The first few I did the classic 'one takes' on, but this helps a lot. Can't wait to practice these tips you have shared with us. Your DAW videos are a blessing. Thank you.

    Great vid! Punching in is definitely super important and useful. For those also using Studio One (it's probably also in other DAWs too) but there's actually a punch-in feature - I is the default hotkey but there's also a button for it on the toolbar at the bottom, just to the left of the word Metronome. How it works is you set the loop markers to be where exactly you want to punch-in, arm the track to record, and hit record. This way no matter where you begin recording from it will only record between the loop markers - so if set properly, it means you don't have to go back and delete the 'head start' vocals because they won't even be recorded.

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great advice Porouian! I love loop recording, it really allows you to stay in the zone more without all the stop and go and psychology I puts less pressure because you don't have to "get it right" in one take. Thanks for adding value to the community! You rock! ✌😎 - Cole Mize

    Straight up when you made that spot stack effect by leaving some of the track overlaying it actually made the punch in more fluid. If you found a spot to do that intentionally with the spot stack in mind like on the right beat or word that'll probably make your punch ins brilliantly smooth

    Most of the time I record 2 vocals and pan them, but I'm very reckless with them. I realised now I shouldn't do that all the time and I should trim my puch-ins (i didn't even know they had a name) but I was struggling to blend them in, now I know what is right to do! Thank you!

    My first 4 bars I recorded came out perfect. Later on that same day I tried to lay the rest of my vocals but it sounds WAYYYY different from my first 4 bars. I tried doing the Mic placement for hoursI got close to the Mic far above under and nothing helps. I really don't want to delete those 4 bars cause it came out perfect.

      There's nothing wrong with that Poltbliss, and Snoop Dogg is probably a good artist to study to dial in your voice. The key is to learn how to add energy and character to your normal speaking voice and build up from there. I actually have a really dope video that covers this called "how to find you rap voice"👉 th-cam.com/video/eyS13s8114I/w-d-xo.html Check it out, I think you will learn a lot and will be encouraged from it. You got this! Much respect! ✌😎 - Cole Mize

      @@ColeMizeStudios thank you for the link and advice. I'll try to dial in my voice. When I went to the studio, I was told to rap louder. But even then, my voice was too quiet sounding. It's crazy, cause I rap kinda quickly and aggressively but have a softer voice compared to other rappers.

    Hey mate, I've been using this technique for a while but didn't know that it was called Punching-In. I think it's been mic placement throwing my Punch-ins off. Never thought about that tail ends technique though so most excited to try that out with some of my music. Enjoyed watching you edit vocals and throw out hefty tips because it seems simple stuff but it works. And, sometimes I'll do things that sound good but I don't know if it works, but having a profession tell you that it is the right way is just a bit more reassuring.

    You'll end up with a whole bunch of channels for each recording session I've heard that Pro Tools has a specific function that lets you punch in but I'm not pretty sure because I don't know too much about producing I do the rapping and I'm learning about production but I'm very interested in this punch in method because I'm a good freestyler in Spanish

    It's free so I'm not really complaining I just feel the book is misrepresented.
    Your book is good for very general basic stuff mostly on the writing side imo. I think you would be better served targeting it towards those people or adding more to it regarding the basic technical side of recording. Like how you have it, because I think you did a great job with it as far as distilling concepts to people, just more along the basic lines of recording.
    EQ, Compression, punching in etc.

      Thanks for your feedback Colin, My channel is primarily dedicated to teaching people how to rap, not recording and mixing, that's why the book is focused on rapping and writing. Thanks again for watching and commenting, I sincerely appreciate it! Much respect! ✌😎 - Cole Mize
