The Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 21DEC2024 (Winter Solstice)

On this shortest day with the longest night of the year, the California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0603 MST (20 min. late). P42s #78 & #140 provided the power to bring the 8-car train to a stop with car 7 to the station platform for passenger service to 20 detraining passengers and then to 6 new fares joining the coach for the trip west. With the station work safely completed, the high ball was given and on a clear signal at west Ft. Morgan CP the Zephyr continued its westward run with the next stop being Denver's Union Station.
My thanks to the operating crew for greetings this morning. And to the retired railroad worker taking the train to the western slope.
