I do wish they kept using the cards later. They really start vanishing at Champion and basically vanish at Ultimate. Mega fair enough due to Biomerge. Also it's interesting that going by the lyrics; you're not a Tamer *until* they evolve.
I think 'evolution' is used in a more symbolic sense here, meaning bettering themselves through being a Tamer, rather than literally evolving their Digimon partner
