This was the peak of Digimon. The perfect balance of kid's show and actually excellent story-telling with well written characters. Only other shows like that are things like Avatar the Last Airbender and the first season of Pokemon.
First season of Pokemon is overhyped. A lot of fights are a disappointment and there's little to no character development outside sad moments. I would say Battle Frontier or Sinnoh seasons are more of a challenge.
If you want to pick something from Pokémon anime it should be Diamond & Pearl series. That's the actual peak of the anime series. It's interesting, it has a lot of accurate and kinda mature elements, without pretending to be a teenager focused series like XY, with its good portion of comedy like first season but actual battles and action that has sense. It's also the best version of the protagonist (before Journeys) so that helps a lot. It's like Digimon Tamers in Digimon since both series deal with ideology conflicts from the very beginning. First season didn't have that... Except for one episode. That one with the Sandshrew trainer. Not enough.
Yep very psychological, especially Juri's character arc at the end. Plus it had extremely high stakes and a lot of suspense in the last arc and it had a great ending. Its one of the best kids shows ever made imo.
I'm watching Neon Genesis Evangelion rn and I think you're right!From what I've seen up to this point and from what I remember from Tamers,it indeed is similar to Eva,perhaps more than any other kids' show.

As someone who is rewatching tamers for what almost feels like a first time viewing, I cannot stress the nostalgia that hit me like a train after hearing this op after what seems like a lifetime ago
Best Digimon series and after that come 1 and 2.Awesome characters, awesome music, great battles, nice dark tone in the episodes, and the card mechanic digi evolution was fantastic

I'm not sure if this is silly of me to say, but, as someone who's sorta, fallen out of love with Pokémon, both Tamers and Ghost Game in particular really helped (are helping?) me scratch that 'Pokémon' itch that the franchise just, fails to provide me anymore ;; This show was a wonderful introduction to the world of Digimon and I'm excited to see what the future holds for this franchise!!! The stories and relationships that have been and, can be explored are truly unique and special, and I'm so glad I can experience it!!! 💙

When a show categorized for kids and doesn't call itself isekai has better story telling, plot and characters than those "mature" isekais that are getting out lately.
Totally, I don't care how much Shield Hero wants to throw at me themes of slavery or revenge in that edgy shit. This show actually tackles heavy themes with subtlety.
I've yet to watch a single Digimon anime, but I have a feeling I'll love the series even though I never grew up with it, and Tamers will be my favorite series. This OP is love.

Holy crap, this beats the pants off of the Western version! I know most of the time when the publisher tries to change the OP of an anime for Western audiences its usually worse, but comparatively this is leagues ahead of what we got in the US.
I tried to watch this third season but I wasn't hooked by it unfortunately but what a powerful opening song. Really good. If the American versions were the same, I would be delighted. Shame on them.

When a show categorized for kids and doesn't call itself isekai has better story telling, plot and characters than those "mature" isekais that are getting out lately.
Totally, I don't care how much Shield Hero wants to throw at me themes of slavery or revenge in that edgy shit. This show actually tackles heavy themes with subtlety.
