There was a book written back in the 1974 called "The Power of the Sub Conscious Mind" This came out long before "The Secret". I read it as a teen in the early 90s and remember thinking I had found some secret to life. Happy I never got to into it now that I see where all this stuff comes from.

Long before you two got here in Arizona, there is a guy in downtown Phoenix who has been practicing since the 1970 (late night commercials) and still practicing today now in his 90s. He is one of those who sits you down, does a hypnosis session with you, has you listen to the nearly 2000 recorded meditation tapes he made (now cd's) where you fake it until you make it, or see it, become it, as Jac is describing.
This has a long long tail in Phoenix. What is worse, these claim to be Christians and a self ordained minister, (All Faith Self-Help Center) where they think they are doing you and God a favor. They grew rich, even made relaxation resorts up north. If you sign up (they give you a whole bunch of cd's they think align to you) and have you come in to lay down on a Freudian like couch (at least a dozen) w headphones, candle light, private divivded quarters, and try to reach your sub-conscious, all really without the Word of God.
The only thing godly they use is accents, like By faith, and I've called you, not you choosing me. So these have deep roots in Phoenix, they meant well, but are prosperity gold-diggers led by demons, so stay away, not a good place for anyone seeking peace of mind or spirit.
You wil do much better coming to church and finding out what the WORD of GOD (not word of faith) is all about.

Jon hits on a key point there, people think they can benefit from charisma like a magnet ... oh that's Aaron Judge, and even most adults are star struck, jaw dropped in awe, or don't you know that is self-help guru Tony Robbins, and people flock, thinking money and success will follow them, this also started w Nightengale Conant tapes, be a better salesman, Think and Be Rich, and other Carnagie tapes. It is delusional, and contradictory to biblical teaching. Many flock for answers in books and readings without considering what is worth reading, God's Word, The Alpha and Omega of the blueprint of life, and all living.
Manifestation works 100% but it has a huge spiritual price tag. Careful what you wish for you may just get it.
Those who want their OWN good, more than the good God wants for them ...
DOES NOT KNOW GOOD, nor do they know or respect God.
if it didn't work at all, the devil and his demons would have no market,
so they do give just enough, so one is decieved into believing such may be true.
But like the skill of singing and playing an instrument or baseball for that matter,
if it were so easy,
everyone would be doing it.
The devil knows how to distract your attention,
and what it is that will trip you up.
Beware of his wiles, Resist him.
Draw close to God, and God will draw near to you.

See the danger of the book, "The Secret"? I once warned a "Christian" bookstore about this book, because they were selling it.

Thats why when you try to make yourself happy on your own terms or live your life for yourself it is sin to god. If you decide what you want he finds it evil. You are nothing but a tool to him, a servant for his agenda and he doesn’t want you to step out of line.
Think about it, how GRACIOUS God was to King Nebucchadnezzer - here we have one of the greatest and strongest pagan kings of all time. For 7 years he loses it - roams around like a wild dog - until one day - he comes to His senses and he not being a religious person in the least realizes who God is, eternal, HOLY, and most powerful - what He is all about, and sums up (great as he thought himself to be, he wound up being nothing) and bowed to submit to the Lord God Adonai Most High.
If God can show the pagan world of the day - (not the passive non-challant ho-hum la-ta-dee followers) who He was, and IS, and continues to be, then there is no reason today, people can in one fell swoop or event, get a Ferris Bueller calling card - hello I'm God. Sacred respect and honor is long over due in this Nike pagan do as you please culture of the day.
Jon called the Law of Attraction pseudo-science, but I wonder how much time science has devoted studying it. Science is inherently anti-supernatural. Always keep that in mind. I'm not endorsing the Law of Attraction, I'm just saying.
