I was impressed that you used or considered a couple of times a strategic sacrifice from the book you are reading for a month and, secondly, that you stopped yourself from taking just any 'free' pawn. Maybe now you're ready for the next challenge? Not to be impressed by how high your opponent is rated. You already made the first move (pardon the pun) in that direction: admitting that you have this weakness. Now, I understood EVERYBODY has this weakness, but what do you care - you're not everybody. Congrats on coming back from behind, first having lost two games, if I remember well.
Yeah he did great, especially if he played in open section, which I assume. I agree though, it’s good sometimes to play the board and not your opponent. Their rating mostly shows how consistent they are, and how much stamina they have, not that they’ll outclass you in a single game. Of course the rating difference matters, like I would probably take the draw if I was playing Magnus, but if it was someone 2 or 3 hundred rating points higher even, I would still not take the draw. But that’s just me.
Nf6 with exf6 is a kind of new modern mainline in the Caro Kann and recommended in a couple of repertoire books. So it should not be such a big surprise. But finally it came to a good end.
Congratulations for your videos and for your chess games’ reports. Entertaining. Because you’re a good++ chess player (not GM) you make « rookie » mistakes , you explain your uncertainties, your decision making process and your moves. You make me feel « good » because, for the grand majority of us, whichever level we are, I go through that exact same situation you are experiencing! BUT, next time, SHOW us more about the venue where the tournament is taking place and what about the other chess players (who are they): bring them on the video!
6:56 actually he can take with the pawn and creating an cube which is one of the things people lookout in this opening ( caro kann: tartatower variation)
That would be a bad move 1 his king won’t be safe , it can be checked many times 2 its still a bad move having a cube of pawns in the end game , it will make the developing of the pawns into a queen harder, slowly and very boring
Thank you for making these recaps, they are instructive af. Also the way you are supposed to play this line is c3 Bd3 Qc2 allowing Re8+ but Ne2 blocks and then black must go h6 or h5 and then you can 0-0 or Be3 which indicates 0-0-0. So the full line: 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nf6 5. Nxf6+ exf6 6. c3 Bd6 7. Bd3 O-O 8. Qc2 Re8+ 9. Ne2 h6 10. Be3 Nd7 11. O-O-O If you decide to go for long castle, you should look at how to play the position because white usually defends their king and attacks the center so it's not the usual opposite side castling, where both sides attack the opponent's king. Keep up the good work.🔥
In this opening with the initial pawn structure, white wins the pawn endgame if all pieces are traded. 3 can block 4 and your 4 against 3 majority wins
Nice video. I think you should always play for the win, let's say if you do lose a pawn up with an advantage in an end game then you have a game that you can analyse and learn from, your rating might go down temporarily but you will certainly learn from the game and become a better player.
Always play for a win, I use to play a competitive 5v5 video game called Valorant, and when they offer me a draw, I NEVER ACCEPT IT, because i feel like its a waste of time. Anyway everyone has motivation to draw a competitive match and there you get played mentally (my opinion!). Ps. I really like this series, its my lunch yt video everyday ahahaah
No, there are sometimes when taking a draw is undoubtedly better, especially if you know you’re losing (even slightly). Not to mention when you draw someone who’s rated way higher than you, you actually gain a little bit of elo

Very good understanding of the caro I see. You must be a strong player. Good to see another fellow tournament player here on TH-cam.
Yes there is a fun line for white to consider by playing the backwards knight move Nf1 with the idea of playing g4-g5.
Does Zachary know he is now 1900+ fide

I loved when it was like 17-17 and only one vote was needed for a draw
I always clicked draw just to troll the enemies

Candidate Master Zachary Saine... it has a nice ring to it. Keep working hard man, you're killing it :)
I have a question, why didn't it come to you to do long castle after seeing all the issues that short castle had?
I would have continued 13:39
2:09 I'd also play bf4 🤦♂️
Where will my next tournament be?
You should play a tournament in Sweden! Would if you came here, sometime :D
