  • Zephyrhills Florida Driving Tour To Dade City. Take a drive with me as I head to Zephyrhills Florida then continue to Dade City. Zephyrhills Florida is a small town known for their Zephyrhills bottled water as well as their airport that specializes in skydiving jumps. I start from St. Petersburg and head into Tampa. Zephyrhills is a suburb of Tampa and about 30 miles from downtown Tampa.
Check out what the smaller towns in Florida really look like.

Yes it has a nice little downtown. Dade City seems to have a bigger downtown area. They both look pretty good.

Dade City does have a larger downtown,it has a lower population than Zephryhills but 50 years or so ago Dade City was much larger, probably the largest City in Pasco County then.Zephyr means a gentle West wind combined with the hills which is how Zephyrhills got it's namesake.

Wow! Thanks for posting! I graduated from high school in Zephyrhills back in the 60s. A favorite Friday night activity was to cruise up to Dade city and back. I can’t believe how much everything has changed, but this sure brought back memories! (I wish you had hung a right at 5’th and driven thru downtown Z-hills.)

It must have been a very different place back then. I bet you have some good memories of it.

Dade City native here, now Tampa resident.....yes, both nice towns, but especially Dade City. Zephyrhills is a challenge to deal with in winter months because the population swells so much in the winter with snowbirds. It's a real challenge for many businesses because in winter there's too much business to handle, and when spring arrives and approaches summer, they head north. Many close because they can't turn a summer profit. Business owners who didn't squirrel away money during the rush never re-open.... Dade City is not like that and is much more stable.

Thanks for info. I did not know there is a huge amount of snowbirds in Zephyrhills.

My second home. Since 13 in 1968 I have been in and out and lived in Zephyrhills and Dade City. For a couple reasons, mostly to be near my grandkids I moved to Buffalo. So many changes during the years. Love the hills and my old stomping grounds at Sawmill.

Years ago, there was a park just outside of "Z-Hills," out around Hwy 39 and 301. It was amazing, one of those places only a few Locals knew about. Some old family owned a few hundred acres, you drive down a sort of long drive the the woods, stop at the wood shack, pay 3$ per car, and park. Then it was a short walk to a small lake, that was fed by about ten springs. 72 degrees all year! The lake had a dam on one side with a boardwalk, and people would dive in, etc. It turns out these springs were the beginning of the giant Hillsborough River! Hardly anyone was ever there, but then Zephyrhills water company bought it, and it is no longer for public use.

No sir, while all of us were 'livestock' the place was called Crystal Springs Park. Truly obscure!

It is remarkable how a small town can have so many large franchise stores where you would be that there would be more small towns.

I had a little house on Carter Avenue in Dade City, from 1995 to 1998. At that time Dade City was too small to keep a BURGER KING up and running! But they did have "George and Gladys' Barbeque. A great place to get breakfast, (and awesome lunch too) there was an old jukebox and people would drop quarters in and play "Phantom 309" and various other 'Truckstop Country' hits!

I believe it’s because of all the snowbirds that descend on the town during the winter months.

Is this a modest town to live in Florida? A question for Floridians..

    • @ToGoIsToKnow

Yes, places that are not close to the beaches like this town and others like Lakeland and Ocala have cheaper housing.

I’ll be honest with u D G the main part of Zephyrhills is horrible. A LOT of break ins. A LOT of drugs and drug addicts more so than a lot of other city’s.. there is a few exceptions as far as like lake Bernadette and some other nice areas but I’d def stay away from Zephyrhills. Dade city where I live is def a Better town to live
