We have a handful of BJJ and wrestlers in our MT gym. We've been playing around with them trying to pin us and our goal is just to break mount and get up. We're allowed to lightly slap each other around.
It's really fun and we both, strikers and grapplers, gain benefits from that drill.

I would say I saw both the version in that ring
    1. Stand up striking which Fadi Sir showed
    2. How things can be taken to the ground which Lincon Sir showed
Yes it was more of sparring and not very serious but it was giving the view of what could and what couldn’t have happened.
I was into a dilemma of how to begin I am 33 year old and wanted to learn Martial Arts.
I was confused how to start as I am getting an option of learning both BJJ and MT. I was like which to learn first?
    My intentions/ interest:
I just want to learn it as fitness and not to compete.
But at the same time I wanted to be fully equipped because situation can turn worst anytime. And things do begin from stand up and can go to the ground. We can’t say.
Now I am getting it, as this video has helped me. I will start learning both the forms because one thing is for sure I see it will be a great way to study how to fight and will also be fun experiencing it.... then will see how things will shape up.
    Thanks 🙏🏽 for the video

As a competing, european gold medal, bjj practitioner, I'd say it's better to start with grappling. While everyone know how to stand and land a punch (far from properly), aside from pushing, grappling and especially ground work is far less intuitive than striking, and that will develop a style that will not only overpower, but also surprise parteners that also just started or people who do not train. As you develop as grappler, getting into striking (especially thai) is a great idea for refining your style. Just keep in mind that you should not only train them separately, but also together, so you do not have 2 different postures, 2 different rulesets, 2 different types of guard and limb movement. You have to know how to connect the techniques and find the approach that suits your style best. I personally am a grappling based fighter, competing in BJJ for Atos Romania (after the AOJ model), but I also do some kickboxing and street fighting basics not to be "caught with my guard off". I think coaching beginner classes is also something that has helped me a lot in this jorney, because I always have to find the very essence of techniques for them to be useful, but also not to give them too much unnecessary detail (cause they are still beginners). That way, you can really not limit yourself to only specific situations in which you can use a technique, but understand the more general idea, figure out a proper context for it and get yourself into the area that you fell most comfortable in for that technique. And, as Tainan Dalpra (the current world, european and pan champion for black belts) told us at the last seminar, position should be always be put before details. We are talking about a technical position, of course. My name is Andrei. If you need any advice about training or just wanna chat I'd be happy to also learn from your experiences. You can find me on Instagram at brwspots.

He is letting him get up off the ground. What was the point of that video? If it's straight propaganda then fine, but there is no way that a person would be able to get back to their feet using the "techniques" the Muay Thai fighter did. Even a purple or decent blue belt would have been able to keep him down.

    • @seaburyneucollins688
      @seaburyneucollins688 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah, both are fake. The MT guy would have hit a lot harder and the BJJ would have held him to the ground like his life depended on it (which it might in a real fight). I love seeing the real clashes like in early UFC, where the stakes are so clear. Traditional BJJ guys were hopeless on the feet but everyone else was hopeless on the ground, and of course most fights ended up on the ground. This was a cute demo, but the clash of styles was resolved long ago and nowadays the only way is a mixture.

i love this, the mt guy if the kicks were for real the leg to the chest would hurt and if he did not have gloves on, impact to the face would hurt too. The bjj guy great moves like a giant spider can come from any direction great video.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the idea was to see if a non striking martial would get one over on a striking martial art

Everyone saying there sparring. In what planet does this kind of sparring benefit anyone. Fake punch kick, fake takedown, fake getup, gives up mount, no holding down once he gets the take down like? If this was called “can BJJ guy take the Muay Thai guy down” I would understand but this is fucking silly.

Maybe you should have chosen a fit companion for a Muay Thai world champion...maybe a BJJ world champion to match his level...and the story changes. These two are my favorite martial arts !

EVERYBODY in this comment section stating it is FAKE, has obviously NEVER been in a sparring situation to recognize this as what it is. if you dont train sparring you are no fighter. if you are no fighter you should not be allowed to comment which one is better.

wouldnt it be a really bad idea as a BJJ fighter to jump towards a MT fighters knees? I mean you can try it once, sure... but I think a real MT would say thank you and pull the knee hard vs the head and the fight is over...

after a proper leg kick from a M. Thai guy, you not coming in for a take down attempt, you will be recovering from leg buckled, and regaining balance.

+DanielSayre no one in this video was amateur. If you hold high skill in a martial art you would know that these practitioners are very talented and by no means going at this at full power. This is a sparring video slightly sped up at some points. This video is very well done and both of these guys could take your lunch money

784563 No, grapplers like Bjj and Wrestling submits strikers way more often than strikers ko grapplers. Grapplers got upper hand.

Jiu jitsu isn't fighting, it's grappling. This is exactly what would happen if a jiu jitsu practitioner got into a fight now days. This isn't the 80s when no one knew about submission grappling

Well, to be fair, in bjj you train to fight strikers and grapplers. In the average muay thai training you only train to fight strikers.
