Dan S To be more precise, it is a matter of acknowledging that pretty much all defensive guns on planes are about deterrence because it is very difficult for gunners to see an enemy, let alone get good fire on it. Since the odds of getting a hit are very small irrespective of what gun you are using, the question is if you consider using bigger and deadlier guns is worth the additional weight. Every pound you put into your guns is a pound not able to be put towards fuel or bombs. The B17 Flying Fortress, for example, could have carried a lot more bombs or added dozens of miles to its range if it had used .30cal machineguns for defense instead of .50cals, as the smaller guns were literally less than half the weight. However, a lot fewer Axis planes would have gone home with expensive repair bills if they had not packed the bigger guns. Such is the question designers had to answer for themselves.
Why not? I'm really interested in aviation history, but much more interesting in historically accurate games. Especially this game.

Many wartime Lancaster bomber crewmen had received a modicum of pilot training "before being selected for other vital jobs". Those still keen to try driving a plane could go to "night school" early or late in missions. There was only one pilot position on most operational bomber airplanes and to say the pilot and trainee both had high motivation to teach and learn was a given. Bailing out over enemy territory was to be avoided if at all possible, especially if somebody, anybody, could get a shot up plane back into friendlier skies.

Bo Huggabee I meant where you can actually aim down the sights of your gunner's gun and not have to aim when the camera is above the plane, if that makes sense

Years ago I watched your channel and learnt to dominate with the FW-190 in War Thunder. Super tutorials and it was a huge help. I sadly don't play anymore but glad to see you're still making content! Once I get a new PC I may pick it up again.

Man I still have hyperlobby on my desktop. This game brings back so many great memories. Still have my X53 flight stick. I remember all the custom setups i had for aircraft trims and crazy stick calibration setups as well. IL-2 was and probably will always be the best dogfighting simulator of all time./Bmbing/strafing/taking off/landing/flatspins/redouts/blackouts/full trim to turn harder/amazing graphics/cockpit detail/IR tracker/bombing sights u can adjust from 5km while doing 200 mph and hit it on the bullseye. I miss this game...

It is a true Art,to give ur Gunner a Good perspective.
After evading enemy tailing by turn,put plane straight for 3 seconds,gunner will have good shooting position,while tailing enemy is focusing for 2 seconds on aiming !
After 1 second,gunner is aimed,got 2 seconds to damage tailing plane,then Pilot makes another move.
Keep throttle 75ish ,so Fighter plane will be too fast to hit.
One of the best rewards as a Pilot,is when your gunner tells U,You are a good Pilot ; )
