    It was extremely useful for me as a non-native English speaker new to North America seeking to socialize and communicate with others, as well as learn the culture at work! The content was beyond my expectations in this and the other small conversation video. Thank you! 🙂🙏

    It’s really helpful. Thanks for making this video. I remembered the first time I entered the company, my colleagues considered me as an ambitious but a little bit offensive person , even though I weren’t intended to do so. From then on I started to realize the importance of being polite and friendly as much as I could, since the relationships with colleagues are only built during work. Anyway, thx for sharing this video.😊

    • @Englishwithkim
      @Englishwithkim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your story with me. You make a really good point - strengthening relationships with colleagues only happens while you're at work, so you need to make the most out of your time. Small talk really can be an opportunity to connect and be friendly.

    Hi Kim! :)
    It's been a long time since the last time I posted something in your channel.
    With regards to this topic: actually, last week I was chosen as the host of an English conversation group that the human Resources team of the Company that I work for kicked off, so I got the opportunity to participate in today's session with many colleagues of different areas, all via on line. This is my second time doing this kind of dynamics during my time in the company, indeed.
    It was quite interesting! And I highly believe that this video can help us to develop our skills and boost up our confidence much more. I really appreciate this sort of content as I find it very useful.
    Thank you so much for your help!
    Have a beautiful weekend, and lots of blessings to you and your beloved ones!! :D

That's so wonderful that you're now the host of an English conversation group, and that you had the opportunity to connect with so many colleagues! As you know, I love talking about small talk and having better conversations, so if your sessions inspire any questions, let me know! Take care!

    You can probably tell that this video was recorded earlier this year, before things changed during the global crisis. I'm planning to record more videos about small talk, and I need your help! Are you finding it easier or harder to talk to your coworkers or colleagues if you're working remotely? Are there questions you're afraid to ask? Are you concerned you're not saying the right thing? Leave a comment and let me know!

    • @Englishwithkim
      @Englishwithkim  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be helpful to view this coworker as a code to crack, and simply try asking more questions until you find one that works. Try questions like "How's your day been going?" or "What have you been up to?" These are more open-ended, and you can see how they respond.

      Thanks for making this vedio. My accent is different from others and they find it hard to understand me and so have been so much withdrawn from having free communication to an extent of just keeping quite to my self.
      How can I deal with this?. Its a totally different culture around me.

    I'm trying my best to add some of these to my daily routine but I'm find it incredibly difficult as I just don't have the energy a lot of them have.
    I'm in a team which is slightly unbalanced too, I'm the only male in the team and all my hobbies and interests none of them follow.. I kind of interact occasionally in the conversations but find myself distant to most as I can't relate to them.
    I'll try a few of these methods, thank you.

      Thanks for sharing your experience! I originally wrote these questions for a client who wanted to stay focused on work when making small talk with her colleagues. However, as you've mentioned, they are in-depth and require energy and attention. For lighter, more general conversation topics, try this video: th-cam.com/video/p0HgYS5xlao/w-d-xo.html
      I understand what you're saying about feeling like you can't relate to your colleagues. I encourage you to check out the video I've shared to see if any of those topics might work. If you experiment with a variety topics, you will hopefully find something that feels comfortable to talk about with them.

      @@Englishwithkim I'm not trying to be mean but nobody cares,or maybe a few people care but an overwhelming majority of people don't care about the well being of other people. I know small talk is a way of people being nice to each other but small talk seems forced and fake. For the most part, people don't care how you're doing,it's just something to say. You get the same answers every time. How you doing?" "I'm good. "How are you?" "Good".
      This is what Happens to me on the elevator at work
      Tenent: hi how are you
      Me: Good,how are you ( I don't care how he or she is doing,I'm just being polite)
      Tenent: nice day outside
      Me: yeah,it sure is
      Tenent: tommorow's Friday
      Me: yeah,yeah.
      After that there's seconds of silence.
      We get off the elevator and go in our separate direction.
      I was in a store last night and the cashier asked the customer what country is he from.
      I'm saying to myself "why does he care?" The customer said he's from France but plans on going back next year. The cashier then asked him what air line is he taking. I'm sure he doesn't care what airline he's using,it's just more fake talk. What was the point in that small chit chat? I don't get it. You hear this kind of chattering everyday in restaurants,clothing stores,hair salons,barbor shops,work places,just about every public place. I think small talk is a waste of words and people engaging in it are being phony or they care what other people think,and so they feel like they have to say something.
