Solo Through War-Torn Donbass 🇺🇦

- 🇺🇦 In 2014 the Ukrainian part of the Donbass erupted into war. Separatists from the Lugansk and Donetsk regions took up arms and took control of Ukrainian towns all along the eastern region of the country. Eventually they were pushed back until they controlled just the cities of Lugansk and Donetsk and some surrounding villages. I went off to visit some of the towns that the Ukrainian army had re-taken along the front lines to see how life was progressing and to hunt for the ultimate Soviet mosaic...
What a difference a year makes. I hope all the people in this video come through the war in one piece.

Ah! That makes sense. Thank you.

Think about this, regarding the little girl on the bus filming herself: she is close to, if not living in a war zone. It's the dead of winter in North East Ukraine, probably 15 degrees F, every plant life is dead, the sky is gray (likely has been for months), ground covered in inches of snow ... yet still she smiles bright and finds beauty in her environment. Pretty powerful stuff.

The mural on the destroyed building on 18:05 isn't a random lady. She's a local teacher of Ukrainian literature, she used to teach it for years. Her husband's got injured 20 meters away from the building, and their flat is just in the building nearby, facing the frontline. I think this gives a strong symbolic message, especially considering her profession.
P.S. Mural was made by Australian painter
I learned that from Euromaidan press, or maybe UNIAN, yes.

@Vic weegee TH-cam poops. I stand with you in remembrance, brother
@Sad snake baking sand cake I think he's referring to the kinds of videos that popped up on TH-cam shorty after going online. Travel vlogs were more like home movies, with little to no post work other than some editing. I think the majority of the stuff I saw uploaded onto TH-cam were of the awkward, home movie type.
@Sad snake baking sand cake The one I can remember off hand is a guy names Andrew Princeton (Possibly misspelled the name) getting a head massage in India. The video may be called The Head Massage, but I'm not sure. The video is grainy and rough, with little in the way of nice presentation. The challenge is that finding those older videos now is getting tougher. The way TH-cam organizes videos, it seems that the older ones get buried. I've noticed a lot of old videos I used to see are impossible to find, if they're still on here at all.

22:40 As long as children continue to see beauty wherever they are, there is still hope.
She doesnt know how it used to be before man. But people do know, and thats what it really about.
@@Yaltadvij No. It isn't. The past is fixed. You can only go forward. The child is happy and sees beauty NOW. Nostalgia is a trap.
"when the owners fight their slaves suffer" heavy heavy stuff
“And you’ll notice that the metro stations here’s aren’t very fancy”
People in New York: 🥲😓😢😖
You’ve seen the metro of Moskva?
People in Boston , stations are falling apart a year after they redo them , its called don't kill the job . They can't get the Chinese trains they buy to stay on the tracks .
NY subway is not that bad bruh its just because NY is like 10 million ppl and they have lots of homeless so ofc subway smell like piss and there is graffiti everywhere but honestly NY subway is decent
@@streettravelxxi So we now accept a station that have homeless hanging out smells like piss and the stations have been personalized with spray paint but the trains move ok. Can't we shoot for clean stations , no homeless and stations that smell and look clean . Nobody has any pride in America , just throw the trash out the car window. There was a homeless person putting tissues on the seats of the subway car and if you moved it to sit down he would come over and ask you to pay for it . Who needs that after working all day ?
He nearly started another bloody war in that fish market
as a ukrainian i can assure you that it was just a normal babushka behaviour

Hi
Nah they have at it daily I bet!
Interesting to see our reality with the eyes of an "outsider". Also your ability to connect with people is amazing. Great job, many thanks
Im american (provided for perspective) and what I notice is that he always embraces with fresh eyes ignoring any prejudices.
It brings your corner of the nearer to ours, so we can appreciate how things are, now and in the past. Well done Mr Bald ( we share the same hairstyle 😹)
I’m ao glad we get these kinds of perpsectives into the war in Donbass & Luhansk. God keep and protect you, make sure you stay safe
It was a lovely encounter with the child. It's always refreshing to see a grain of hope in the middle of such a gray and sad environment. Bald is capturing a real human experience, something that goes beyond the fibers of mankind.
Cannot be replicated, will forever be part of TH-cam history.
