I have that exact same Dewalt drill. I am mostly a ridgid or Milwaukee guy but I did decide to buy this Atomic compact Dewalt due to friends tellin me how small and powerful it is. I use it for home use mostly and it has been a great tool. Mostly the size. Love the compactness of it. All these tools have their pros and cons, and uses for different applications. I am fond of RELIABILITY. I’m no professional contractor, but I am a pretty all around guy that fix 90% of things around my home and others. So to have tools that last and have necessary power is mandatory. Great comparison by the way 🙏🏼👍🏼🤙🏼✊🏼
Great job Zack , have the first gen sub makita and like it. People say those drills are weak but not everybody is drilling thru concrete or driving lag bolts. All 3 drills would be great at finer wood working, driving pocket screws and doing pilot holes. Your haircut and beard trim looks great too.
Thank you sir. I had to trim up for Thanksgiving. I definitely needed it. You’re absolutely right. These drills would be good for woodworking and moderate trade work. Heck, I used a black and decker drill for a few years as an HVAC service tech.
I got the Makita from Tractor Supply for $43. I has done all the basic jobs needed. Awesome deal. Tractor Supply still has them for $43 if you can find them.
Excellent, thanks for your effort. I have mostly Dewalt, several Ryobi tools and some Ridgid mixed in lately. I haven't tried any brushless Makita yet. Hope to at some point. I do have a vintage Makita 9.6v that's pretty fun. I also like what I'm seeing from Skil these days, particularly the 12v line.
Thanks for commenting. I had the brushless Makita 18x2 rear handle circular saw and loved it. I have the brushless hammer drill and it’s good too. The Skil 12 volt line has been very good for me except one drill that died prematurely. I would buy them again though.
Hey Zack, I always enjoy testing of small and/or subcompact tools. I noticed you had some shots of Ridgid brand drill and they do have a subcompact line of drills and drivers (among other tools) that you could maybe bring into future videos. Metabo HPT also makes a nice line of compact drills and impact drivers along with skil 20v. Could have a head to head among those three and see who the ultimate winner is when comparing against this first round. Anyway, keep up the good work. edit: Not sure on the exact lengths compared to the ryobi, dewalt, makita, but Kobalt and Flex also make compact drills. Also, I don't want to be part of the current giveaway. Hopefully, it goes to someone who needs it.
Thank you sir. I absolutely want to bring the Rigid and Metabo in for future sub compact tests. I went back and forth picking 3 drills and they were in the mix. Maybe the next compact comparison can be Milwaukee vs. Rigid vs. Metabo (or Flex).
The best drill competition review I’ve seen, but how about a total review of each brand’s combo set of driver and impact driver- which combo set gives you the best of everything? Maybe Ryobi’s impact driver beats DeWalt’s regular driver. Plus please don’t forget Milwaukee. Not seeing where to like or rate this video, but it was thumbs way up and taught me some things about drills! Thanks.
So I noticed something, the dewalt moved around a lot while you were doing tq test, and the drill test. Did you feel fatigue after the screws and drill tests, compared to ryobi or Marita? Like to see cordless ratchet tests, brush vs. brush, and brushless vs. brushless...
The DeWalt had such high torque it was tough to hold it down in my dyno. I have already started working on a system to hold tools down in the future. Thanks for the suggestions for video ideas. I actually have started planning for the ratchet video.
@@HVACShopTalk something else I was thinking about, many youtubers have tested the impact driver adapters in the past, but I don't recall anybody have done the fail and tq test using the 1/2" adapters. Would be interesting to see something like cheap impact rated from autozone/walmart/harbor freight to some other better brand name from big box stores, or even the truck brands.
I remember many years ago using a 14.4V Makita to put a half-inch spade bit through REAL 4x4 wood in an old Victorian-era house after the owner burned up (KILLED DEAD) his 120VAC Black & Decker trying it. That tool was my "pay" for the job, which was rewiring a large section of that house. No doubt Makita still makes great tools; but please EXCLUDE ME from the giveaway; we're heavily invested in the One+ line and really don't need another platform. Someone else needs it more. For tools to test, although they are on a much lighter scale, if there's enough interest I'd like to see tests of the new Ryobi USB-charged tools. Another one I'd LOVE to see is a comparison of those universal socket drivers, the ones with all the pins in them. I'm particularly interested to know how deep the deepest one goes; I could get less than 1/2" down when trying to put some 1/4" nuts on their bolts when installing a mailbox yesterday, and had to finish each one by hand.
Thank you for the great suggestions and input. Tell you what- if your comment is selected and I still have the compact Ryobi drill I will give you that instead. Thanks for watching!
Milwaukee = Ford, absolute power even to the point of breaking itself. Makita = Toyota, good performance but will sacrifice power for longevity. DeWalt = Chevy, never really know what your gonna get till you get it, and if you love it just do. Ryobi = Old Honda civics, absolutely the most power and reliability you can get when it comes to budget pricing. You drive it it all your life and never really need anything else.
They all performed better than compact drills are given credit for, especially the Dewalt. I’d like to see the new Milwaukee compact compared to these.
NEED THIS DEWALT DCD 794 or MIGHT get the XR DCD 805 BECAUSE i like the HAMMER FUNCTION test the FLEX COMPACT HAMMER DRILL it has 650 inch pounds i have one and it would be nice to Pit it Against the ATOMIC DCD 794 or if you have the 799
Good suggestion. Just picked up my first Flex product - an angle grinder for an upcoming test. I don’t use hammer function often so I stick with regular drill drivers. I will test hammer drills in the future.
For me, I'm extremely cheap and I will pay extra for good tools, but I want to see if I can cheap out as much as possible. Basically, throw in the two walmart brands, the harbor freight brands, and random shit from the Internet like you do sometimes compared to a few of these more normal brands like DeWalt. The first cordless tool I bought based on reviews back when they really existed and I got a Bosch 18v drill. That was a long time ago, but I remember the review saying it was the only cordless that could compete with the corded drills. I've been using it for like 15 years now or something. As cordless prices have gone down, I have bought a few cheap models and been impressed, and some that haven't impressed me. A Hyper Tough reciprocating saw I have in their 20v system sucks, but their impact driver has blown me away. My kobalt 40v weedwacker and leaf blower are dogshit but the lawnmower and chainsaw are great. So yeah. Maybe more store brand stuff you don't see in other channels. Everyone tests Ryobi and Makita and stuff. Nobody tests Kobalt or the Amazon Denali brand and stuff. Try it out!
Just wondering why not use the proper batteries for these drills? Stacked for the dewalt, hp for the ryobi and idk what makita is but yeah you get the point.
Create review Zach in my opinion if the glow fit the hand that’s the one going to be for me The tools you used most likely going to be for homeowners any of those drills would do the job around the the house more powers not always better people with no experience using can get hurt themselves
No mention of price? You get what you pay for. Dewalt costs the most. All of there tools do. I went with ryobi. Good price for what you get in their line of tools vs Dewalt and other brands.
To me, the best value is buying the Dewalt on sale for 149. That would include both the impact driver and drill. If you have the time to wait, it’s worth it.
Too much emphasis on torque and performance in this video. These are compact drills meant for easier jobs, size and weight are the most important factors, so you can fit the drill in tight spaces and carry it around without fatigue. There should be more weight measurements, including with and without different battery sizes, and size measurements too. In those categories the Dewalt loses and Makita comes out on top. If you need torque and performance for drilling into concrete, pick up a bigger hammer drill. And btw I have the DeWalt one as it fits my dewalt batteries which, lets face it, in most cases determines what you actually end up getting.
Went from a leading HVAC front runner to absolutely nothing.. while all other channels went or moved to bigger and better things. Kinda sad 😭. Just give it up man
Actin like being a HVAC TH-camr means something to someone. Hard to say what you used to be but can’t imagine it’s much better than the prissy bitch in a comment section
Great video! I would like to see how the m12 fuel compares to this lineup. Also the dewalt dcd800 is only half an inch longer with flagship model power. It's really impressive and I'm a milwaukee guy.

I bought the Dewalt because of your review. Thank you so much. God bless
I got the Makita from Tractor Supply for $43. I has done all the basic jobs needed. Awesome deal. Tractor Supply still has them for $43 if you can find them.
Dude I got the 3/8 impact there for $65 and the top tier hammer drill for $65 as well. They have some sweet deals and clearance sometimes.
I somehow found that top tier hammer drill for $32. I didn't even need it but couldn't pass up that deal, lol.
@anthonylerza871 wow that’s wild. Nice! I would have bought it too.

@@HVACShopTalk Good to know. Looking at brushless hammer drills now.
When it comes to compact Drill/Drivers I prefer the 12v platform. You should do a comparison video on those. Good video here as well.
I will. I have assembled a couple but I need a few more. Probably January- Feb

Maybe Ryobi’s impact driver beats DeWalt’s regular atomic driver for TORQUE, I mean.

@@HVACShopTalk the impact rated 1/2" hex shank socket driver...
Got it.

Sounds like it would make a good addition, then for moderate projects

Great test!! Noticed the Ryobi is an HP version and wonder if it would have done better with an HP battery instead of the standard one?
This Ryobi comes in A kit with the standard battery. This drill does not have the extra terminals that some of the other HP tools have.
it's bad drill. Buy the big HP brother. A lot better
