Penny Hardaway is truly a LEGEND. The GOAT 🐐 of Memphis College Basketball. If it weren't for he's knee injury earlier in his NBA career. He could have won a Championship ring. And into the ranks of Bird, Magic, MJ, Pippen, Shaq, Kobe, A.I., LeBron, Olajuwon, and many other Hall of Famer. God bless Penny. Thank you for your great skills and talent, and contribution to sports of basketball 🏀 👏
Shaq and Penny and Nick and 3D were a team that could have won a couple of titles if they stayed together!! Fortunately got a chance to see them as a kid in Orlando. ✊🏽✊🏽
Coach Hill and the Orlando Magic management fucked the finals up, allowing Shaq to be in the studio recording his album. Allowing 3D flying around on a jet ski and Penny being the whole day, every day in the mall with Nick Anderson. Brian Hill made no adjustments, allowed them to play calculated sloppy defense on which Huston could answer quickly. He never allowed Shaq to play defense 1 on 1 against The Dream and them Houston guards smelled blood and caught fire. I watched those games probably thousands of times on VHS and it brakes my heart every single time! I was a huge Penny fan since day one. Like AI said Mike was his guy, Penny was my guy. Never wanted to be like Mike, I wanted to be like Penny! Patterned my game after him, rocked the same goatee, had his shoes, have his white, blue and black jerseys, by now 23 cards, a book and my biggest dream is to meet coach Hardaway, sit down with him and just chat for an hour or two! I know I´m bias here, but without injuries he might be the best point guard to ever step foot on the basketball floor and probably top 5 players of all time!
Shaq played 1 on 1 defense numerous times in that series, particularly G2. He was getting in foul trouble also both him and Grant had to leave the basket area a lot on defense Brian Hill shouldn't be getting the blame for that the Rockets were simply providing matchup problems for them, actually more than the Bulls the following year. Even in the Bulls sweep the Magic had injuries which played a factor in that, I know they had the big 2nd half collspse in G2 but they had no chance winning that series regardless with all the injuries they had.
@@ChrisM07 yeah, numerous times but not the whole time. But that's just the small part. The biggest part is Brian Hill allowing players to focus on other things instead of focusing to get that chip. On an Open Court episode 3D admitting what they were doing before the finals, and that they had other things in their heads. Even in minor leagues if you have chance to win the chip you docus 110% on the task and not on jet skiing, recording albums or shopping....
@@NeverNotHoopin Shaq needed help sometimes on defense, the Rockets were doing the same thing sometimes they double teamed and other times they didn't. Another thing about the Rockets was they relied more on team ball rather than PG play in their system which made it extremely difficult to gameplan for them, they had 5 players that led the 10 top in assists that playoffs and another player in the top 20.
One of the best teams ever really. Maturity and staying together they could of won some titles. Who knows if Shaq stayed what would of happend. When he left the team went downhill putting all the load on Penny and he got hurt. What if always sounds good and it didn't happen. Still one of my favorite teams to watch growing up.
Nick Anderson was one of the best two way players and 3D was the best three point shooter in the league they were a incredible squad wasn't just the Shaq and Penny show they had a squad running teams out of the gym.
And to think they booed the commissioner when he said Orlando traded the drafts of C.webb to GSW for Penny but quickly forgot about C.Webb after Penny suited up and balled out.
I was lucky enough to grow up in Orlando and my father had season tickets from the inaugural season in 89 up until 96-97. Hands down Nick “the quick” Anderson is still one of my all time favorite players. Lol don’t even get me started with 3D. I got lucky and attended Magic basketball camp as a young teen. Best sports memories of all time. I also went to high school with Shaqs two sisters and half brother. Those were the days!
Orlando magic was unstoppable team force wrecking with penny hardaway nick Anderson Shaq Grant Dennis Scott 3D that's was fun team to watch now new era young talent guys this year will make to the playoffs maybe NBA finals big dance only time will tell stay healthy no injuries play as a team let's go magic all the way
Well I'm Magic fan but the problem was Jordan and Chicago Bulls, they missed that opportunity when Jordan retired to win 2 championships and Houston didn't miss that opportunity.
Got swept by the Houston Rockets in the Finals. Shaq's weakness was free throw shooting. He invented a new version of Kareem's sky hook - the jump hook.
Penny Hardaway was the TRUTH! Top 15 ALL TIME if his knees don't go on him! He had 3 good years, then should of Retired into his 4th year when Penny's Knees were shot!
Damn!!! I never knew N Anderson shaved points in the Finals. It doesn't take a scientist to understand that's why he missed 4 free throws in a row. All that ACTING upset gave it away.
And to think they booed the commissioner when he said Orlando traded the draft rights of C.webb to GSW for Penny but quickly forgot about C.Webb after Penny suited up and balled out C.webb was a force but nonthing like Penny, one cent was a generational talent one of a kind will never be another Penny periodt his skillset was phenomenal and we didn't get to see his highest ceiling because of injuries probably would of surpassed Mj as the G.o.a.t of all G.o.a.t.s
Lmao. “Launching a Dynasty in the 90’s” , Jordan said I don’t THINK so children. And no, Dennis Scott was NOT “the player that made the 3-pt shot relevant”.. That was Larry Bird like what are you talkin about. And after him, Reggie Miller took it even further. Scott just followed along what Reggie set forth. Also, Shaq & Chris Webber would’ve been insane. Best center in the game and the best PF in the game; Prime Shaq & Prime Webber could’ve been the best front court to ever be assembled.
Think if Chicago had of beat Orlando that year in the playoffs they would of had the experience to beat Houston in the finals Bulls would of at least ended up with probably 8-9 rings maybe 10 who knows but Orlando had no experience or a good enough coach to beat Rockets
The Bulls had Kukoc at PF they didn't have the personnel to go far in the playoffs much less any chance against the Rockets. That Rockets team was extremely difficult to beat in general because they didn't use the standard system every other team did with the PG often running the offense the Rockets used a more diverse facilitating system which consisted of team ball. The Magic had a 39-2 home record that year which played a big factor in them winning the East. Even against the Rockets they collapsed towards the end of G1 at home which practically ended the series, they obviously should've won that game.
@@Iamdasouth What gets overlooked is the Bulls didn't play the usual 7/8 seed first the Hornets were a 4 seed so it wasn't like the Bulls had an easy 1st round matchup or anything. The Hornets were a good matchup for the Bulls because they were a small team outside of Mourning, the Magic were bigger even Penny at PG was 6-7. The Bulls had to change the roster around afterwards to matchup better not just getting Rodman but also letting BJ Armstrong go. The Bulls saw how the Rockets were defending the Magic with Drexler and Elie being the ones guarding Penny in the 4th quarter that along with Shaq getting double teamed less in the 4th made it difficult for the Magic to get good looks. The Bulls duplicated that defensive scheme in 96 with Pippen being the primary defender on Penny often and playing Shaq 1 on 1 doubling when he wasn't expecting it.

Same here. Huge Penny fan growing up… in Cali. I still have his jersey hanging in my house as we speak.

The greatest, most electrifying team to never win the championship.
This team was so fun to watch. I wish Shaq had stayed in Orlando and Penny had stayed healthy.
Nope that honor goes to the 2016 Warriors

The starting five Orlando had that season was just huge. As for Nick Anderson, he was one of the three best two-way guards that season.

He's one of the worst true shooters . He'd need to be a better free throw shooter n he be good
Why you showing age of players ? Maybe be better to show some facts or stats of that year
