      I have two greatest of all time starting five teams. Penny Hardaway is my first team and that's because I grew up an Isaiah Thomas fan. However when Penny came into the league I was an instant fan. I truly enjoyed the battles he had with MJ. Especially when Penny and Shaq sent MJ home to go to the finals. It's totally disgusting how the NBA has yet to induct Penny into the Hall of Fame. Without Penny Hardaway the Orlando Magic don't make it to the finals that season. Even with a young dominant Shaq Orlando don't get past MJ without Penny. He's one of the few guards MJ couldn't contain or stop from getting 25 or 30 no matter where they played. Go back and watch the highlights of Penny vs MJ. Penny was dominant from the beginning. He didn't have to come off the bench like Kobe. He was an immediate impact for Orlando on the entire NBA.

    The 2 series between the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic in 1995 and 1996 were classics. The 1995 Orlando Magic were the reason the Chicago Bulls started Ron Harper (6-6) with Michael Jordan (6-6) to matchup with Orlando's tall guards Penny Hardaway (6-7) and Nick Anderson (6-6). That's how good the Orlando Magic were back in the mid 90's. I really miss that era!

    • @CEEBEE4369

      Ron Harper always started. Had nothing to do with Penny. Harp wasn't really a point guard and didnt bring the ball up a lot (scottie/toni/mike) but he was a good defender and knew how to run the triangle. He started at guard on the lakers teams too for the same reason. Had nothing to do with matchups.

    • @nationalchampions
      @nationalchampions 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CEEBEE4369 Ron Harper was taken out of the starting lineup once Michael Jordan returned. Ron Harper shared the starting position with Pete Myers at shooting guard once MJ retired in 1993. After Penny Hardaway abused BJ Armstrong and Steve Kerr at the point guard position in the 1995 playoffs BJ was traded because he wanted more money than the Bulls were willing to pay him and Harper was inserted into the starting lineup the following season 95-96. YOU CAN BELIEVE WHAT YOU WANT I'm stating actual facts because I live through it. 1980 BORN!

      Ron Harper started for nearly two years on the Bulls 94 and 95. Yes you are correct he came off the bench for the 17 or so games that Jordan came back to end the 95 season and the all of the playoffs. He then went on to start for the next 3 championship runs after B.J. got picked in the expansion draft by the Raptors (Bulls never traded him).
      And penny wasn't abusing Steve Kerr and B.J. They were never primarily responsible for Penny on defense. Watch the games again. He was giving buckets to Michael and Scottie in 95'. And then again in 96' even tho they got swept.
      Ron Harper never started in the 95' series against the Magic. They never attempted to "matchup" with the taller Magic backcourt.
      Him being inserted in the lineup in 96' was becuase B.J was gone and he complimented Michael and Scottie on defense. Had nothing to do with matchups for one team. People forget Harp was a dog (20 and 5) in LA just before he got hurt. He wasn't a bum.

    loved penny&shaq. his 360 stop, jump and shoot was so unique... yet that's why you stay in school, the physics of how that blasts your knees shifting momentum on that structure of body puts insurmountable stress on those knees... his injuries were predictable. if he stayed in school and really learned the math behind his craft, he would be playing 15+ years and be a top 25-50 all time. This guy came guns blazing as a rookie and would learn to elevate his game. He was just too good and too athletic. and man o man i miss lil penny.

    PENNY DA LEGEND. One of the most electrifying elements of the Golden 90s and Shaq said it perfectly, of the wings not named Jordan of that era going into the 2000s Penny is without a doubt in the top tier. History will be very favorable to him, being that impactful in evolving the guard position and the game of basketball (MJ voice). Terrific video!

    I think people that didn't see him play before he got hurt and weren't around for lil penny have no idea how great he was, and how much of a name that he was making with lil Penny. When the Penny shoes came out every guy in my class wanted them (they were sweet sneakers!) I would put him in the hall of fame. I wish he hadn't gotten hurt, I would have loved to see him have had the career he should have had

    Put it this way... after watching him play only a few games with the Magic, I was wowed. And living only a couple hours away from Orlando I was a fan. And I was thinking to myself, he's our 'Jordan'! Loved his authoritative dunks that seemed to come outta nowhere. I remember thinking how cool he looked, with nice flare. And I was only 5 years his senior, so I could relate to him generation-wise. I also have this memory that sticks with me... When I bought my next pair of Nikes I was thinking, maybe I can look as cool as Penny at my next pick up game with these. 😆 That's how much he took over my basketball world.

    Penny was the best of both worlds (Magic & MJ). He was what I call a quiet storm who could take over a game whenever he wanted but mostly reserved it for when he needed to because he had Shaq. He didn’t have to be the man all the time during those golden years.

    Penny was a Faster, more Athletic and more Dynamic Scottie Pippen, but he was a true PG. Without a shadow of a doubt, PENNY HARDAWAY WOULD'VE BEEN A TOP 5 NBA PLAYER OF ALL TIME !!! Kobe before Kobe, he came in Trained to Go. The damn injuries detail the possibilities. Penny, Grant Hill, D.Rose and Greg Oden are the Biggest Ones. They would all be Top 10s and perhaps Penny/Grant/Rose would make a case for the GOAT conversations. Its absolutely Felonious that Penny is not in the Hall of Fame.

  • @mecan2
    @mecan2 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Those first years of Penny have been a game changer! Anfernee Hardaway was the beginning of a new generation which was to come with Kobe. A lot of future stars admired young Penny!
    Shaq's story is sweet and on point!
    He just wasn't the same after an injury in his 4th or 5th season. When he got to Phoenix, he already lost his magic.
    Yes, he carried the Magic without Shaq and got traded to Phoenix with some promise, but already then he wasn't the same.
    To me, Penny was the best player of the world in his second and third season, I was lit up! I loved his ball handling, movement, vision, everything!
    But you can't give him a place in the Hall of Fame for this. The Hall of Fame has no place for "if only he didn't got injured". It is what it is.
    Penny has something much more worthful! Penny has the experience of what he has done. And he has certainly lit up the NBA when he stepped up. He was All Star, Dream Team II, Finalist, Nike Shoes
    And the best of it: he knows the feeling of facing Michael Jordan eye to eye, chances equal!

    I grew in orlando. Born and raised here. Penny was my idol. Like seriously. I studied his game relentlessly. There's not a video on TH-cam of penny highlights that i havent seen. So its ironic that robert horry threw out the lamelo ball name as comparison because i didnt follow lamelo youth playing ball but took notice of his game when he got to the NBA and to me its the closes resemblance to a penny hardaway type game that ive seen. Their games are obviously different but when melo pushed the ball in the open court, fast breaks is when i see shades of penny's game the most. And also he confidence and swag was similar to penny when he was first coming out as well.

    People dont realize the talent that was coming through Orlando and the dynasty they could have created if the Orlando Magic Organization didnt eff things up. Of course there are sliding doors moments and some of the decisions wouldn't have gotten made, but they had all the pieces. They had shaq, penny, Horace, Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady all within a few short years of each other. Now imagine if they got it totally right. Penny was my fav player after MJ! I couldn’t believe when he got hurt he never recovered! He was the face of the league when MJ retired! Played and lead the last team to Beat MJ’s Bulls in the playoffs! Put Chris Rock on before he was Chris Rock as the voice of Lil Penny! Idk if anyone other than Jordan has a signature shoe that sales more then Penny and for a player with a super short prime like this is pretty wild! He was a 6’7 playing pg kinda like Magic/Bron hybrid! He could score at will at anytime and get to any spot at anytime and pass like I’ve never seen! He was the first what if to me… had he never got hurt NBA history would be different fasho! Salute Penny!

    In terms of style and how seamless and beautiful his game was, Penny at one point was my favorite player. However, it's hard to make an argument that he belongs in the Hall of Fame. As much as it hurts to say, his career and impact could've been there if he had at least another 3 years of high level basketball. T-Mac had a Hall of Fame career since he had about 8 years (average of let's round to 28-7-6) where he was a superstar level talent with all the international recognition and impact from a marketing perspective.
    The unfortunate truth is Penny was that for only about 4 years where he didn't even hit his true prime (22-5-7) and I could see his numbers go up to 25-6-11 if he continued his playmaking style or if he transitioned more into a scorer to be more of a 29-6-7 type of player. We can say Grant Hill was also hitting his stride and could've been a 28-9-8 kind of talent and he had more prime years than Penny but even making a case for him to be in the Hall of Fame is difficult. I just hope the job in Memphis gives him a real chance to be in the Hall of Fame. Even someone like Derrick Rose you can see his numbers go up to something like 32-5-9 if he continued his trajectory into the modern era. As much as I love wishing that was the case, the longevity just wasn't there in their cases. T-Mac barely cuts it with him having a long enough prime even though it had injuries mixed in but he performed well enough over a long period of time for it to count.

    Penny was definitely one of my favorites in the league, and other than the Bulls, I actually thought the Magic were a fun team to watch because of Shaq and Penny. I wish Shaq would've stayed in Orlando, and Penny would've been healthy. That would've been a tough team for the Bulls to beat AFTER 96 had the Magic found a way to make it work (yet I still believe the Bulls would've beaten them anyway).
