Davis Cup - Melbourne, Australia in January 1954.
Various shots of a tennis match for the Davis Cup between Lewis A Hoad and Trabert. Very good natural sound (audience reactions and umpire). Also L/Ss of the players between sets, changing shoes, having a rest and so on.
Note: Hoad eventually won the cup in final match against Vic Seixas - see separate record for details.

It’s flowing and beautiful, his serve, isn’t it?

Hoad makes a very modern-day return of serve at 8:08. Takes a true swing and rips it. No chip or slice, just goes for an all-out winner.

Love the way Hoad is standing on or inside the baseline to return serve.

Lew Hoad was a gorgeous tennis player. What an athlete he was.

This match disproving the assumption that players using wooden racquets, could rarely use both power and accuracy, in their shot making.
    Superb match.

I grew up playing with wooden racquets and my serve was my biggest weapon. Its the one shot you could practice by yourself I had a booming serve

This match was the famous 1953 Davis Cup final in December 1953, probably the most famous Davis Cup match ever played.

How is the resolution of this video better than videos in the 60s 70s 80s and even some 90s matches?

Give the 10 year olds wooden racquets and play on a grass court. See how they do. Or, allow these Davis Cuppers to train for a few months with modern composite racquets using modern strings on a slower hard court and see how they do. Oh, and allow them to do a jump serve and watch the service speed rocket up.

Its very difficult for fans today to understand how great these guys were. I hit with both Panchos, Rosewall, Laver. All amazing@@RandallvanOosten-ln5wf
