My dad was 14 years old when he first went to this gym. He was deadlifting 135 lbs when Doug told him, “Wrong way, kid,” then picked up the bar with one hand and pressed it. They became good friends, and Doug encouraged me to start lifting at age 12. There was another wrestler and bodybuilder who worked out there named Nick Muhammed, who won bronze in the Olympics for Canada. They wrestled many times, with Doug able to break out of the holds, while Nick was able to get him to the ground. I showed my dad this video, and he knows over half the people in it.
I was freinds with Doug for the last 10yrs of his life. He could still hold out a 65lbs dumbell at arms length straight armed. I followed his program and deadlifted 835lbs could chat 735 and bench press 455. at 212. lbs body weight Drug free. I witnessed coaches from the chinese olympic team visit him at his office for private seminars and 4 yrs later they won every thing at the world games in vancouver. when Doug offered to train Canadian athletes for room and board they blew him off. Doug only ever recived 1100 a month pension and I use to bring him soya milk and veggie somosas. Rip. Master❤

Which training program did you use exactly? Hepburn had more. I think sometimes it is too much (8*2 then 5*5) and cannot recover from.
Great video and insight of Doug and this time frame of lifting.
Doug was one of the greatest lifters. Also a great video showing old timers.
the dude doing a million handstand pushups on the bars of the bench press is pretty impressive too! 😮
This is amazing seeing Doug in his prime 👍🏻
Doug sounds like a surgeon. It's so clinical. Very much the same bearing of a doctor.
Great video thank you
How cool is this video.
He lifted the 280 lbs like it was 10 lbs 😂
Young teens lift that today🎉🎉
He was on STeriods. 😮😮 test. Was being used in the early 1940. And the comments are wrong the weight is far less than 500.
That body builder is on test😮😮 it's been around since 1940
