    I agree with you, for a beginner or as a gift for a child to introduce them to hydroponics, it's great, because considering the price, it's a complete kit, and it works well, even if it's not perfect.

    I originally watched this last year. I moved into a tiny condo two years ago. After two summers of total garden losses on the patio due to extreme heat, I’m converting a walk in closet to an indoor hydroponics grow room. I bought an 8 pod unit that failed within hours of starting it up (Water leaked into the electrical housing and shorted out the light and pump. A brown sludge leaked onto my countertop). I returned it and tried a different brand. I’m two weeks in and so far, so good. My lettuce is about 6”. The plan is to use an 8 pod system to start pepper and cucumber seeds that will be transferred into an 8 bucket DWC system. Smaller units will be used for micro dwarf tomatoes, micro dwarf peas, leafy greens and herbs. I will only plant half of the pods and cover the openings on the unused pods. While most of the units will be in the closet/grow room, I have the “test” unit on the shelf with my house plants. I’ll probably put a few units with aromatic herbs/flowers (like lavender in the bedroom) with the house plants. (My condo is part library and part jungle😅). I wish I could put a unit in the kitchen but I very little counter space and only keep two sprouting jars and an aloe plant.
    I haven’t totally given up on the patio. My citrus survived and maybe I’ll try carrots, onions and garlic this fall.

    It's good for one person, maybe two but don't feel the need to plant every pod, just pick three types to grow and use the front three pod locations to space them out.

    They are not only for beginners. As a matter of fact I think a beginner would be disappointed and frustrated but I understand it the term beginner compared to other hydroponics systems other people have with more complex setups. I have 8 of these tabletop units ( not this brand in particular) but similar. With 21 pots each and it has been amazing for me. Things to consider first I researched extensively on hydroponics, nutrient, problems most likely to encounter and the right type of veggies to grow before I even bought my first. Second you need way more than one unit to see any kind of impact or yield otherwise is just a hobby. I prefer these to DWC and tents because I want to grow inside my house and I need it to look nice and well put together since is in my living room as part of the “decoration”. I can’t use my garage cause is too cold in winter and too hot in summer. Indoors my plants enjoy the same temperature we enjoy without me having to control their environment.

    I think these kind of systems are great for small scale propagation. It's a production-ready system where you don't need to think about anything and it looks definetly nicer than a spider farmer sf300 with a propagation tray underneath. Its also really low maintainance, you can leave it for a few days if you are abscent. Seedlings in a propagation will probably die after a week with no fresh water.
    I agree that this system is way to small for anything else. For me, I only have 6 dutch buckets and one 3D printed hydroponic tower. 12 propagation slots are plenty for me!

    We’ve got a similar one that has more holes. It works great as a starter. We get good roots fast and then transfer to our outdoor NFT.

    Hello Hoocho! I want to get the 12 pod version of this but I'm worried about the growing medium to use because shipping the replacement pods to my country is too expensive. You mentioned you could use something else on those baskets. I have access to coconut coir. Would that work?

    • @SirenaSpades
      @SirenaSpades ปีที่แล้ว

      I think coconut coir, or peat would work. I think you could even line the pods with a netting and use most anything, because the system is using a fertilizer, as long as you have a filter over the pump, so if you are using soil or something, the pump doesn't suck it up.

    There will always be some amount of light pollution as it's unlikely that anyone will ever use this system in a room with no other light source. But I think it's not a bad introduction for someone who is totally new to hydroponic gardening and only needs a small amount of greens and is a beginner gardener.

    Can anyone offer advice please... I set up my first hydroponics system at the start of Jan. I have Red and Sweet Basil, Coriander Confetti, Tomato Micro Tom, Egyptian Round Leaf Mint, Flat Leaf and Curly Leaf Parsley in a Yoocaa 12 Hydroponics Growing System. Everything is growing well, I've been learning about pruning different plants from TH-cam.
    My Qs: When I want to clean the water out and replace with fresh - ① Do I literally lay the top section on its side ?...... ② Can that harm the plants ?...... I noticed you had some roots cut off and left in the tank, so - ③ Is it ok to snipp off some roots if they are taking up too much space and entangling the pump and roots of other plants ? I would be massively grateful for some answers asap - Many thanks ~x~ 👍🏼 🌱

    CL4 and 6 are muck, reject bin that some trader decided to sell. they can get a faulty 64GB card, mark most of it bad, and sell it as a 16GB CL4 card

    I thought seeds didn't need nutrients during the process of sprouting and instead it could be harmful. This experiment seems to prove that wrong.

    • @SeamusHarper1234
      @SeamusHarper1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well they don't need it, but it also does not really hurt. These systems are aimed at beginners, who don't want to think about nutrients and when to put them in. It's a waste of nutrients on a propagation tray, but the plants will eat them up after an initial growth phase..
