- Join Ivan and team for part 2 as they continue with the rebuild of the 10L Hall Scott engine out of the 1914 Peugeot Indy 500 race car.. This episode shows the further rebuild of the engine , including fitting the pistons, barrels and getting it running.

Yet another cinematic marvel Ivan/John great entertainment.
John's face was a picture when it fired up.... I could almost hear the "hoo hoooo, listen to that!"

I can imagine Ivan's Shed 300 years from now and Ivan is talking about the latest project from Starfleet Command:
" I remember when Starfleet ask me to move the shed to high earth orbit...they gave me a ton of money but they were quite put off by the amount of bits and pieces I had laying about that they had to move up there for me...well it worked out for them because a few years later John remembered we had some new old stock dilithium crystals stuffed away in a corner and we figured out how to get them to work in the main engines...we were tinkering about one day getting them sorted...when we were done we sprayed some wd40 on them and hit the starter...the bloody thing took off at such a rate they had to rename it warp speed...we were gone 5 minutes but they had to go on a 5 year mission to find us...they don't let us test drive star ships any more...but it was worth it...anyway, check back next week as Duncan Pittaway is dropping off a Klingon warship with a wonky cloaking device..."
Excellent shed workmanship. Thanks for the videos. I wish Ivan had a microphone on him so I could hear his words of wisdom a little better and less background noise. Maybe start an Amazon wish list and see what happens! 🍻

That engine is a monster! Each cylinder has nearly twice the capacity of my entire car. Reckon you'd beat me in a straight line, but I'd have you hands down in the corners. Now, if I could get a 10 litre engine into a Mazda 2...
thanks for the crankshaft/flywheel explanation. I'm only 76, but sometimes the fog around brain can get thick. so if you don't remember how you fixed it yesterday, dream up a way to fix it today. the advantage of being 70+ is that you've probably forgotten more that the kids know. you guys be safe and keep having fun.

Made a bit of mess with the Tiger seal......im sure it could look better than that lol. But everything you do works and brings you a lifetime of joy so the state of your Tiger seal seems small fry. Great channel. Cant fake this stuff.

Store it in the fridge it lasts for months !
Same goes for super glue, that lasts for years when chilled

Two masterpieces of engineering Ivan and the engine!
I used to maintain a fleet of Hall Scott A 590 motors in Crown Coach Buses. The Hall Scotts were engineered and built to the highest standards possible. I called them automotive jewelry.. Always wanted to build a car around them, kinda like a salt flats art deco speeder. As life often makes plans for you this dream has not yet come to fruition. We will see ......

The rods are the longest I think I've ever seen. It must have lots of torque. No smoke to speak of even at first start. Well done gents!

Fantastic Hall Scott built some huge petrol engines used to tank transporters called Pacific’s during WW2 they spat fire so we’re called Dragon Waggon’s

Years ago I had a Muncie input shaft that had twisted ever so slightly that caused the same problem you are experiencing. I hadn’t seen it before at that time but now know it’s quite a common problem.
I am amazed at your technical knowledge and your meticulous attention to detail. The sweet running engine attests to all you both have done.

Another great video! It looks like I need to get some tiger seal! I had a very similar layout Hall Scott engine in a Holt/ Caterpillar 2 ton tractor. The Hall Scott company originated in Berkeley CA. Hall Scott engines were popular in aircraft, marine, trucks and fire apparatus.
Just thought I’d let you know how much I’m enjoying your channel. I found it by chance when browsing for new content. I always go for engineering and bike related (usually Harley) channels and yours is quite unique. Have subscribed and am eagerly awaiting more content. Thank you!

Some years back, a mate wanted a five speed gearbox for his V8 Mercedes. The only one he could find was a 5 speed from a fur cylinder car. He found they have a small input shaft and this was prone to breaking so he got a Diesel input shaft and cut the gear off,did the same to the smaller part and welded the shafts together. It is still going well despite burnouts etc.
RE Flywheels, In the US, Drasg racers have found that running heavier flywheels is actually increasing their perfomance ,so Ivan is on the right path,.

That was a great watch - what a fantastic piece of engineering. Much quieter and smoother than I was expecting, and can’t believe how cleanly it runs with your piston mods. The lovely thing about huge old aero engines is that everything is big and on display, and running so slowly that you can see the engineering principles in action in real time. Looking forward to seeing the road test 👍😊
Wikipedia tells me Hall Scott was founded in 1910 in California. It lasted for 50 years, all the way to 1960.
As always what a treat to see Ivan john and the team at work , we all cross our fingers for the first start of a engine that's been apart , and you guys nailed now that's what i call a sweet first start , looking forward to seeing you make this distributor improvements and the road test , a couple of questions what rpm do you usually get the engine to idle at and what sort of rpm do you rev it too , kind regards Nigel
