- Austin Dillon unceremoniously dumped Joey Logano then hooked Denny Hamlin coming to the checkered flag to score a massive upset win at Richmond, but did Dillon's last-lap tactics cross the line?
In this clip from PRN's Fast Talk, Alexis Erickson, Brad Gillie and Doug Rice give their thoughts on the controversial finish, plus we'll hear what Austin Dillon had to say after the race. We'll also hear from NASCAR's Elton Sawyer, who says the sanctioning body will review Sunday's finish at Richmond for potential penalties.
Brad Gillie shares a strong opinion, saying what Austin Dillon did is simply unacceptable and calls on NASCAR to make a ruling to prevent this kind of move in the future. Gillie points to audio from Dillon's in-car communication telling him to wreck a competitor and Dillon's own admission that he crashed Logano and Hamlin, saying he "had to" crash them to make the playoffs and win the CookOut 400.

Elton: "We're gonna wait to look at everything & collect all the data before we make a decision..." In English, that means "We're gonna take a week to see how public opinion plays out & how much of a boost we get on our social media..." What a joke. Too many people talking crap about how Logano & Hamlin deserved it, karma, etc.. I can't stand Logano/Denny is one of the drivers I root for. Take them out of the equation entirely & replace them with ANY other pair of drivers & then tell me what Dillon did is acceptable.... I'll wait. Dillon had that race won (for the first time in two years RCR finally gave him a decent car), his pit crew did THEIR job & got him out in 1st place. DILLON screwed the pooch on the restart & SHOULD have lost the race. He wrecked TWO cars for the win to make up for his failure as a driver. Period.
A decision is being made either tomorrow or Wednesday and they'll be on this week's penalty report
He didn’t do what he “had” to do. Dillon did what he “wanted” to do.
Dillon done what Joey and Denny and Jimmy Johnson and Earnhardt Sr. and a whole list of other drivers who it seems like they want to forget now, that they didn't do it. They sure are good 😢. Now they are planning on wrecking him like they did Chastain, Has everyone forgot how different drivers done him? NASCAR should have let them race and not seem like they are showing favorites. He really looks that way on TV.

I’m a Logano fan. Obviously with his reputation I don’t expect him to get much sympathy. Dillon just picked the worst car to wreck though. Joey ain’t exactly known to turn the other cheek.
Right hooking Hamlin into the wall so quickly after driving through Logano has nothing to do with talent, it’s strictly reactionary! At that point he was going to blatantly take out anyone between him and the checkered flag in any way that worked.

I was there, and I am team Logano. I was flipping off the replay. I can tell you Joey wasn't "crying" he was pissed. People these days can't tell the difference because mommy and daddy step in front and solve their real-life problems for them.

If Dillon's Wrecking out Lagano stands, then it is Okay for All of NASCAR Drivers to Totally Wreck out the cars ahead or beside them so we should then see only two Cars at the End driving Crashing Out one another and to end up having one 1 Driver Actually end up crossing the end Finish Line and only that 1 Car finish the Race
Yes Lagano has use the Tap and Run in the Past but Never has he Driven Pedal to the Floor and Drove right thru his Competition to Wreck someone out of a Race to end them from finishing the race!!!
Again if this is acceptable then We will have a high speed Crash up Derby going forward and the deliberate Wrecking out All Competition...
A bunch of reasons for fan reaction. First it's the 3 car they don't win much a different winner is always good. Denny and Joey win more consistently. And they've been known to dump people as well ask Kenseth Elliot and Danika Patrick so. Plus the fans know the win was his the person who should've won won. Why would stenhouse drive the corner like that for what 20th?? Probably done pn purpose. Because once that last caution came out Dillon was cooked. He had the best car. But he's far from the best driver. Noway he winning on the restart against them unless he did what he did
That's a well thought out and level headed description of what went down, agree with every point. NAPCAR created this monster with this win-and-in scenario.

IMO they should let Austin keep the win, and then suspend him for the next race for the rear hooking of Denny’s car, and then not grant him a playoff waiver. That’s what I think Nascar should do but well they do it NO! How I see it is the Joey thing sure I’ll give him that one but the one I can’t look past is the hooking of Denny, they have Drew a line in the sand for rear hooking a car on track. Idc if it’s a short track or not. They suspended Wallace and they suspended Chase Elliott for doing it so this shouldn’t be any different imo, I’m not even a fan of those drivers, I’m a Larson fan.

Why would a baby be on pit road with drivers exiting a live racetrack? I wouldn't do that with anyone, let alone a baby.

NASCAR has been trying to level the field by making everyone have the same exact car, controlling the parts they must use etc. it’s not working as the same elite teams win the majority of the races, this is why they are fine with Dillon winning no matter that it was ugly to many, deliberately wrecking someone needs to be a huge penalty just for integrity reasons or the sport is not even worth taking it seriously to us fans of pure racing.
Do whatever it takes. They all do it. And a non driver type of woman should have no say in any of this. Just saying

i will give you a fine example about fricking rule's?.. in all sport's there are thing's that can change who win's the game or race?.. for example! what about in basketball?.. they have the rule where you can purposely foul at the end of the game to save time?.. and sometime's the team fouling end's up winning?.. you get me?. that is an example of bending the rule's to win?.. i say... if you can get to the bumper and hit it?.. then your in my way!!!! and hamlin came up the track to hit him?.. you are trying to liberalize nascar..

NASCAR created this situation with the chase. They have not punished rough driving, so until they do, you non-racing talking heads need to shut up. Logano and Hamlin have been driving this way for years; now they complain about Austin. I don't like this type of racing, but NASCAR can come up with a workable solution to this problem in the off season and finally put a stop to it.

I disagree, Earnhardt had much better car control and could just move someone. If he wanted to wreck someone he could but there is NO comparison.
