Emperor Dele Ojo was my neighbour in Ibadan Nigeria. I lived there from 1977- 1983 with my husband. Emperor Ojo and his family were really welcoming to us and I still remember him, his beautiful wife and lovely respectful children. I really loved my time in Nigeria and still miss it. ❤
I met him couple of times at his Felele Ibadan home. My close friend was his nephew. I knew his beautiful daughters namely Bukky, Yetunde, Tayo back then also. This is my favourite and his only song I know. RIP sir

FYI The song called Terena is a folklore by Dele Ojo and he called it 'Alo Oko ati Aya' meaning the story of a Husband and his Wife. The wife came into the home and addressed the husband as Awe (a pedestrian name for every male in their cultural setting) The husband rejected the appellation insisting that the wife MUST always address him as BABA. The wife rejected this and would always address him as 'Awe’. So he decided to show her his capabilities, and make her respectful of him. He devised a plan and asked her to follow him on a journey to the farm. On the way to the farm, he stopped and asked for the last time, "will you address me as Baba or I show you my worth” to which her reply was “God forbid that I address you as Baba" At that point, he changed into a snake. Upon seeing the snake, she knelt and sang sonorously and the snake crept away and re-emerged as an elephant. Thereafter he transformed into a balls of fire which now came upon her from the front, back, right and left approaching her in a bid to burn her. There I am tonight, glass of single malt scotch in hand as I reflect on the ubiquitous havoc the covid 19 pandemic is wrecking out there. There's a sudden rush, almost trandescental in a way, to listen to this song from long ago that I relished as a youth growing up in Nigeria. Thank you late Captain Jide Ojo for the memory tonite, for a song recapturing my Ijesha ancestry and for allowing me to trip to a mystical dimension without the distraction of covid 🙏🏾🙏🏾
