FYI It's okay to remove chlorine that way but it WON'T remove chloramine or fluoride. You'll need to know what your local municipality uses. Great video BTW 👍

Burping the bottle is EXTREMELY important. However hilarious (I now know my husband's fight or flight is definitely flight because he flew for the hills), I now have a purple grape stain on my kitchen ceiling and had a huge mess all over my kitchen to clean up after my 16 Oz bottle exploded worse then a bottle of Bubbly Shaken on New Years Eve, when I popped the top. It had only been fermenting for 3 days. Tasted amazing though!!!

Maybe the chlorine evaporated but think 🤔 very hard about the Floride and other toxins that will remain in the water. I Know to my surprise my tap water has lead in it. Never trust public drinking water. Fluoride was added to our water to calcify the pineal glands which is where spirituality free thinking and oneness with the universe comes from him giving that advice is very bad and risky numerous places in the United States and in Europe have issued caution statements regarding public water if we're at their Mercy to give us that letter what happens if it never comes? Me personally I experienced last year what they called a beautification of the roads which really they were removing very large water pipes little did I know that my water had been turned off during the day when I was at work I found out later from the neighbor I had been coming home and going about my life like normal because my water had been on when I got home I never received a letter in the mail telling me to boil my water and return my family got very sick from it proving my point that you should never drink tap water unless you distill or minimum boil it first. You can't trust everything that you see on TH-cam videos unfortunately

I dont think you need to shake the bottles to burp them. I usually just loosen the cap real quick to let out some gas and tighten it up. You can also put them in the fridge after 2 or 3 days so it will slow down the gasses.

About 12 grams of dried grains will do great in 1 quart of sugar water. The amount of sugar by weight is about 5 times the amount of dry grains in weight. For 12 grams of grains, use 60 grams of sugar: 30 grams pure white cane and 30 grams unrefined brown sugar.
      Steps:
      1) hydrate 12g dried kefir (keh-feer) grains with about 8 liquid ounces of non-chlorinated, room temperature spring water in a quart jar. Filtered water doesn’t have enough minerals. Hot water will kill the microbes. Stir occasionally until well hydrated (15 minutes).
      2) add the 60 grams of sugar.
      3) fill jar with the correct water 2” from the top brim.
      4) close lid snug and gently shake/stir to fully dissolve sugar.
      5) remove lid and replace with clean lint free cloth and rubber band or even better a lid with an air lock specifically made for your jar.
      6) ferment at room temperature in darkened place for about 2 days: 74° 12-36 hours.
      7) strain and enjoy or ferment liquid again (without grains) and optional flavorings. 2nd fermentation in closed bottles allows for carbonation. Use caution. Burp or test often to avoid explosion.

Water to sugar ratio will be always 4:1, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and a lemon piece, keep it a dark place for 2 to 3 days, you can add dried plums but you should not use any other sweetner like honey etc. you can use white sugar or any organic sugar.

What type of bottles do I use? I know it’s the swing type. I purchased some at Marshall’s. Is there a specific brand or thickness of glass? My first bottle did just fine in the second ferment. The second bottle I made, I burped often and in the evening it exploded with such a force that if I or my kids would have been in the kitchen for sure one would have lost an eye! It shook me. I’m just trying to find out, where to buy bottles that are strong enough for carbonation and I of course burping them. The first bottle was excellent, I’m just shook from the second bottle. I’m afraid to put in fridge and it
explode at our eye level. It might even slit our throat. It went off like a bomb. It’s freakin scary! I saw chard of glass fly like daggers! I don’t want to give up on making second ferments.

So the kefir grains I picked up say to use only a total of 3.75 cups of water (0.5 cup warm water / 0.25 cup sugar / 3 cups room temp water). Nowhere in the instructions do they call for using a full gallon of water like you have in this video. Do you actually need to use more sugar when making a full gallon to give the grains more food to propagate? Seems like if the mixture is not sugary enough it would impact propagation. Thank you.

    • @clunkdunwad4714

Okay watched a different video and learned that once you've done the initial kefir grain rehydration, you can then use 1 cup of sugar for each 1 cup of water, so it sounds easy enough to scale up to have a nearly full gallon of kefir water to which you then add your sweetener / adjunct prior to bottling or canning. Thank you.

Okay thank you but I've never seen anyone wanting to burp the bottle daily you're supposed to wait a few days and then chill it and drink it carbonated

Why are you using flavors? Taste perfectly natural flavor. And more healthy

I thaw out wild blueberries and add for second ferment, or fresh pears are the best. Like drinking soda

If you filled up a coke can of 330 ml how much sugar is left after the fermentation? Normal US coca cola can has 65 grams 😂

All the other videos say not to use any metals. The grains react to it. Just sayin.
