I don't think I've seen a break down on Pharrell skills and tips. Another I haven't seen almost anywhere is one on MF DOOM. Everyone points out his lyrical abilities but not many are knowledgeable of the many fascinating beats he's made in his time living
This is lowkey one of your best videos, it really addressed issues a lot of us producers have, particularly going into autopilot and getting stuck in a habit. Those things are really the antithesis of what being creative is all about.
Small tip... Alch samples often with the turntable pitch at -8 or +8, not sure what exact tuning effect it has on the samples but the outcome is most likely out of tune which combined with anything played over it like a bass line (actually tuned correctly) will result in a bit of dissonance, which in this style of creepy beats is desirable. This also makes it hard to play too much melodic stuff over the samples which explains why he tends add the complexity the way shown here.
hes inspired you to make lazy shit for people who listen to music on headphones/tiny blue tooth speakers. as a lover of bass with a 12" sub in my home and in my car, it sucks listening to rap music that has no knock. sounds castrated.
Listening to Tyler, the Creator made me want to start rapping, Nas made me want to start rapping WELL. In the same light, Ye made me want to start producing, Alchemist made me want to start producing WELL. It’s important to study the greats, as their work is packed with precision and details that most won’t notice but will still appreciate subconsciously. Great breakdown.
He gets creative with sound and that’s not something many artists or makers like to do once they “make it”. Many artists will rinse and repeat the same formula that got them successful until they’re just a former shell of themselves and they get tossed aside for the next producer. Alchemist tends to keep evolving and finding something new and that’s why he’s still relevant and wanted in Hip Hop. I don’t know the guy but I’m very proud of his career.
I'm so glad you broke down his "Broken Bottles" track! It's one of my favorites and also one of the most unique beats I've ever heard. There will only be one Alchemist forever!

I’m just leaving a comment for this algorithm because this video is phenomenal. Fantastic, fantastic breakdowns and it’s apparent you know your stuff. Wonderful points in the video, and I wish you the best in this career.
One thing i think is incredibly important in this kind of hip hop (boom bap, lofi, half time, west coast/La beats) is SPACING giving all your elements a space to breathe and cutting the tails off your sounds can really help add drive and groove to your beat; especially if you have stuff that’s off grid. Big ups Navi, would love to have you on my channel sometime
i really like trapchemist like willie lloyd, 5 to 50, bernadines where he uses those boom bap sounds with trap patterns i think a full tutorial on songs like those would be fire
Man you explain everything so simply, for those that are just starting I recommend listening to any type beats with earphones or your pref, you'll be amazed how you'll get the hang of listening to different layers in that bear and learning their patterns and techniques :)
This video makes me want to use some trap percussion in a boom bap context. I hope you can tip me on how to use a trap snare in a boombap context. Otherwise, this is a pretty great video.
Absolutely brilliant video. I have been doing lots of this technique without really thinking about it. So many good tips here especially filling spaces with different things to think out of the box.
wow bro thanks, you are incredible, I have been watching your tutorials for 2 days and I have learned a lot, I would like to be in your course, I´ll apply. Greetings from Colombia🔈🔉🔊

Very good video indeed! Actually I am not always a fan of your sample beats in the video, but these here were on point. I especially enjoyed the "Boom Bap Drill" hybrid.

Man, you're the most helpful producer on TH-cam by far! Seriously, thank you!! P.s Have you listened to much Tha God Fahim? @@eberg7982 damn that's smart. i know that some keyboards / synths have a function where you can set it to play in any particular key and it will automatically transpose in real time. i feel like mike dean wouldn't need that but it could be useful
What I'd love to hear more insight on is how Alchemist or his main mixing engineer mix his records. How do the samples/textures in his last 10 years of records sound so warm and rich? How does he process his samples to become even better sounding than the originals?
If you enjoyed this, hit like and let me know what producer I should do next!

Al's being drumless these days and it's genius. He has been my main inspiration lately.
And his beats sound so simple, but in fact they're not simple, like you showed here. Alfredo has been on repeat lately. Never gets old.
drumless rap is becoming a main part of my everyday listening. using rhythm in your voice to fill out that aspect of a song is a true talent .

Alchemist has stayed relevant because he never took his foot off the gass and had seeked out great artists to work with that suit his production style
I agree. He seems to always be on the lookout for new artists to work with rather than waiting for people to come to him
It's way more than that. He understands what updating without compromising means.
The Alchemist is my favorite producer! Really like your videos you do about his techniques!
