Why did they even make them all 15-16 when the original version they were 17-18, that’s a massive difference in maturity ESPECIALLY for Americans as they seem to take longer to mature
They were high school sophomores and hadn't yet had their 16th birthdays. In the UK version they were in the lower sixth form or year 12 in the first series and had their 17th birthdays early in the series. That's the equivalent of high school juniors.
The bit I hate most about this show is in the uk version, Donovan (like everything else about the show) is like what the typical solid bully would be like in a school and the type of bloke you don’t want to fuck with, but in the American version he’s not scary at all, every time I see him I just want to chin him one. How anyone would be scared of him is beyond me

They were good-looking enough that fit girls like Charlotte would be interested in them, but average-looking enough that it's understandable why no one wants to be seen dead with them. Whereas the US cast was too good-looking, except for Jay.

What's also worth noting is how normal everyone in the original, they all sounded normal when they spoke. Not to mention each of them actually sounded different. Meanwhile in the American version, they all talk so loudly, something I've never understood about American media, and they all sound so similar. Seriously, listen closely with your eyes closed and you can barely tell their voices apart half the time.
The Jay with the 13 year old reminded me of the work experience episode of the Uk version where Simon gets a valentines card from the girl from the year below then called the kid from the rough housing estate a short arse ending to them hiding from the older lads in the toilet at the under age disco
I think the big difference between them is that in the UK version, it seems less weird when you consider that Simon is 17 and that Hannah Fields would be about 16 since she's only a year below them. The lads are in Year 12 at that point, so she'd be in Year 11. In the US version, it just seems creepy that Jay would date a 13-year-old.

8:01, it's not supposed to be Simon's bollock hanging out at the fashion show.
In the British version of the school trip episode, Simon falls into the ocean when the group take a boat out, so Will tells Niel to strip him, otherwise he'll catch hypothermia.
The American version tried to replicate that by having Will be covered in vomit and having to strip off of his own accord.

If I remember correctly the 13 year old girlfriend plot line carries into the next episode and provides the lowest of low points
Also why did they make the characters 15 instead of 17 going on 18? That right there shows they don’t understand the characters, it’s at that age where they are basically old enough to drink but can’t get served (USA is 21 anyway), you start learning to drive (how does US Simon have his license, is he 16?), a lot of people lose their virginity, end of school so you have to start looking for jobs/uni application. Making them 15/maybe 16 might seem like a small change but it’s big to British characters because it’s the difference between high school and sixth form/proper beginning of adulthood
This series is very enjoyable 😂 only a couple of parts left now
I think they mixed up Neil from the Inbetweeners with Neil from the Young ones on the American version

There’s a scene at the end of the “coach trip” episode where they make Simon stand up in just his underwear so and argument can be made that, that scene is just a knock off version of what we just saw

I kind of agree, but they'd go in a different direction in the UK series. The writers would play it up for laughs. They'd have the episode focus on Jay unknowingly dating a Year 9 and then have it be revealed that they're actually only 13, which leads to a lot of ridicule from the boys and Jay attempting to break up with her. Done right it'd be equal parts embarrassing and equal parts funny.

No education/school based American remake works because of the different ages that things happen compared to the UK. Age you're at school and not 6th form/college, drinking, driving etc...
