Am discord admin. Can confirm
@@notverysur3rightnow145 do you like kids as much as me 😈🤤
@@santashanker4354 I like them more
Memeulous made the same joke a later episode
And don't forget they turned Jay into a pedofile
The fire plot line is probably adapted from the roadside flowers joke in the original when Gilbert makes Will find out who did it
That period scene should legally be illegal. Like, wtf was that.
Deffo stolen from Superbad
The Jay kissing his underage girlfriend scene was gag worthy. I know the original Inbetweeners had paedo/ nonce jokes but there was something about that scene that was way to graphic and grotesque. Why did the producers think that was an appealing storyline?
Because they don't understand British humour
Because he's supposed to be 15 but looks, acts and talks like a 17/18 year old and she's supposed to be 13 but looks, acts and talks like a 9/10 year old. Like if they had looked their actual ages, and this wasn't a comedy, it might have worked and felt less gross. But because they come off as a far bigger age gap and an adult with an actual child and comments about "it's not illegal" are made for laughs it's just awkward and gross.
I think a big part of the uncomfy factor comes from how adamant she had to be about "no" just to get him to stop. She was pushing him, trying to tell him she was uncomfortable, and he never stopped until she literally ran away from him. That coupled by the fact he acts/looks sooo much older and she acts/looks soooo much younger, it gave MAJOR 'sexual predator' vibes.
@@ashlynnkae8446
Ye the fact she is uncomfortable and then he's like "don't tell anyone" when she runs away gives it a super uncomfortable aspect
In the original none of the main cast were actually nonces
Jay's story line makes me think the developers watched "cuties" and thought it was a comedic masterpiece. Nonce jokes are funny, scenes with older boys kissing prepubescent girls is gross
This came out before “cuties”
This was 8 years earlier
The guy playing Jay looks like that girl that went on x factor with her sister then punched her. Ablisa was their group name
ahh i thought this too!
“Good” is a bit too generous. I’d say slightly closer to mediocre than the rest

I remember feeling this episode stood out above the rest. Almost felt like the show was becoming its own thing
Does Neil not have any plot lines in the US inbetweeners
Neil has as many plot lines as he does thought processes
Tbf he didn't have many plot lines in the UK version
@@seankelly8432 yes he did I think
He worked at the theme park
He got a girl behind asda
And his 18th birthday
@@Eugene_Black Yeah but even then the episodes were mainly about the other boys. Like the camping episode was about Simon moving to Swansea, and Neils 18th birthday was about Will breaking up with Kerry
The kissing genuinely made my skin crawl. It baffles me that the same country that won't allow "wsnkers" to be said on tv will allow actual predatory behaviour to be shown and played off like it's nothing.
How was that a predatory behaviour?

It's weird but Tod is literally a male version of Megan Parker from Drake and Josh.
Thank you for going through all of this torture for us, you are a martyr for the cause.

Love your continuing enthusiasm towards the awesome show. 8^)

But does Todd say "your such a sad"
haha. what a lad! Cracking choice of song for the intro. it's coming home!
This is when Lumbardi realises that there is a second disc, with 11 extra episodes
What’s strangest about US Inbetweeners is how they took the basic premiss of the UK series but completely discarded the style. Which was the defining attribute.
The UK version was the antithesis of the brightly lit, canned laughter track, primary colours and squeaky clean delivery of what UK sitcoms has devolved into with shows like 2.4 Children and 2 Pints of Lager and a Packer if Crisps.
This could be seen in the delivery of the script and the simplistic contrivances of the plot lines. One liners and bland character archetypes.
The UK show aimed for as much realism as possible. Conversations were conversational and not carefully timed to make time for the canned laughter and characters were flawed and lacked confidence or social skills and like life, it was all a bit messy.
The US version rejected the concept of social realism from the get go and it’s mostly down to the direction. Brightly lit, formal camera work and extremely clear voice tracks. Very little ambient noise.
The whole thing, apart from recycling some of the jokes is really a business as usual American sitcom.
The unique identity of the UK version was not considered palettable to a US audience. They were really only interested in attaining the largest audience possible and they were not prepared to take risks.
It’s cowardly though. Shows like Girls and Kerb Your Enthusiasm proved that there is a large audience for more a realistic depiction of life.
But the US version just played it all for laughs and only for laughs so it feels very empty.
The laughs compliment the tragedy and that is at the core of the appeal.
The Will character is a terrible actor though and far too handsome. Which is weird because the other characters aren’t handsome at all.
Also, on what planet is dating a 12 year old even remotely ok?
Absolutely epic
Can you NOT boost the volume randomly!?! Twice I nearly passed away
In all seriousness though, it’s coming home
I’m sure somebody else in the comments said it but the fire plot line is a playoff on the flower plot line in “home alone” uk episode
The it's coming home caught me off guard come on england !
I was starting to think they got something right for a change, but then that period scene... That's irredeemable. There's no coming back from that.
They just screwing over my boy jay here
It must be really annoying knowing that something so painful is making you famous. I'm weirdly addicted to watching these videos now as well...
Thanks for watching the whole series so we didn't have to. Sub earned.
Woop woop.... episode 9! My Monday has just improved
To me the fire plot line seemed a little like the flower vandalism thing. Like will having to find out who did it. Only he finds it out immediately. Also why does every love interest in this show look the same
Jay the molestor is back
Football's coming home!⚽ 🏴 Brilliant tune!
No
A bit underwhelming this episode. You didn't even conclude Will's storyline. Felt rushed.
Yeah I feel like he rushed this out
Yeah that plotline with Jay and his underage gf was so friggin weird.
The closest thing I can think of is the one where SImon gets tugged at the disco, but the boys are 17~18 in the series, and the girl who fancied Simon was in the year below, 16, which is the age of consent in the UK.
This contrasts with the US one where both are under-age. Weirder by the fact the characters are still all played by mid 20s (mostly) models. So weird.
I do like that the actor who played Todd went on to be in paper towns which is quite a step up
It’s coming home 🤩🏴

I am surprised that you have never noticed the fact that Jay looks like one of the Students from the Trip to Warwick episode.. its uncanny i tell thee
Denied? DENIEEEEEEED
He starting to like the show, by the last episode he gonna be selling merchandise 😆
The fact that it the girl having her first period that caused jay to stop makes it way creepier as it sounds more like she getting to old now. Yea remember pedophilia is pre-pubescent
So yeah um don’t know what else to say about that

I suppose the REALLY loud bits that blow your eardrums out, are kinda like Easter eggs at this point...
I was talking about this with my friends.
The thing is, Inbetweeners USA COULD hypothetically work and I think this episode is proof of that. The plot was decent enough and wasn’t just awful jokes rehashed from the original.
The problem this show faces is the original inbetweeners is TOO British. British to American can work. Take The Office. Many people argue the American version is better. The original wasn’t so British humour based that the jokes couldn’t land to another audience.
But the inbetweeners is a different story. There’s too many jokes and plots that literally cannot work for American audiences due to humour differences, social differences etc. It just literally cannot work.
What WOULD have worked is if they took the premise of the Inbetweeners. Four very common teenagers that you could expect to see in every school. Somewhat troubled kids that everyone can relate to. Sprinkled in a few Inbetweeners style humour, and gave the show and the characters a different name, and it could work.
The actors aren’t awful. Hell, some of the actors are really good. It’s just the material they’ve been given has such an iconic start that it’s impossible to top it.
It’s like if I decided I wanted to make the next Harry Potter sequel, kept the same names, kept the series name, but made the school set in Norway and instead of wizards, they’re elves, and Dumbledore is actually a 12ft lesbian mermaid lady.
Sure, hypothetically that could work. But it strays so far from the original that fans of the original are going to hate it. If I gave it a new name, with new characters, and instead took elements from the original, it’s less likely to be universally hated.
TLDR: The Inbetweeners USA could have hypothetically worked if they just mimicked elements from the original and reworked it instead of completely knocking off such a British staple and butchered it because British humour doesn’t translate to American humour well.
Superbad is a good American Inbetweeners
American pie and Superbad in particular are very good examples. But the uk inbetweeners being so good, meant the us inbetweeners would struggle
I'd argue that 6Teen is a good example of how a similar premise could work in North America. It's an animated show that stars six teenagers working a mall. The original can be quite valgur for a kid's show, having a whole "ass man" joke, talking about periods, the whole boob bowl joke, having a plotline featuring them going clubbing, etc. While some of the things are outdated, much like Inbetweeners, it still holds up today for the most part. Like you said, they just needed to take the lose premise and make the show its own thing. Adapting it wholesale won't work since British and American humour are totally different.

@Leon Russell hello follower
I feel that if the writers of the US Inbetweeners stuck to writing episodes like No. 9, then the US Inbetweeners might have been able to redeem itself and actually be humorous, like the US Office. The first two seasons of the US Office sucked (it turns out American writers are terrible at creating convincing cringe comedy), but it later became hilarious as the writers were allowed to stretch their legs, giving it its own identity.
This one was alright because it was *unique to the US audience*
Dont worry, normal service will be resumed for the next episode...
