While its not my favorite controller, I find that the dual sense is best to use for docked mode since the touch pad can easily be assigned to a mouse with left click in case you need to navigate any menues or settings on first boot to then enable controllers for older games. When I play in docked mode, the last thing I want to do is constantly get up to go make changes on the deck. It’s also great for making changes within an emulator which doesn’t have menu access in game mode without a mouse and keyboard.
It's my favorite controller this generation but I've not used it much with the Deck so far. Although I don't think I realized you could use the touch pad as an easy left-click so that's cool to know and a great tip!
I'm playing the last weeks with Steam Deck OLED connected with a UGreen Dock to my LG monitor and all are working just fine!! Especially for external controller i'm using XBox One controller via Bluetooth and i never had any problem with any game to recognize this controller as my main controller!! And i have tried a lot of games... 😉😊
Great tps for those who own a Steam Deck, this morning I found out that Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake got released for PS5 and I decided to order them without thinking twice (I can finally play and record them in full 4K), next month I will get Assassin's Creed: Shadows and hopefully Tomb Raider: IV-VI Collection both for PS5 but I can wait because I have a lot of Games waiting to play/record.
Thanks man and dude, I didn't even SEE that! Might have to grab those myself! LoL I was thinking of you the other day when I was working on the 'Games for February' video and made sure to feature it since I knew you'd appreciate it :p
@@YourPlayer2 Good morning, Josh, I was super happy when I found out that those Games came out for PS5, luckily I still have some money left from December so I could treat myself. :) I will wait a few more weeks and then I might get Alan Wake 2 as well. Wishing you a great day. :)
LoL wow, nice setup! Never experimented with one myself but at least a few of my retro TH-camr friends swear by it :) As a relative scrub I'll have to stick with filters for now :p
Bonus tip: Always be prepared for nothing to work in docked mode until you update the dock firmware, especially if it's your first time using it & you expect it to be plug-and-play. 💯
Ooooh, that's an oversight on my part. Like I mentioned updating your firmware in that Steam Deck maintenance video from a few weeks back but definitely should've mentioned it here!
It was plug and play for me. But I never used docked mode with steamOS. I installed Windows after the first month of owning my steam deck. I bought my LCD model back in October
I agree with the other comment about the dual sense, that's what I use primarily (with an 8BitDo as a backup for when the dualsense dies, inevitably mid game ugh lol). I figured out the reorder controller thing, too, huge help! I looked for a pattern (i.e. quit a game first or turn off the controller, etc.) but its still hit and miss, sometimes it still doesn't work unless you reorder the controllers. One other thing regarding controller support, I have found that if a game just doesn't work with an external controller, if you set the properties/compatibility to Proton Experimental on whatever game it is, the controller works. I run into this so frequently that by default when I install a new game I just always flip to Proton Experimental - maybe its just me! Minor gripe about ProtonDB - I play mainly indie titles, I have found that 99% of the time if I am having a problem with a game ProtonDB is no help, it seems to be geared more toward popular games or the larger titles. Great video, the deck has SO many options and features, I really enjoy videos that dig into all the different capabilities that it has, especially the not so obvious stuff.
LoL well I'm both sorry AND glad that I'm not the only one who ran into the reorder issue! Yeah, I mean ProtonDB is community driven so lesser-known titles don't get NEARLY the same love unfortunately. And I'm glad you liked it as I'm hoping to do more tutorials, how-tos, and SLIGHTLY deeper dives this year into the technical side of things :)
Hi great video and thank you for the suggestions! What were the two games you mentioned at the start of the video? I know one was Sleeping Dogs, but was the name of the other? I’m looking for a great fps game to play on my deck (I’ve tried Ready or not, which I love but I’ve struggled to optimize controls for it). Thank you!
I think I hooked up my steam deck to my uhd work monitor with usb c just to see if it would work (kind of but not really, it was a low resolution with huge borders) and that's about as far as I ever got to docking my deck 😂 I prefer to play handheld anyway or otherwise I'll use my vastly more powerful desktop pc. Been playing more Halo MCC on the deck, which is a great experience overall. Going through them in chronological order, loved Reach, CE (though I'm biased there as it's the only Halo I played when it was new on the OG Xbox) and 2... 3 was a bit meh and very annoying at the end... Now working on ODST which so far seems to be a lot more fun and it was a nice surprise to see so many Firefly cast members playing in it! Feels like Halo Firefly edition 😂 Looked at my steam replay the other day too which motivated me to play more different games again (which I do best on the steam deck too). And it's less stressful too, I get way more relaxed just lounging on the couch with my steam deck than sitting at my pc playing poe2 or some other game that makes me get too competitive. Actually that might be a cool video even just you looking at your steam replay and going through what you played a lot in the past year. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the holiday season and wish you a great 2025 :) (first order of business, get through the most depressing two months of the year, imho anyway 😅)
Oh that's unfortunate but yeah, I prefer handheld as well for the most part. I mean when I'm able of course :p I really liked re-visiting Halo 3 ODST myself! Always thought that one was a bit underrated and loved how spooky it was. Hehehe I looked at mine as well and it pointed out that I was in the top players who played lots of games, but in the lowest for actual time played against any one title I'm sure! I did indeed and hope you have a great 2025 as well, fin! LoL hang in there- Ohio winter's been brutal the past couple of days 😂
Great video. I use my steam deck 90% in portable mode and 10% docked. I did just get a Tomtoc bag for the SD. What do you think about the new steam os powered Legion go coming out in May?
Thanks, dude! As for the new Steam OS powered Legion I'm DEFINITELY interested, but moreso in Steam OS itself and either buying an off-the-shelf consolized living room PC when it becomes more common or maybe building a mini PC just for that purpose! The latter of which I was already considering but didn't really need another Windows box necessarily, so this might end up being a VERY chocolate/peanut butter situation! :D
Love it! I keep my valve dock on my main gaming entertainment console 24/7. I travel for work once every month or two, and I’ve found that the Genki Covert dock 2.0 is absolutely awesome for hotel rooms and travel in general
I actually prefer docked mode but my kids love watching TV the second I sit down to play for some reason. I actually broke a uGreen dock by not paying enough attention to strain relief (and of course it was that top angled USB you can't replace). Super stoked that the new uGreen dock is more modular, has more USB-C power out and that cable I borked is now just a removable angled USB-C cable and not permanently attached to the dock. Using an 8bitdo based on your recommendation in a past video (couldn't be happier with it) and wish I'd seen this about strain relief earlier! Magnificent tips and presentation as always mate. Have a spectacular week!
Bwahaha figures that's exactly when they'd want to watch :p Oh I'm not familiar with uGreen so I'll have to look that up! If you have a link to your model I'd love to see it and maybe I can feature it in an upcoming accessories video or something :) Glad the 8bitdo still serves you well at least and appreciate the kind words, as always, wil- You have a great week too, homie! :D

Great video. Most TH-camrs only tease with clickbait. This is clear, strait to the point and helpfull. Thank you.
Thanks a bunch, rv! I try to keep it pretty chill and to-the-point as much as I'm able :)
